The Hunger Games I chose to the modern mythology known as The Hunger Games a novel written by Suzanne Collins and later adapted into a feature film. The novel was actually part of a trilogy The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The story begins by introducing you to our main character Katniss Everdeen who lives in a world run by the Capitol where President Snow resides and has enforced a form of martial law on all 13 districts. Every year the Capitol hosts their annual Hunger Games which is a form of entertainment for the Capitol. Out of every district two tributes, one boy and one girl will be picked to participate in the Hunger Games which is a battle to the death. Whichever tribute manages to survive till the end will be rewarded by getting to stay in the capitol and their district will be given more food and supplies. The reason Katniss becomes a part of the games is because her little sister prim is chosen during the reaping to be the tribute so Katniss hearing her sisters name volunteers as tribute to save her sisters life but she tries to win the games for her district and to provide for them. The only problem is she finds it hard to murder the other tributes because they are all so young and she doesn’t see why she must kill them for the Capitols entertainment.
Can you imagine being put in an arena, where you fight to the death while others watch for enjoyment? This is the situation the main character of the Hunger Games is being put in. Katniss Everdeen volunteered for her sister to be put into the game known as the Hunger Games. This game is quite brutal as it is where people watch children ages 12-18 fight to the death. This girl faces many hardships and challenges throughout the book. These include the reapings, the actual games, and the leader of her area, President Snow. All of these things challenged Katniss throughout her experience of competing in the annual Hunger Games.
The novel The Hunger Games is written by author Suzannne Collins. Collins created a dystopian novel that has similarities to the current society we live in and could be interpreted to be what the future holds. Throughout the book characteristics of a dystopia society are revealed. From districts starving, living in poverty, being killed for trying to escape to somewhere better and being forced to do things they do not want to do. The beginning of the book on page three, starts with the main character Katniss Everdeen assuming her sister left their bed for their mothers’ because of nightmares caused by the reaping. The reaping is when each district chooses a boy and girl to take place in the Hunger Games. The Hunger games is a sadistic way the capital reminds their citizens they are in control. At the age of twelve children names are entered into calling up until they are
The Hunger Games, the movie, was adapted from the popular young adult novel by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games is sometimes described as another cliche love story for which the young adult genre is infamous. Despite appearances, The Hunger Games illustrates a complex and creative dystopian world with a much deeper underlying message, including topics such as, politics, history, and celebrity worship. The setting appears to be a futuristic version of America. This future America is very classist, and the tyrannical government is sure to keep the classes divided by heavily oppressing the working class. The working class is divided into twelve districts, which used to be thirteen districts until the thirteenth district was annihilated as a result of its uprising. In response to the thirteenth district’s resistance, the President created a game called “The Hunger Games” in an effort to instill obedience in the remaining twelve districts. Through the course of the movie, we learn that “The Hunger Games” are not only a mechanism to force obedience on the working class, but also to serve as entertainment for the elite society who live in the Capitol. The Games require 24 randomly selected children from the working class districts to fight to the death in an elaborately staged battle, all of which is filmed and broadcasted to the entire nation, working class and elite alike. Thesis: The Hunger Games, the movie, has a hauntingly feasible storyline and clear references to real
The Hunger Games, A book series by Suzanne Collins, differs in few ways from Veronica Roth’s Divergent. The Hunger Games lead role, Katniss Everdeen, lives in a world of few choices. The government controls the lives of everybody in the 12 districts. When Katniss’ little sister, Primrose, is chosen to fight in the annual Hunger Games, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She is forced to fight and forced to kill, all to survive. This competition results in the people fearing not only their government, but also their futures. Katniss becomes a symbol of rebellion against the
“We had to save you because you're the Mockingjay, Katniss, says Plutarch. While you live, the revolution lives” (Collins). Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games is a complex character who epitomizes the archetype of a hero, however, she also shatters the mold by rebelling against the capital and endangering her whole family. She starts out as a hero to her family, especially her sister, and then becomes the symbol of strength to everyone. Katniss sacrifices herself by volunteering to join the Hunger Games in place of her sister, it is a game of survival where a boy and a girl from each district are forced to fight the other members of other districts to the death. By going out of her ordinary world and preparing to join a game where her life could be taken, she fits right into the archetype of a hero. Her bow and arrow, the weapon that only she can wield, will be the only things to help her survive. Despite these heroic qualities, Katniss makes an erroneous decision and blunder mistakes that shows the reader the flip side of Katniss.
