As a social work undergraduate, we have several queries regarding why it is so important to follow the NASW code of Ethics and values that relate to human diversity, with regard for the worth and dignity of all persons, as applied to a specific case where we are delivering social work. It is very essential to recognize the five core values of social work, service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, and integrity and competence on our occupation of social work. Today, we have chosen two areas and situations of how we are going to deal with our biases and our challenges while working as social workers, by employing the NASW code of Ethics and values that relate to human diversity, with regard for the worth and dignity of all persons.

When the phrase “mental illness” is spoken, the immediate thought that pops into the individual’s mind is the extremes such as Schizophrenia, or Bipolar Disorder. However, the majority of mental disorders fall into the spectrum of quite common disorders such as Depression, Anxiety, or Obsessive Compulsion Disorder (OCD). Scenario number one: I believe that in this scenario there is a moral obligation to act. I believe that as a police officer, even off duty, you know the laws and shouldn’t allow this to happen if you know it is wrong. All the ethic codes are putting the child's safety first, unfortunately, there have been cases when the rights of students with exceptionalities have been violated in numerous ways. Thank God for the different codes that protect and the students as well as their families. Parents need all the support they can get, and knowing that their children are been taken care of, respected, protected and educated gives them peace of mind.
