Conflict and Theme Essay In pretty much all stories, conflict is the biggest part of them. Without conflict there would be no plot and the story would most likely not be work reading. There are different types of conflicts which are internal and external. These conflicts play a big part in the story and can be influenced or influence other elements of the story, while also being effected by the setting is one of the elements that this can happen to. This is very present in Richard Connell’s, “The Most Dangerous Game.” The setting is one of the elements that this can happen to. Internal Conflict is a conflict that takes place inside of a characters mind. This is pretty common as almost everyone has to argue with themselves to see if something is worth it. In, “The Most Dangerous Game,” the main character, Rainsford, has many internal conflicts that he faces because he has to decide what to do when he is getting chased by the general. (Connell)The internal conflicts that he faces makes it to where you are about to see they hard decisions he has to make in order to save his life. This helps reveal the theme because it gives Rainsford the feeling of being chased like an animal and makes him appreciate the lives of animals. …show more content…

External conflict is conflict that happens outside of the characters mind. This is also relatively common as other character’s actions influence others. In, “The Most Dangerous Game,” this shows throughout the entire story. It basically has a sequence of external conflicts from being shipwrecked and stuck on an island, to being in a house with a crazy murderer, to then being chased by that crazy murderer. (Connell) This then caused a domino effect of conflicts which spirals down to the theme of Rainsford appreciating the lives of wild animals, because without any of these conflicts, he would never realize
