Have you read any books where two different characters face problems, but prevail in their own cunning and special way? Conner Bailey from The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer and Alex Stowe from The UnWanteds by Lisa McMann are both interesting characters who have magical powers, and goals that mean a lot to them. Both of these characters show leadership. One reason that both of these characters show leadership is that they are both brave. Both of these characters also show courage. One reason that both of these characters show leadership is that they are both brave. Conner is brave when him and his sister Alex come across a troll bridge. Alex chooses to solve the riddle that the troll gives her. Conner however, chooses the more risky decision and swims across the river to keep leading them even though there could be even more dangerous things in there than the troll. I think Conner does this because …show more content…
One example that Conner Bailey shows courage is that when he and Alex are trapped in Troll and Goblin Territory, he made his way through all of the sleeping troll and goblin guards (with the big risk of getting caught) to the area where the Troll king and Goblin king’s thrones are to steal their shared crown. I think Conner does this partially because he and his sister Alex are after the items of the Wishing Spell, and that crown is one of the items. He also did this because this was their only chance to get home. One example that Alex Stowe shows courage is when he has to fight the deadly gorillas on the Island of Graves. These gorillas are no ordinary gorillas; they have fangs, are carnivorous, and are about 8 feet tall. I think that the main reason that he does this is because he needs to save Kaylee without her getting badly hurt. He also does this because he doesn’t want Sky to get hurt either. Showing courage is another reason that both Conner Bailey and Alex Stowe show
Courage is important because if you’re not courageous you will not explore new things, get new experiences. An example of courage happens in the first couple of pages when Jasper and Charlie go out to explore late at night into the forest. If they haven’t gone out there they would’ve never found the body
Assertion :The Odyssey and The Princess Bride, courage is knowing the odds are against you and moving forward anyway. Evidence: The princess Bride courage quote– “IT WAS NOT, in point of fact, her Westley that was causing the commotion out front. Westley was doing all he could to simply walk straight down the incline toward the main gate without help. Ahead of him, Inigo struggled with the heavy wheelbarrow.
One good example of courage is in Homer's epic poem, “The Odyssey,” when Odysseus enters the Cyclops’ cave. In the epic poem Odysseus and his men enter the Cyclops cave and the text states “We climbed, then, briskly to the cave. But Cyclops had gone afield..." (Homer 157-158). This example demonstrates that Odysseus enters a Cyclops cave and is not fearful. Odysseus enters the cave because he sees treasure and wants to get it for him and his crew. Odysseus chooses to enter the cave even though he knew the cave was the Cyclops home and this demonstrates courage, and this is why the trait should be encouraged. Another good example of courage that sticks out is Newton Knight, who chooses to help slaves even though he lives in the south during the Civil War. In the Biography.com Editors’s article, “Newton Knight,” Knight chooses to stop fighting for the Confederate Army and goes back to his hometown to help slaves, as the text states “They saw themselves as defending the residents of Jones County from the Confederacy” (Biography.com Editors 1). Therefore, this example demonstrates that Knight chooses to fight against the Confederate Army even though he lives in Mississippi. It takes a lot of courage to go up against the Confederate Army even though he lived in the south and almost everyone was against him. It should
The book New Found Land was written by Allan Wolf in 2004, Allan used striking poetic features and fictional characters to recreate Lewis and Clark 's expedition across the continent. There mission, find the fabled Northwest passage to the pacific ocean, this group of courageous Americans may never come back. Through his use of Historical and fictional characters, Wolf was able to showcase the different viewpoints of Lewis and Clark 's crew. One of the key characters that led the expedition to success was Meriwether Lewis. I chose to look up his last name due to the fact that his last name is the more well known than his first name. Lewis is the english form of the french name Louis, this form was also derived from the german name Ludwig
One example was on the battlefield. Whenever he fought in wars, he always showed courage. He never cowered away, but instead he kept fighting. In the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814, he almost got killed, but that didn’t take his courage away (TSHA 1). He fought through the injuries which got the attention of General Andrew Jackson (TSHA 1). General Andrew Jackson saw that Sam Houston never gave up even when he was severely injured (TSHA 1). Soon after the battle finished, they became friends because of his courage (TSHA 1).
"I learned that courage was not the absence fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear"- Nelson Mandela. In the book, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes by Chris Crutcher, Sarah Brynes and Eric Calhoune had been friends for years. With them both being an outcast in their society, their bond is unbreakable. Sarah Byrnes has an abusive dad who she hides a big secret with. Sarah Byrnes being the strongest and most toughest person he has ever met, he has to uncover her secret that has her keeping quite in a hospital. In this book, many characters shows this courage. I'm going to be giving you three examples of how three different characters showed this courage.