The Hunger Games by Susan Collins is a slap in the face for society, essentially a wakeup call. Katniss Everdeen is a sixteen year old girl that volunteers as tribute for Prim, her little sister and is the focus of The Hunger Games. The book is set in Panem a dystopian society with twelve districts and an over ruling power, the Capitol. The Capitol has created a punishment for a rebellion that occurs 74 years earlier, called the reaping. Every year there is a reaping, the reaping requires each of the twelve districts to gather and watch as two of their children are picked to compete in the most dangerous game; the hunger games. Each child sent is in a competition for their life, one will survive. After the reaping the tributes are sent to the Capitol where they are introduced to the public. The tributes are treated like celebrities, interview and forced to play their best angle to the media. See any similarities between 21st century America and the world Katniss lives in? Panem and
‘The Hunger Games’ written by Suzanne Collins (2008) describes a narrative where there are 12 districts that came from the ruins of North America that is called Panem, 3 of the districts are favoured by the Capitol, the rest of the districts are really poor. Each year a male and female ranging from 12 to 18 must go to the Capitol’s arena where they fight to the death reality television show called ‘The Hunger Games’. The text describes a teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in the dystopic district (District 12). Throughout the novel she makes friends and enemies. Despite being portrayed as a reality television event in Panem, there is mostly nothing realistic about the hunger games. In the novel the arena is altered and prepared with
The book, The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, is about a girl in a dystopian futuristic society in the country of Panem who finds herself in a morbid competition to fight to the end. Katniss, the girl, is part of District 12, the poorest part of this fictional country, and to feed her family, she must break the law and go to the woods to hunt for food. When her mother becomes too depressed to function, she becomes the primary caretaker of her mother and 12-year-old sister, Primrose. When Primrose is picked to be a contestant in the games, Katniss steps in for her, knowing her sister will not survive. It is considered an honor to be chosen if you live in Districts 1 and 2, where contestants are properly trained, but those in District 12 are untrained, aware it is a morally wrong game and usually die in the first day.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is arguably one of the most well-known novels of the 21st century. The story follows a girl named Katniss Everdeen who volunteers to participate in the Hunger Games on behalf of her sister. Throughout the games, Katniss, together with her partner Peeta, tries to survive an arena where everyone fights to survive. The two characters meet several of their fellow competitors throughout the games, who may or may not help them win. Although it appears to be a novel about a dystopian future where the government hosts an event where people try to kill each other, the novel is also about defiance against bad forces that may influence our lives.
The Capitol forces a boy and a girl from each district to compete in the Hunger Games as punishment for the uprising many years before. These Tributes must fight to the death until one person remains who is the victor. The Games are a way to show citizens in the capitol who is really in charge. Katniss becomes a tribute and fights in the games. There is only supposed to one victor but Katniss goes against the Capitol and two people win the games.
The Hunger Games, a film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s best seller, was released in March 2012 and became the third-highest grossing opening weekend in U.S. history. The story is about a dystopian world whose hero becomes a 16-year-old white female, Katniss Everdeen. The setting of the story is an imaginary country named “Panem” located in North America’s ruins. The country is composed of 12 districts that are dictated by the Capitol. Historically, the districts formed rebellions against the Capitol, but were defeated. From then on, the Capitol maintained its hold on the 12 districts by forcing each to select a boy and a girl “tribute” to compete in a nationally televised event called the Hunger Games. Every citizen in Panem must watch as the tributes, ages 12 to 18, fight to the death until one remains. Katniss Everdeen, the female protagonist, is one of the two tributes of District 12, along with Peeta Mellark. Katniss is a skilled hunter with sharp instincts, and fought her way to survive the arena of the virtual reality show, establishing several impressions of her strong persona and identity in the process.
The book I read is Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. Catching Fire is the second book of the series. The book's setting takes place in the future. In the first book, you are introduced to the main character, Katniss Everdeen. Katniss is a 16-year old girl who lives with her sister Prim, who was named after a primrose, and her mother. There is a Capitol, who's in charge of all 12 districts, Katniss lives in district 12. Every year in each district they have a reaping, where one girl and one boy from a district are chosen to compete in the annual Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are where 24 tributes, two from each district, compete against each other for survival. The last person alive wins the games and gets a new house in Victor's village.
In the novel, The Hunger Games, the setting takes place in the country of Panem; within it lay 12 districts. The protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, along with her mother and sister live in District 12, the poorest of them all. Since the death of her father, Katniss became the family provider, doing anything necessary for their well-being. The author begins the book on ‘reaping’ day in preparation for the annual Hunger Games. The ‘Hunger Games’ consist of a male and female tribute from each district, which are randomly or voluntarily chosen to fight to the death.
It has been 74 years that The Hunger Games have began for every year. It requires total 24 tributes from 12 districts, one boy and one girl, between the ages of 12 to 18 by choosing randomly in a ballot. All tributes have to kill each other until one is left and the tribute will be announced winner. Katniss Everdeen is a 16-year-old girl from District 12, she volunteers herself after her sister Primrose Everdeen is selected. Katniss and another male tributes Peeta are represented District 12 to participate the hunger game. Katniss was struggling during the game, because she has to win the game but she does not want to kill anyone. Whereas, after she witnessed many merciless murders, she begins to understand that she has to kill them if she wants to be survival and win the games. Undoubtedly, Katniss and Peeta finally survived from the games, but the gamemaker says only one person can be the winner. Katniss thinks that they could kill each other at the same time in order to threat the gamemaker to change their minds. Fortunately, before they eat the poisonous berries, the gamemaker stop and announce them are the
