Violence, conflict and bloodshed are used on an enormous scale throughout the poems that I have studied. Today I’m going to explore the theme of conflict in the poems: “A mother in a refugee camp” by Chinua Achebe, “War photographer “by Carol Ann Duffy and “Prayer before birth “by Louis MacNeice. I personally believe the poets succeed remarkably well in portraying how conflict plays an important role in informing the people about the society and how the poet illustrates conflict throughout the poems that affect this society, also I’m going to introduce “Disabled” by Wilfred Owen, “Out, out” Robert Frost and “Refugee Blues” by W.H Auden and describe how conflict plays an important role in these poems as well.

The poem ‘War Photographer’ written by Carol Ann Duffy examines the life of a war photographer who takes pictures of conflict for British newspapers. This quote signifies the corrupt humans similar to the” rust- colour” that shows the flaws within us humans, both poets expose these flaws to reduce, root out and raze this stain of indignity. Interestingly the poet also uses sophisticated techniques like juxtaposition throughout the poem. Louis MacNeice creates a horrifying image of the inhumane effect of war. This is particularly effective because of the juxtaposition of these horrors with the innocence of the unborn child. In doing this, it raises the point that this should not make it more horrific – everyone was an innocent, unborn child
