It was a baseball game day in the heat of July. I can remember warming up on the field for about five minutes and I was already sweating like a dog, I was drenched from head to toe full of sweat. During warm ups all I could think about was drink cold water and just jumping into the lake to cool off after the game. Little did I know that this scorching summer day was going to spark my baseball career for the rest of the season and for the rest of my life. Before every baseball game my dad would either text my mom or call me and would always ask me to hit a homerun for him, and everytime I would tell him I will try my best.
Now, this game wasn’t any ordinary game, none of the actual coaches were there to coach us so instead we had a couple of

We still have a chance to hit being down only 1 run. So after getting out of the bottom of the sixth inning we got to go in and hit and it was our last inning to change this whole game around. The inning started with the the top of the order. The first batter struck out, second batter grounded out, and the third batter stepped up to the plate and watched five pitches go by which made the count go 3-2, which if he watched a pitch go by and the umpire called it a strike the game would be over. In this case I think he had faith in God and just swung and it happened to make contact with the ball, I figured that it was out of the park but it was only a triple and I believe to this day that had lifted the spirits of my whole team and I. Then I was up to bat and all that was going through my mind was how could I ever one up that hit, to keep my team alive in this game? So now it was my turn to step up to the plate, so I get set up in the box and I make the sign of the cross on home plate, I make the sign of the cross because I believe that it is my talisman. So as I am stepping into the box, I take a deep breath and at that very moment I started to hear my heartbeat and it seemed to have slowed down. I saw the first pitch go low and into the dirt, the second one was high and outside. As the third pitch leaves the pitcher's hand I sat back and saw it go right down the …show more content…
So what are you thinking of that you want for dinner, remember that it’s gonna be a total surprise for my father.”
So I decided to choose Little Caesar's pizza because it just felt like the perfect food to end the end a perfect day of baseball. I told my mom to make sure that she didn’t tell my dad that I actually hit a homerun because I wanted to tell him myself and show him the ball myself. So when we got home with the pizza my dad asked why we got pizza and I told him because I hit a homerun and he said “No f***ing way!!”
I told him that I indeed did and gave him the ball and he just hugged me and almost started crying because he wasn’t there to experience his son hit a homerun. Then he got mad because the time I hit a homerun was the time he couldn’t make it to my game in time, so I told him not to worry because I had a feeling that I would be hitting more home runs in my future and all he said to me is that I better hit one so he can see it happen with his own eyes and after that he wouldn’t care if I hit another one or not he just wanted to see one for
It was a hot summer day in Hammond, Louisiana and I was pouring down sweat like I had just jumped in a pool. The game was just about to begin, me and my team was eagle eyeing the bomb squad. It was so quiet that you could hear your own sweat hitting the bench. The umpire broke up everyone’s concentration by saying, “play ball”! The defense had ran out on the field and I started rolling ground balls from 2nd to short-stop to third base. They had all made good throws back to me and then I threw the ball into the dug-out because the game had begun.
I must have seen too many innings during my first game with my father, because i could not stop talking about how good the game was. During the first practice with my own baseball team, I could vividly recall what happened in the previous day. After my father had informed me that he would take me to the baseball game. This was going to be a better opportunity for my case because I was going to learn more about baseball. Although I wasn't sure he was going to take me to the real game unlike other days when he used to stop me from
It was the last games of the baseball season. We had are worse pitcher pitching for our team. And they had an ok pitcher pitching. We got to the semi finals and our coach was going nuts. I was in the locker room getting ready for the game and my teammates Austin and Tevan were right next to me also getting ready they were one of the best players on the team.
I felt ready; I felt prepared for this. I see the pitcher wind up to pitch to me. I see the pitch leave his hand and then I swing with all my life's practice at the sport of baseball; I see the ball way out in the outfield. I crushed it. I realized that the farthest ball I hit all season was left handed. I was shocked, I couldn't believe it. I then run down the line grinning and I hear my whole dugout laughing. But as I thought I hit a home run, the outfielder was right under the ball and catches it. I didn't care, I took my helmet off my head and started putting my fists in the air. The umpire then told me to put it back on so I did, but I couldn't believe
The day was perfect to play softball, the bright sun was giving off the heat. I was sitting in the the car moving like crazy as if I was trapped and and was trying to escape. I had the worst butterflies feeling like I was going to throw up my breakfast all over my moms car floor. We pulled in the parking lot in a flash and all you could hear was me breathing heavily. My mom hit the button to the door so i could get out of the car. I got out and the fresh air was really hot. I got very sweaty like we just finished with the state championship game but I believe i was just too nervous.
