Conflicts in IT Industry due to ethical issues There is a thin line between right and wrong in the way technology is used today. There are many ethical issues arising by using technology in the business of IT. These issues can be classified as personal issues and organizational level issues. Privacy, private information security, web tracking etc are some of the personal issues and protecting intellectual property like software rights is organisational level issue. These issues tend to create conflicts in the IT industry which are intern responsible for down fall of an IT Organization. The different ways to minimise these issues are to be reviewed and have to utilize them optimally. Introduction: New trends in IT are extremely advancing …show more content…
36). Privacy is a crucial right because it is a crucial quality for different rights like personal autonomy, by acknowledging a person’s privacy is respecting an individual as a sovereign person. The need to respect to a person’s privacy is important especially in the technology rich fields like IT organisations, different technological paths evolved today to resolve the issues with personal privacy. The personal information like browsing data, sensitive private data like bio, salary details, passwords, confidential work etc. can be accessed with powerful data mining tools making a concern for personal info. Privacy is a relative concept: relative to the organisation in this case, hence protecting an individual’s privacy is broad and unclear. Different organisations have different views regarding the amount of individual’s information to disclose for example an organization may share its employees personal information with a third party for a back ground review. Private information types: Private information can be classified into different categories like personal communication, information about one’s health, personal info, etc. There will be many forms of communication will happen in day to day work life in IT company like telephonic conversations, web communicators (chats), e-mails, webinars etc. These forms of communication may be monitored and recorded by the employer (IT firms in this case)
For my research paper the topic I have chosen to write about is privacy as a constitutional right. With this topic, I was asked is there really an inherent right to privacy and what does the right entail? I was also asked to analyze privacy in the work place and how an organization’s policy should conform to the law and best ethical practices. Privacy can be a trick subject since the laws vary and some are still being developed today. As the workplace and world in general continue to evolve, so do policies and laws. I will answer all these questions in the following paragraphs.
The advances made in information technologies are causing an increasing number of ethical problems. The power used to processing computers doubles about every two years. Organizations are more dependent than ever before on their information systems. The Ethical problems arising from the appropriate use of customer information, personal privacy, and the protection of intellectual property have lead to increased laws to regulate the way data is collected. There are also privacy issues involved collecting, storing, and disseminating information about individuals.
“Computer ethics is a branch of applied ethics that considers ethical issues raised or significantly amplified by computer technology.” Moor (2006). Its been stated in several works that computers give people power, which means people have the choice to use this wisely and ethically. While society has benefited from this “power”, there are still ethical concerns that need attention such as privacy of data, security, reliability of data, intellectual property, and accessibility. Mark D. Bowles, Deborah G. Johnson, and H. Lodewyckx all have given their points of view on this wide spread topic, that all seem to have a common ground when it comes to the basic concerns of ethics in computing.
Over the last several years, the issue of IT ethics has been increasingly brought to the forefront. This is because of transformations occurring through rapid advancements and the way various applications are utilized. To fully understand what is taking place requires conducting an annotated bibliography on the subject and the impact it is having on these standards. These findings will highlight the overall scope of the challenges and the long term effects they are having on stakeholders.
What are privacy rights? “Privacy helps the person to be autonomous, unique, and original. People power of sharing or hiding the information about themselves (Hari, M., 2011).” In my opinion privacy rights are the rights an individual has that they do not want anyone else to know. It may be the right to be left alone and not bothered, to make personal decisions of one’s own individual matters, or just not be an open book. It is to be yourself without judgment of others and it is to protect people’s interest especially in aspects of things that maybe embarrassing if someone were to find out like cross dressing or being gay. To me privacy is important because there are things not everyone may want found out even I have things in my closet.
