With the difficult circumstances brought upon her, it took an amazing amount of determination for her to fight for black civil rights and women’s rights in the 19th century. In a more civilized age, it’s harder to witness the courage she represented for the disadvantaged.

The video resonates with me as a first generation college graduate. It puts a smile on my face knowing that someone was willing to put their foot down on granting everyone the opportunity to gaining an education. I always tell myself and others that an education is the best gift someone could ever give themselves. While attending both GMU and NVCC I have been working close to or at full time. This has not only had the impact of me needing to balance my time between the two, but also taught me the value of finding real world applications for the knowledge that I’ve attained. While working at my current job at Trader Joe’s, I have been able to use knowledge that I’ve learned in both my general education and degree specific classes to make me a better employee and trainer. After having worked on a research paper about a plant of our own choosing (I choose apples) and how it related to humanity and what its history with us was, I was able to take both take both my new knowledge of apples and ciders and help people at work make more informed purchases. This move was definitely the best career move that I have ever made. We get to interact with customers and employees of the organization on many levels in order to ensure customer satisfaction with our billings, processing of amendments/credits in a timely manner, business unit awareness of customer disputes, or just to create a positive perception to our customers.
