The salty frigid dew and vigorous winds dampened my long black hair to cling onto my face and neck. My linty gloves were ever so slightly frozen on the black metal bars. I leaned closer and closed my eyes. The cacophonous sounds of churning water plunging into rocks grew louder and I could no longer even shout over the thunderous angel's tears. I felt each rumble and vibration growling under the bridge as if the water was demanding to be fed. When I opened my eyes the glistening fog enhanced the silky fabric that diverged and cascaded into the depths of a foamy vortex. If I stood still long enough, I may become a part of the liquid sliver vortex. This was the moment I called Cornell home.
Cornell’s traditional campus coexists with nature and furthers my ambitions to earn a Bachelor's in Biology. I became fascinated with red-tailed hawks after watching Big Red and Ezra from the Lab of Ornithology’s live webcam. I was at first curious about their social behaviors, and later their biological makeup. In addition with my father’s passing from stage four colorectal liver metastases cancer, my passion for biology and interest in the medical field blossomed.
The college of Arts and Sciences will give me the opportunity to take on new and unexpected challenges during my undergraduate career. I don’t only plan to cure a

With the resources that are available, I can find opportunities in the NanoScale Science and Technology Facility to perform in depth research on cancer cells and shadow faculty to achieve my second primary goal. I also will volunteer in Emergency Department in New York Presbyterian Hospital, where we are responsible to to provide care, and counseling to patients and their family to improve the quality of care. This increases effective communication between the Hospital and the patient and directly correlates to my first goal of increasing effective communication between patients and the

Pursuing something new is fun and exciting, especially if the pursuit positively impacts someone else. I am grateful for the opportunity to re-enter grad school, this time at the doctorate level, to realize a dream that I’ve had since the
During my career at SUNY Orange, I have grown by leaps and bounds. I have mastered my short comings, earned a 3.5 GPA, made the Dean’s list three semesters and running, earned the Peter Albergani Inspirational Scholarship, and I was selected to attend the Exploring Transfer Program at Vassar College. SUNY Orange has opened many doors for me, doors I did not even know existed. I was not sure that I wanted to attempt to get my Bachelor’s degree, seeing as just getting my Associates degree was more than I ever imagined I would accomplish. That all changed when I was given the opportunity to experience what it would be like to attempt learning at a four year institution.
Also, I find the dynamics of cancer treatment to be absolutely fascinating. I’ve experienced the physical and emotional toll it takes on an individual and their family, and I would like to make a contribution to help better understand the disease as well as better the lives of those who are diagnosed. Along with seeking acceptance into the SURF+ program, I am also in the process of looking for opportunities in which I can volunteer or work in a cancer care setting. Volunteering or working in a cancer care setting while supplementing that experience with research in the field is an extremely rare and invaluable opportunity. If I am accepted, I am almost certain that my experiences during this summer will serve as the core of any of my future endeavors. Currently, I am close to wrapping up my first year of volunteering with Honor Health at the Deer Valley Medical Center, and I can say, without any hesitation, that my desire and motivation to make health care my career has only continued to grow. Additionally, I have taken the time to learn about MIHS itself, its mission, and the services it provides to the
Ever since I have been saved, life has been a rough ride with highs and lows. My sins were many, but God is forgiving. His love has held me together. I place my faith in Almighty God; His son Jesus Christ, who has become my salvation, and the Holy One who has convicted me to live unlike any other in this world. For we are in this world, and not of this world. Our home is in heaven with His Majesty. Becoming a student at Liberty University will allow me to grow even closer to God. This enables me to enhance my spiritual gifts, passions, and skills for God’s kingdom. I want to share the gospel, which Jesus came down to become sin for us, that we are able to have a relationship with God. I am His servant; I want to serve in any way possible and
I know with my great experience, drive, and future college education from CCU that great things are not too far ahead. Another event that caused me to venture back into the college arena is the insatiable appetite I have for knowledge. When I started my college search this last time I really looked closely at what all the schools had to offer. I found CCU and I felt like my search had ended but my journey had just begun. College has always been a place I enjoyed going, it is a symbol to me that there is hope for a better tomorrow. WKU, the college I attended straight out of high school, brings back some of the best memories I have ever experience. It gave me a sense of pride when I passed my classes, it improved my social skills, and it brought me closer to my responsibilities. I believe that with an associate’s degree from CCU in Healthcare Administration new doors will open, opportunities will knock. In wrapping up this essay, it seems that there are many events in play that have influenced me not only to future my education, but to attend CCU as
Long term, my goal is to acquire a Masters in Nursing. Professionally, I aim to work as a registered Oncology nurse, combining both treatments, nutritional guidance, and holistic care for cancer patients and persons at risk for cancer. Today, I volunteer as a breast cancer mentor, sharing the battle I have faced with cancer in a positive way. Mentoring women undergoing mastectomies and cancer treatments along with their families has become significant and rewarding.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be recognized for my exceptional behavior that is displayed in everything I do. The National Honors Society can benefit me in accomplishing that goal. I enjoy learning new things daily, and applying it to my own life. I am doing extremely well in all subjects, but apart from classes, I am actively involved in school activities. For instance, I participate in cheerleading, basketball, softball, Heroes and Cool Kids and student council. The purpose of participating in these activities is to succeed. In order to succeed, I feel one must be focused, confident, responsible, creative, dedicated, and hardworking. These characteristics lead me to be successful and to dedicate myself to my academics.
