1.0 Introduction The phenomenon of continuing professional education has been globally recognized by all professionals as a primary method to top up basic professional education regularly. In the 21st century, the scientific discoveries, technological advances and increasing demands from the society have influenced the need for continuing education for professionals. So to keep practice relevant and future orientated, professionals need to keep updated with currents trends and issues so they don’t practice obsolete practices that have been emphasized as ineffectiveness. 2.0 Definition about Continuing Education Based on Wikipedia (2010)., continuing education refers to any type of post-secondary education, used to either get more certifications or as credits required to keep up a license. Almost s anybody can take continuing education credits for personal or professional enrichment likes fitness trainers, nurses and safety instructors are examples of professionals who fall into the second group . Continuing education is aimed exclusively to adults who already have a college or university degree. According to Rene Jackson, nursing education refers to formal learning and training in the science of nursing. This includes the functions and duties in the physical care of patients return to health and a combination of different disciplines that both accelerates the patient’s return to health and helps maintain it. In Nursing continuing education, that nurse must have Diploma in Nursing and can continue to further studies in post basic in special area, degree, master and PhD. Continuing education can take the forms of workshops, seminars, home study or online courses, conferences or hands-on training. In Malaysia, the registered nurses from the largest group of health care personal, providing health care services to the county’s population both in the public and private sectors.
