Producing guidelines, standards and codes such as Building Code of Australia, Green Star ratings and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) ratings for new building and refurbishment projects is a good method to encourage, identify and implement sustainability in construction. In the past, sustainable construction meant traditional approaches to construction was more complex and extensive and less profits in projects to adopt sustainability products and processes. Sustainable construction however should be seen although complex, incorporates aspects of economic efficiency, environmental performance and social responsibility with the aim to meet the needs of today without compromising future’s needs (Lafarge Holcim Foundation

On Wednesday, at approximately 8:24AM, I, Officer Larry Thomas (206), responded to the Central Building Room 413-4A , in reference to a code blue medical call.
Target was created in 1962 after its founder George Draper Dayton passed away. Dayton who was a banker and real estate envisioned a great potential in business in Minneapolis and started Dayton’s Dry Food in 1902 as a partner considered the fourth largest department store in Minneapolis, Minn. After a year Dayton becomes sole proprietorship of the store and becomes the first president of newly Dayton Dry Goods Company. Company continues expanding changing its name once again in 1911 to better reflect its good and services. Company continues to suffer changes throughout the years opening its first foundation in 1918 at a cost of 1 million dollars to promote mankind welfare. After his George Draper Dayton’s death in 1938 his son and
Today’s Designers, Architects and Constructors have a duty of care to strive to produce energy efficient and energy saving buildings. Where possible the sustainability of resources / materials and techniques must be a primary concern in the decision making process.
The residential building sector is one of the major energy consumers in North America. It accounts for 17% of energy used in Canada, resulting in 70 megatons (Mt) of annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) 2008). According to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan 2010a), 65% of residential energy consumption is attributed to space heating by means of the primary fuel types, natural gas and electricity (Statistics Canada 2007).
This case involves an unknown female Black, gaining entry to the underground parking structure at 277 W. Green St. (Catania Apartments), and stealing the victim’s black Cannondale Mountain Bicycle. The bicycle is valued at $400.00.
This paper addresses the issue and key considerations behind designing with daylight as a primary factor from the early stages of design in the architecture. Furthermore, the paper touches on the subject of some of the most efficient ways to tackle the implementation of daylight strategies that are thoughtful in terms of project specifics and achieve visual comfort and save on energy costs. As specialists in the building industry, construction architects, together with architects, engineers, and other professionals, face difficulties in implementing efficient daylighting strategies that consider both proper illumination and much-needed shading, that causes discomfort glare and overheating. The main objective of the paper is to observe and
This portfolio will consist of thirty photographs showing common exterior features of general housing in urban Bristol. Each photo will be paired with an in-depth explanation of the background and practical use of these particular construction techniques. This will then be accompanied by an address and a map to allow the reader to have a better understanding of where each terminology was photographed. To ensure maximum picture quality, all photographs will be taken with a Canon 70D digital camera. Adobe Photoshop CS6 will be used to enhance pictures if necessary. Effective time management is essential to this projects success as subjects need to be located and photographed in suitable weather conditions.
When it comes to commercial construction in King of Prussia, you want experience and expertise on your side. Whether your looking to remodel your current business, or are about to build from the ground up, Mazzi Contractors has the experience to get the job done right, in budget, and on time.
This is an analysis potentially applied to the Alfred P. Murrah building; the Murrah Building was relatively a low-risk building. In honesty, the building was not notable, it was not a landmark, nor was it of critical importance. But, the use of standoff distance should still be incorporated. The installation of bollards is relatively low cost. The benefits of standoff distance are not only that of protecting but that of a more public setting. It removes buildings from the street-fronts, opening the sidewalk for more potential public spaces (The National Capital Urban Design and Security Plan). While this concept is not applicable to all locations, such as densely packed New York City, it is certainly applicable to the more sparsely spaced Oklahoma city. The empty standoff distance is not the only usable space that would be able to benefit the public, bollards have even been designed to incorporate built-in benches. This adds daily
The evacuation procedures are an essential part in designing an occupancy safely, in order to account for human behaviors during a fire. They have to brief, efficient, and organized to not “overload” and confuse the occupants, who could be unaware of the layout of the building and therefore require guidance. Cornerstone Grille and Loft is a popular 2nd floor sports bar in College Park off of Route 1 (Baltimore Avenue), which was selected because of its inadequate fire safety for the large occupant load it has frequently.
The inefficient homes in the UK have catastrophic effects on global warming. The UK needs to become more energy efficient as at the moment it emits a large amount of greenhouse gases which risk dangerous climate change. The retrofitting of the brick three storey terraced town house is necessary in order to comply with the legislations set out by parliament in the UK Climate Change Act (2008) or if the house falls under the private rented sector it must comply with the Energy Act 2011.
1. Design: Using a blank Excel spreadsheet, follow Step 1 in the Conjoint Tutorial and develop a Study Design Template (ME>XL==>Conjoint==>Create Study Design Template) for Forte, using the attributes and levels from Exhibit 1. Next, follow Step 2 in the Tutorial, Create a data collection instrument, selecting "Ratings" method and "1" for the number of respondents (you). When you are done, check to be sure that your sheet looks like the "Forte Hotel Data (Conjoint, 1 Ratings)" data set in My Marketing Engineering. Then, briefly summarize the advantages and limitations of describing products as bundles of attribute options.
Green buildings could become one of the main factors to preserve our rapidly decaying environment. There is no easy way to define a green building, but a green building is essentially a structure that amplifies the positives and mitigates the negatives throughout the entire life cycle of the building (Kriss, 2014). There are many definitions for a green building, but all of them include the planning, designing, constructing, and operating of the building while taking into huge considerations of the energy use, water use, indoor air environment, materials used and the effect it has on the site the green building is being built on. The first green buildings dates back to as far as the 1970’s, when solar panels went from experiments to reality. Green buildings were not as popular as they are today due to their extremely high pricing. With technology rapidly growing, solar panels are becoming cheaper and cheaper, making the transition to creating green buildings more affordable. This is the primary reason for the increased growth of green buildings today. A modern company that is paving the way to the growth of green buildings named LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, focuses primarily on new and effective ideas for environmentally friendly buildings projects. With more than 60,000 commercial projects worldwide and 1.7 million square feet being certified every day, LEED is one of the leading groups for promoting green buildings. LEED has popularized the entire