My interest in the Foothill Honors Institute is significant. Over the years I have struggled academically because of personal issues going on at home. Although this past year I have improved significantly in my writing skills, and overall determination. I feel that the Honors Institute would help me grow even further, by challenging me academically to think critically and thoroughly. I also would love to be apart of a network of people who enjoy being challenged, and are connected by this ambition. This program would impact me in multiple ways, but I also feel like the program would benefit from having me in it. As a first generation college student of color I feel that I have a lot of knowledge to bring to the
When I visited Cornell’s campus, I adored the relaxing scenery and sounds of the waterfalls. But that is not the only reason I want to attend Cornell. My interest in studying at the College of Arts and Sciences rooted from my desire to explore all the possibilities – from chemistry to economics to arts – of my undergraduate career.
In a University, I seek a supportive atmosphere, diversity, and traditional values. Hampton University administers all of my essentials plus more. As I grow mentally, I become more attached to Hampton. I’ve devoted myself to Hampton University because of its dynamic intimate connection with its students and alumni. As soon I came across Hampton, I chose to focus on this particular University. Doubts are always in my mental, but I continue to make an effort.
University of Wisconsin- Madison is arguably one of the best schools in the state of Wisconsin. It offers top notch academics along with great sports teams that really make the college experience special. One of the things I’ve heard about Madison is that they offer great research opportunities for students. This is wonderful news for me because as an aspiring scientist, it would really help me build a resume for my future. Not only would it help me with the resume, it would also help me build a relationship with my professors that would be useful all throughout my life, and not just in college.
This first year of college has been a roller coaster of decisions that would change my future. One of them being the decision to dismiss my Theater major and continue on being a full time Biology Major. I believe now that I have decided what is going to make me happy and keep me interested in my education will allow me to continue on with the goals I had set for myself at the beginning of the year. The previous goals I had set for myself was to really throw myself into my field of study and find away not only to learn through context, but to learn through hands on experience helping with different professors research projects and hopefully begin my own research project as well as the next year furthers me in my studies. After, My education at Sheridan Community College I plan on transferring to a University to further my education in Wildlife Management and Conservation to fulfill my dream of becoming a Wildlife Biologist.
Picture this. A teenage high schooler going into his junior year of high school. He wants to challenge himself with the most rigorous course the school offered him that year, which meant taking a risk and starting AP Chemistry. Through this experience he not only enhanced his confidence to presue a science major, but for his love in engineering. This passion for engineering was guided through many laboratory experiences, some including, designing a hand warmer and helping the teacher with his patton involving CV+ and NaOH. Not too long ago, that person was me. These labs have brought out a side of me that I would love to share with Cornell University.
1. Though there are many aspects and elements of MIT that I am very eagerly looking forward to, one of the most exciting and enticing programs offered by the institution one that initially piqued my interest in the school and that continues to hold a high position in my interest and regard is the Energy Initiative instigated in 2006. There are so many different specific objectives, research programs, activities and personnel involved in this initiative that it is impossible for me to select one that I am most interested in; it is the Energy Initiative as a whole, from concept through implementation, that I find so compelling. The commitment that it represents to the ethical and practical use of scientific and technological development is a testament to MIT's principles and sense of place within its community, and the degree of physical attachment and direct relevance the initiative necessarily contains is refreshing in a world that often seems to be made up of increasingly detached, fragmented, and isolated elements. Again, the many elements of the Energy Initiative make it difficult to single out examples without cheapening the other aspects of the program, and with all of the schools and disciplines contributing to this initiative I would not wish to do so.
