In my opinion, my first week at my coop placement at Deverett Law Offices was a good week. On Monday, I was really nervous because it was my first day and I didn’t know what to expect, but I was also very excited because I knew that this placement would be a great learning experience for me. On my first day, I arrived about 10 minutes early because I wanted to make sure that I wasn't late. However, the doors to the law office was locked and I didn't know what to do. This made me feel extremely anxious and I felt like I was the “new kid on the block”. I thought that all the other employees at the law firm somehow knew how to bypass this uncomfortable situation and unlock the door. I rang the doorbell, but there was no answer. As a result, I …show more content…
During the school year, I need to efficiently manage school, a part time job, home responsibilities, many extracurricular activities, volunteering positions. My constantly packed schedule used to make me feel extremely stressed and anxious, however, I have since devised an organized system to effectively manage my time. The first step of my system is to jot down my upcoming tasks and meetings on my phone’s calendar app. Then I set reminders and checkpoint reminders to ensure that I don’t forget to complete the tasks and attend the meetings. In addition, I also have a to-do list on my phone that helps me keep track of what I need to get done. Because I do deal with a substantial amount of stress during the school year, I have settled on a few activities that have helped me manage stress. To alleviate stress, I love to exercise. Jumping rope or going on a run for just 15 minutes significantly reduces any stress or anxiety that I may be feeling. In addition, I also play guitar and piano to manage my stress, When I play music, all my worries just disappear and I get lost in the music. For the most part, my coop placement is not stressful at all. However, sometimes, I become slightly stressed out when my supervisor doesn’t give me any tasks and tells me to sit at the receptionist desk. I understand that she won’t always have work to assign to me, but I feel as though I am not doing anything productive and that I am not learning anything. This stresses me out because I fear that I won’t anything to write about in future coop assignments. There are also the occasional high-stress situations at my placement, such as when Mr. Deverett asked me to quickly make photocopies of a client’s documents, but he didn’t tell me exactly what format and order he wanted the documents to be in or how to operate copier machine. This task made me anxious because I felt like I had to
Stressful schedule: take a break, do something for yourself to help relax, listen to music adjust your schedule to allow for meals, call a friend
When I first started working for the school in August, I never met any of the people who would be working at the school along with me. The first day I arrived to work I learned that the new team I was going to be a part of at ICEF Inglewood Elementary had 96% of new staff. During this time I realized the team was in the forming stage, we were all getting acquainted and oriented with each other. The team leaders aided in this stage by providing a breakfast followed by games for the whole staff. During the breakfast, making conversation I felt the feeling of uncertainty I was not sure if I would like it or fit in. After breakfast, we played games that were used as ice breakers. The icebreakers we played began to make me feel comfortable and realize I had a lot in
My first week of work was basic I learned how to make “Welcome calls”. A welcome call is just a way to confirm that the client is aware that will be coming out to haul away their miscellaneous items. During the welcome calls we also let customers know that our truck team members will call them thirty minutes prior to their appointment window to reconfirm and they can process payment on site with the truck team using either cash or credit card. During this first week of training I met the managers of
It not that often Nelly slacks off and doesn’t finish her work on time. She said, “You have to be very organized and know how to prioritize her work. I can carry over her work.” Nelly is very committed to her job and that one thing her boss loves about her. Sometime when she has a stressful day of work, she just want to go home and be alone, or not have to the daily chores and cooking. Even talking to others seems too stressful after a long day from working. She would do meditation like yoga at her house when she stress from
I am a supply specialist, so I work alongside my supply sergeant (my boss). We both have to complete inventories all of the time, while having guys come in wanting certain things. We also have to worry about ordering, for the upcoming drills, things we need for training. Most drills there is always something that does not go right. In inventories, if we are missing something, to a guy coming in and saying he broke a cable, for example, and so on. It is constant moving and running around. It can become very challenging at times. We also have to worry about ordering food for the cooks and serve the food, and are responsible for setting up and taking down training events. This means we are the first ones to wake up for the day and the last ones to go to bed. Which lack of sleep does not help either. This can result in work overload, because at times I feel that I have to work long and hard at too many tasks in order to accomplish them. This can result in feeling more stressed. (Straub, 2017, p. 91). I become burned out as well. Burnout is “a job-related state of physical and psychological exhaustion.” (Straub, 2017, p.