I still remember the day it all happened. It was my freshman year of high school and baseball was right around the corner. Playing varsity baseball as a freshman was almost impossible to do. As coach called me into his office, the anxiety set in. I knew the varsity team lacked a starting pitcher but i never would have thought i would have the opportunity to get pulled up to play that year.
I remember a conversation I had with Dad one evening as the both of us and Mom sat down to dinner.
I was about six years old, in Cancun, Mexico for Spring Break in the Month of March. My family and I were staying at a huge resort filled with many fun things to do.We had been waiting for this family trip for months; I was excited to get out of the cold Minnesota weather and into tropical heat. We were in our hotel room getting ready for dinner with my two sisters, my mom and dad. I felt the heat all over my body, like I had been standing directly in front of the sun, So I went to open the hotel window to feel the cool breeze and to see the ocean view. As I walked to open the window my mom said “Morgan be careful, the wind is so strong if you open the hotel door, close the window because the door will slam shut; but I only thought about myself and I responded with a sassy comment, “Okay Mom.”
I was seven years old and it was in the middle of the summer and I almost got run over by a car. The day was going really good just like any other summer day; I got up, got dressed, ate breakfast, and went outside to play. For breakfast that day we had pancakes that tasted like they were made by angels. Before Chris and I went outside our mom yelled, “Be back by lunch or I’m going to send your dad out there to get you!”
It is hard to believe that something bad could happen during a drive-thru stop at a Mexican restaurant at 2 a.m., but alas, trouble seems to always find Jameis Winston.
July 30, the day I was leaving for California. My mom, my brother, my grandma, and I all leaving for the big trip. After a seven hour plane ride, we arrived. My mother was in line to pick up our rental car, the wait which felt like a million years. Slouching on top of all the suitcases and imaging all my teammates laying out in the sun, swimming and having fun in the water made me feel bitter and antsy. We finally got our car and we were on our way to the hotel. It was another hour car ride, eventually we got to the beach. From there on out my day could not have gotten better. The water was as cold as Antarctica and yet it felt so good against my sweaty skin. At about 5 o’clock my coach decided we would hold practice. The field was in a park it looked like something out of the 1920s Great Depression, homeless people everywhere, but we made best with what we have gained. I had not had anything to eat since 6 o’clock that morning, but being the strong fighter I am, I tried to fight the pain of hunger off and finish through practice and get some food afterwards. Turns out my body could only handle so much, I was standing up painfully fielding the balls hit at
In the past two decades, professional sports have skyrocketed to the top of the world’s cultural hierarchy. In an age where online streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu are leeching viewers from conventional television networks, professional sports have witnessed almost unprecedented growth. According to a 2011 study by A.T. Kearney, the sports industry is growing faster than overall GDP in developed countries such as America (Collington, Sultan, and Santander,“The Sports Market”), and the 2015 Super Bowl was the most watched television broadcast in American history (Pallotta, “Super Bowl XLIX posts the largest audience in TV history”). As the amount of money and attention poured into this booming industry grows, the influence of its
Like a slug, I inched my way to his office. When I opened the door I was astonished. Coach and all the seniors were sitting there. They told me to sit down, so I did. Coach and the seniors took turns telling me why they chose me as captain and all this other stuff. They told me how great of a player I was and the ending of the game was not my fault and it did not define me as a player. They kept telling me how I was the best player to come through the school and how I was on my way to do great things. They said I just had a bad at bat at a bad
One of the earliest memories I have of my father is when he would take me to the park and we would play baseball. My father was eager to teach me everything he knew about the game, and I was eager to learn. He took it easy on me at first, allowing me to overcome my fear of being hit by the ball. Each time we went back to the park he would throw the ball a little harder. It was not long
The day I was told I must distance myself from my friends if I wanted to succeed at the age of 13. It was my freshman year and I was hot and sweaty from a long 2 hours of uncomfortable softball conditioning with the upperclassmen, who seemed at the time to be very intimidating. I was walking with the varsity softball coach (I was so new and naive I didn't even know his name) towards the end of the field where my mom was waiting to pick me up. The fact that he was talking to me made me so nervous, it hadn't even been a mere daydream to be spoken to by the varsity coach. He told me that in order to succeed I needed to go a separate way from where my closest friends were headed. He proceeded to tell me that he saw a greater potential in me than
