The movie "Contagion" showcases a skilled director [Steven Soderbergh], a strong plot, and a cast list that is out of this world. Included in that list are Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Kate Winslet. The first thirty minutes my attention was hooked. Around the middle section, my enthusiasm dropped. By the end, I hoped the film had gone in a different direction than it did. However, my hopeful thinking didn't keep this film from being the well scripted, well-made, well-acted movie that it is. But, it could've been better.
The film starts with Gwyneth Paltrow coming home from a trip to Bangkok. She is sick. Her nose is a rosy red. She sneezes into her hand before grabbing her debit card and

Cotillard travels to Bangkok in search of the cause, Winslet travels to Minneapolis (Gwyneth Paltrow's hometown) to conduct tests and get a look at what is happening, and Ehle, Gould, and Martin start working on the cure. Fishburne is a general leader of the doctors who is forced to make some important decisions, and Jude Law tries to capitalize on the situation by persuading people that a certain drug, which he has invested in, cures this new disease.
The first thirty minutes, in which we discover and discuss with the doctors what this disease is and how it's affecting humanity is intriguing, involving, and fascinating. But the film, rather than investing in its characters, gets a little sporadic in its storytelling. There are just too many characters with too many "mini plots" for us to really explore all of them. There are certain characters that weren't in the film enough, such as Marion Cotillard, who is absent from the bulk of the second act. as well as characters that were, perhaps, made more important than entirely necessary, such as Jude Law, who takes up much screen time for a subplot that only supplies sparks of interest. The film eventually becomes very hopeful, showing humanity's ability to overcome any obstacles that may come in our way, but I wished the third act was as dark as the first. Still hopeful, but a lot
Overall I found the movie to be quite interesting and exciting at times but a bit slow in others. The story itself was very clear to me and didn’t cause any confusion. It had a good flow also, just as you were on the verge of falling into boredom with a scene they switched it up on you to keep you
The film opens on modern-day Louisiana and tells the story of a circle of friends on the wedding day of Shelby Eatenton (Julia Roberts) daughter of M'lynn Eatenton (Sally Field). Shelby suffers from type one diabetes.
In the movie “The Black Death” Osmund and the soldiers set out to find a necromancer that is supposedly raising plague victims from the dead. Although witchcraft may not have been against the law at that time, many people believed that they needed to earn God’s forgiveness and the only way to do that would be to get rid of everyone who was causing problems. According to the article “Black Death”, “Some people believed that the way to do this was to purge their communities of heretics and other troublemakers.” Ulric and his soldiers were sent, by the Bishop, to a remote village to find the necromancer and the other people in that village because the necromancer was producing problems. This gives the viewer of the movie a better look into what was taking place in England during the Black Death. The plot of the movie, while being a hypothetical scenario, is accurate considering the fact that it is something that could have happened.
The first scene in the movie I thought was powerful was the scene where kids with HIV were forced to leave school due to the fear of the parents and the ignorance they had back then about not understanding how HIV were transmitted. Dwayne Maori a 12 year old hemophiliac infected with HIV from Tennessee was forced to quit school due to the fear of other parents and the ignorance that they had about AIDS. In this particular scene the parents were protesting outside the school with big poster boards, when Dwayne Maori left in the car there was a parent shouting out loud that he is trying to kill everyone but the parent is not going to let him kill her baby. Others were shot or got their houses burnt to the ground. I think that this scene is important and powerful because this scene tells us how one person’s word can lead to so many fears in the society (when president Reagan re-enforces that AIDS can spread by casual contact). This scene also showed us how scared people were about this new virus. At the same time, this scene tells us that HIV doesn’t only affect the person infected by it, it affects their families as well. This scene is effective because it allows us to learn that when these new
The 1996 film of The Crucible is a historical drama inspired by the Salem witchcraft trials. The film has won a multitude of cinematic achievements and continuously blows audience members away with the accuracy of the historical events and portrayal of the characters by the actors and actresses. The profound work of Arthur Miller is also expressed within the written play of The Crucible. However, the film did the best job of portraying characters that were both historically accurate and believable to an audience member. One main character from The Crucible that is both historically accurate and extremely believable in the film is Abigail Williams. Winona Ryder, the actress of Abigail Williams, did an impeccable job portraying her character and became widely known for her work through several achievements and film reviews. The recognition that she and the rest of the cast received due to the characterization in this cinematic production is what made the film do the best job of portraying characters as historically accurate and believable to an audience member instead of the written play. Although the written play describes the actions and thoughts of the characters very precisely, the film did the best job of portraying characters as historically accurate and believable to an audience member through the achievements and film reviews received from actors and actresses such as Winona Ryder, the recognition the cast as a whole earned, and the actions and emotions the actors and
In his 2017 horror film Get Out, Jordan Peele not only makes his director debut, but delivers a particularly insightful view into the state of racial affairs in modern America. The stories narrative follows an African American man named Chris, who goes to visit his white girlfriend's parents at their rural home only to uncover a horrifying plot in which the girlfriend and her parents are in fact racist and have been abducting black people and using their bodies in medical experiments involving the transfer of consciousness. On a surface level, the plot of the film has the ability to come across as quite simplistic in scope, an obvious labeling of privileged American whites as racist; however, a deeper analysis reveals careful consideration to
This film got it right because I am sure that many people can relate to this film. Many us have probably gone
The beginning of the film opens up to the main characters struggling to make their rent. The rest of

The actors are believable in their roles. Steven Martin who acts as George Banks is outstanding in his role, he acts very well, so the audience knows his feelings, and feels sorry for him. The stars are not the main reason for me to see the film, but the title is.
The film was engaging and thoroughly executed. The actors suited their roles, and played well. The theme in the film was educational and intriguing. Apart from some small flaws, the film was enjoyable. The circumstances around the film, as poor oxygen in the classroom and darkness, made it a little tiresome to watch, and therefore, the film seemed stretched out. In reflection, that impression was misplaced.
Contagion is a movie that was released in 2011 which is based on fear, greed, heroism and greed and involves a lot of sick people. This movie is very scary and provides lessons in the field of virology and epidemiology. The movie is set at ever-changing challenges as well as threats of microbial origin that lead to the origin of casualties who vary from few individuals to lots and lots of millions of people. It has been described as a global pandemic as it affected many people all over the world. The outbreak of the disease has been depicted from the rise, vaccination and the prevention methods of a new disease.
Comment: I found this film very tough going- it is undoubtedly a well made film and has some clever and quirky moments. However I lost interest around halfway through the film and could not engage with the film and its clunky style. A lighter touch would have made a huge difference to the viewing experience. Perhaps as an artistic statement it deserves more than three stars but as a movie going experience it was only a little bit better than average.