Telecommunication law content issues which raise privacy concerns are generally presumed to concern the protection of privacy information, and conversation between individuals. In case of telecommunication system call detail records, caller?s information, internet conversation details and many more are retained by government and commercial organisation for different legal and business purpose. When the data is retained by government then the data is stored from the telephone calls, email, visited website and, even, from data retention. In case of commercial data retention, the retention is usually occur on transaction, websites visited, users visited place and many more. However, this has been argued that to provide better service from telecommunication sector to the community, the private information is required to be monitor and collect. Sometimes, privacy is violated by security agencies due to the legitimate excuse. On the other hand, privacy is also violated by collecting and retaining personal information by business organisation for the business purpose and, in many cases, the users are not informed what is happening with them. However, in the essay, the discussion will be focused on the definition of privacy, protection of information privacy and data protection, privacy threat in Canada and United states, privacy violated by virtual networking system, privacy hampered by Radio Frequency
First, computer technology raises ethical concerns because it has a constantly changing nature and so there are no specific sets of moral codes (Berzai 1). Dealing with ethical dilemmas related to computer technology is difficult because there is no overarching positive ethical force in the American business community. There are four main areas of computer ethics: computer crime, responsibility for computer failure, protection of computer property and privacy of companies and customers. (Berzai 2). The area of computer ethics, which is under most debate today, is computer crime and privacy. For example, unauthorized computer entry jeopardizes a company’s trade secrets and data. An employee who wants to sell such secrets to a competitor can commit such a crime and this crime involves jeopardizing company’s privacy. An individual’s privacy can be jeopardized in the crime of hacking. Hacking deals with the ethical dilemma of who actually owns the information and who should have access to it. Sometimes universities require students to hack into the university’s system to prove
With the improvement of technology continuously growing every day, privacy has become one of the most important issues in today’s society. Privacy refers to one’s right to control how your personal information is collected and used by financial institutions. It is the financial institution’s responsibility to provide security to your personal information. Security refers to the obligation of the company that collects and uses your information to ensure that your information is safe against unauthorized uses (Privacy Rights Clearinghouse).
As technology advances, so do the monitoring possibilities in the workplace; as a result these possibilities will raise the privacy issue in the workplace. Nowadays, employers can monitor and track many aspects of their employees ' jobs, especially on telephones, computer terminals, through electronic and voice mail, and when employees are using the

For this coursework, I will be discussing what ethical issues are and how a business is affected by them. I will then move on to discussing 3 main ethical issues within the business world and how it could be resolved. The 3 main issues which I’ll be talking about are fair trade and child labour, harassment at work place and equal pay. I believe these 3 issues can relate to businesses in every sector and not just one area.
Ethical issues regarding the use of information technology are changing rapidly in our advancing modern society. Historically information technology had seen limited applications and impacts on society in general. More recently, however, this has been changing as information technology has become a part of nearly every business, and personal activity. I will discuss how Information technology has brought about significant societal ethical changes. Users of technology in society and business today need to be increasingly aware of the need for the ethical use of technology. Information technology (IT) users need a code of ethics developed, so that they can navigate through the ethical issues they confront while using information technology.
Ethics refer to your personal standards of right and wrong. Ethics do not change as you move from one society to the next. IT managers have quite a number of ethical issues confronting them each time they are running their departments. These issues are becoming challenging each day as technology becomes more and more advanced. There are more questions asked than answered as managers face more and more daunting challenges in information technology. There are five main categories of particular interest to technology. Ethical issues on the usage of IT and the challenges that managers face generally refer to privacy and intellectual property. Each has an important impact on the way managers and other business professionals act or react. Attention has to be given to these issues. Internet ethical issues have a direct connection with the business world
As I enrolled in ITPS subject I have learnt and grown from this subjects that I thought possible. As stated in the class the goal of learning this subject is to expose the legal responsibility and professional behavior by studying different case studies and present IT related articles which represent ethical, social and/or legal issues, situation and dilemmas. In doing this, tutorials and lectures provided framework of ethical thinking. This essay will reflect on how exploration of this subject framework has helped my insight into the practical application of ethic knowledge. As discussed in first lecture I learnt how information technology rise, code of ethics and code of conduct, effects of Information Technology on society and legal requisites by attending lectures and tutorials.
Ethics in information communication technology discipline is quite new, mainly because the major advancement in this system is fairly new as well, where it’s constantly changing and developing. The discipline now also occupied a huge rule in our daily lives, where we are almost always in contact with technology from the moment we wake up till the moment we sleep.