On July 8, 2015 I walk into Krogers like I would any other day but this day I was an employee. Lost for words around the unfamiliar faces that I would now see five days a week had me a little nervous. I walk up to someone and ask them “where is Ally?” and when I say her name I see her shoot her head full of blonde poofy hair from over the registers as she grabs a pop from the cooler by U-scan and I hear the cooler doors slam. The super cute boy who is tall, tan and muscular with short light brown hair with chubby cheeks and a bright white smile that I seen at orientation walks up and says he is being trained by Ally too and I feel slight butterflies in my stomach. As we walk back into the back dock we run into Cody with dark brown hair and tan skin and the cute boy goes off with him to be trained and I was disappointed. I knew Ally before I got hired on at Krogers through a mutual friend so conversation came easy and work so far wasn’t that bad. Now that I have seen every part of Krogers that I haven’t seen before it’s time to learn the hard stuff. We go out on carts and I am begging to go in cause little do I know that it is a 30 minute shift and there is no 5 minutes and go in. Then Ally goes on break and I’m all alone to learn how to beg by myself, which isn’t hard at all but when you’re thrown out there it’s scary.
Stress is a main aspect of the human condition, because everyone goes through a daily amount of stress, whether the problems come from school, family, even physical activities. The first time I felt a load of stress was earlier this year in fact, on a Thursday in September. I had many assignments due that day, and had a football game for band later as well. There was a reading check for “WHAP”, and the second I had seen the vocab and multiple choice questions my stomach started churning. There was sweat running down my face.... The notes I had took were horrendous, the thought of my French IP Practices the next period did not help either. Even though the day had finished and I did not have to stress over school anymore,
Throughout my co-op work terms, I was able to gain valuable skills that will be of use to your team. At Island Health Telehealth, I was able to calculate and report the Self Care of Heart Failure Index (SCHFI) statistics with no previous knowledge on how this data was calculated and then presented my findings to my co-workers. Being able to quickly adapt to changing conditions was vital in all of my previous positions. At Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, things were always changing as the Clinical and Systems Transformation (CST) project went through various phases. The ability to prioritize tasks and complete them in a timely manner was a well-received trait. Throughout my schooling career I learned about various testing methods including,
My physical wellness continued to increase, my stress management as well and also my time management increased. Similar to my first year in the program as entering my second year my physical wellness increased. I’ve been trying to live a healthy life and having a better diet, I thank Colonel Oetjen for this and how he gave me a lecture in my first year after he saw me drinking my regular 1.5 litter soda, and explained how sugar was bad for you and how he said “white death’. I can say my stress management has improved because of my time management skill increasing, with priorities this better I have more time and are less stressed. I adapted a new quote over that summer to help me with my time management and that is Stephen Covey quote “The Key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your
Before the summer of 2015, I made the decision to financially support my family as best as I could. My sophomore year of high school was coming to an end and the Orange County Fair was just around the corner. I applied to Juicys LLC, one of the most popular food stands at the fair, without any experience hoping I would get hired. A few days after applying, I received a phone call explaining the time and place for the orientation, I was ecstatic. The orientation room was filled with talk and laughter of high school and college students. I saw familiar faces and my nerves were eased at the sight that I was not going to be alone. My first day at Juicys LLC was a complete rush. It began with the entrance to the fair, overwhelming and crowded. When
Due to her stress and panic facet, she can practice is purchasing a planner or notebook. From here, she can create a “to-do list”. On this list, she will write down the mandatory activities first. When she completes activities, she can simply cross out the activity on her list of things to do. When she crosses out the activities, she will feel a sense of accomplishment and feel less stressed.
To help reduce stress for myself, even through I know its quite common practice for most managers I would write down a list of all my tasks and then put them in priority order according to timescales, importance and whether I could or could not delegate the task I would also consider how long they might take, having a list especially when I am feeling stressed helps me focus and ticking areas off can have a positive effect on me as the list reduces.
It’s with great interest and enthusiasm that I am applying for the BTM Coop Placement at the Ted Rogers School of Management. Being an IT student with more than a year of IT education, campus experience and community involvement having a coop placement would be a good addition for (to sharpen my IT career) my IT career. In the year of 2014, I had the opportunity to apply to some post institutions that are suitable for my interest and COOP was one of the major factor of why I considered Ryerson University as my first choice than other institutions.
It wasn’t until the end of the day that Susan pulled me aside and gave me some good advice. In her words, “People in the store are going to drive you mad. They are the pickiest, finickiest folks I’ve ever seen. But if you keep a smile on your face, keep calm and do a good job, you’ll survive the day, and we’ll get along just fine.” Even though it wasn’t exactly the greatest advice ever, it was what helped me keep my sanity the whole season I was there. I made some good friends, good money and I realized that working isn’t as easy as it seems. But all in all, it was a good job, and a good
Time management is a major way to reduce stress. If you can keep a schedule of the things you need to do and when you have to do them, this can open time for yourself. Try to focus on the important task and then do the little things. (3.) Many stress experts suggest that you begin your fight against stress by defining your values. (4.) Don’t think that everything has to be perfect. If you are a perfectionist you fuel a variety of stress-producing qualities. (4.)