An example where courage is shown is when Atticus explains to Jem and Scout that the dying Mrs. Dubose displayed “real courage” and his children are puzzled because Mrs. Dubose said awful statements about Atticus. On page 116, Atticus says, “‘I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand.” This is an example of courage because Atticus is explaining to his children that courage isn’t always physically shown and can be shown in other ways than this. He is saying that Mrs. Dubose displayed courage just by not wanting to die a morphine addict and accomplishing this. This act shows “real courage” because Mrs. Dubose depended on the morphine for so long and died the way she wanted to die. Even though Mrs. Dubose showed a different type of courage then a man with a gun in his hand, she still displayed immense courage and strength before she died, according to
Courage is the ability to do something in the face of pain, grief or fear. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus serves as an example of true courage to the town when he shoots the sick dog Tim Johnson, defends Tom Robinson in his legal troubles and allows Mr. Ewell spit in his face.
Throughout history, there have been countless times whenre individuals have courageously fought for change and societal justice. For instance, Gandhi helped India gain their independence, even though the circumstances were extremely risky for him, and could have led to his arrest or even death. However, he continued to persevere through it all, and was able to accomplish great things for his country. Another example is Malala Yousafzai, who promoted the education of girls in her country. Despite the clear threat of the Taliban, she continued to fight hard for her cause. Courage can be defined in many different ways, such as the ability to persevere and accomplish something in a frightening or risky situation. Examples of courage can be seen all around the world. Without courageous people, society would not have been able to improve. Being courageous is difficult, and requires an abundance of dedication and perseverance. It also includes remaining strong, despite the challenges that may occur along the way.
Courage is a trait that has been possessed by a lot of leaders in history, from presidential leaders to civil right leaders, to even athletic coaches, courage is used in every leadership position and is a very important trait when wanting to become a leader. Courage takes a lot of self-work you must be fully committed to your values and what you believe in before you go out and get a career like Job. Frederick Douglas escaped slavery and later became a main leader of the anti-slavery movement through all his published writings. Courageous leaders also make time for their peers and their employees because courageous leaders not only believe in themselves but believe in the team that works for them. Courage is also shown through sports form coaches to players. They are required to sacrifice some of their beliefs so their team can be one unit and work as one. They show courage day in and down out, standing up for what they believe in and their team which speaks volumes within an organization. Courageous leaders seem to be the most effective type of leaders because those types of leaders relate to you or has a common interest. These leaders preach what they believe and stick to it even through tough times when it calls for them to step outside their box.
Courage or the act of being courageous is something that can depict if a person is being weak. This act ties into the classic tale when identifying the strength it took Sundiata to walk. Sundiata was at an age where other young boys were gathering objects for their mothers and he simply could not, due to the fact that he was unable to walk. However, “In a great effort he straightened up and was on his feet at one go, but the great bar of iron was twisted and had taken the form of a bow.” (Page 21) A boy who once couldn't walk was now walking. He who once had to depend on his mother can now be the one his mother depends on. Thus, “ When Sogolon saw her son standing she stood dumb for a moment, then suddenly she sang these words of thanks to god who had given her son the use of his legs”. (Page 21) Sogolon was so discouraged to the point where the sight of her son’s slow development became an embarrassment. She soon became joyful of the courage
Jackie Robinson demonstrated this character trait when he started to play major league baseball and endure racial threats from fans and teammates. For example, according to the text “Hero” “When he was summoned by history, he risked his safety and sanity to give history the last full measure of his strength, nerve, and perseverance.” (Scott) This shows courage because he had to take the racial threats and harmful words and not fight back. Knowing something bad could happen. This made Jackie Robinson a successful civil rights advocate because he showed what people of color could do without
Why is the work of Adam Smith considered so crucial in the development of economic thought?
Courage is crucial to be able to overcome obstacles and help others. Courage is a big theme in The Outsiders. For example, Ponyboy showed a lot of courage when he decided to fight in the rumble. He wasn’t in good shape as he had lost weight and was very tense. However, he fought in the rumble regardless to show his gang that he
For instance, the passage states, “The next day I arrived at school twenty minutes early and did what needed to be done.” In other words, this shows Ava is courageous because even though the coach and the boys are rude to her, she is sticking up for herself, and telling the teachers what is going on. This is very courageous because the boys could come back at her. Along with this, another way Ava is courageous is when she talks to Lindsay about the track team. This shows courage because since the boys were mean to her, and she hadn’t talked to anyone about track, it could have been scary to talk about the track team and confide in someone. But Ava talked about it anyhow, and that shows a lot of courage. In addition, the passage also states that the boys were asking if Ava was dead, and then when she replied, they said,”I thought we’d get lucky.” This represents the claim because she had to not cry and show courage because otherwise, they would then be mean to her even more. In conclusion, the theme of courage shows up a lot throughout the story Don’t Give Up The
