I have been interested in Law, in particular Criminal Law, for a few years and my ambition is to be a Coroner. It is my aspiration to achieve a good understanding of the law, to provide the best service as well as the ability to give reports in a court of law. Many aspects of the law are of interest to me because it is a fundamental part of our society. I have visited the Stafford Crown Court to witness various cases, including a murder, an assault and a theft trial. Witnessing these cases has provided me with a deeper understanding of what life as a lawyer involves, and how the law is practiced. It also exposed me to wider areas of law, video links, courtroom etiquette and manner of speech, many of which I found interesting and look forward to studying further at university with mooting and debate activities. I have been in contact with a local law firm who has …show more content…
This has increased my knowledge as to what a coroner’s role would be in the process of compiling reports based on evidence, and has meant that I am extremely eager to study and pursue a career that makes use of a degree in law, a subject I will find fascinating and that will allow me to build on skills I have already learned both within college and outside. My studies at college, have improved my abilities with investigating and developing reports, analysis, findings and ensuring they have suitable content. I am a hardworking, diligent student and strive to perform to the best of my ability at all times. I have recently transferred to a new college to further my education which has shown me that I can adapt to new environments and that I can also continue to work with fellow students who are completely new to me I think this will be a good quality to have when it comes to meeting new people and working with new people in my chosen field and university
The duties of the coroner have evolved greatly over time. When first established they were referred to as “Crowners” and their duties represented a form of medieval tax gathering. Back in those times, the sheriff was in charge of collecting funds and estates, and there were many corrupt sheriffs who would embezzle money from the king. The Crowners were put in charge directly over the sheriff, and their job was to make sure that the sheriff did his job correctly. For
This caught my attention right away and hooked me in. Along with being a topic I was quite interested in (reference to last nonfiction book report), the first two sentences got me wondering. What could be told from a murdered person’s body? I already had a lot of background information from research and watching shows on mystery and homicide but this question led to a million answers. Some answers were cause of death, manner of death. time of death, weapon used, etc, all of which were related because this was sparked from the thought of a dead person and my ideas. From this, I read on to determine what could be told from an expert’s point of view.
When you see the shows such as Homicide Hunter or Killer Instincts many times my mom and I try to figure out who is the murder. Most of the time my prediction is right because of the details my mom misses, and putting together all the clues. From then on I realised I had a gift, even if it was I was just watching television show. That is what sparked my interest the criminal justice area. I have contemplated the career choices that would best fit my interest leaving me with Homicide Detective and Criminologist. While both careers deal with criminal justice they differ greatly in the type of work environment, pay, skills/education.
There will always be a fight for justice, and where there is crime there are those who must solve them. I wish to pursue a career in the criminal justice industry, mainly working as a forensic science criminalist. Those who use scientific logic and evidence found at the scene of the crime to solve the case, The heroes who don’t wear the labcoats instead of the black and blues. Heroes like these need certain skills, interests, and values that make them an official criminalist.
I am fascinated by the complexity of many legal issues and this has drawn me to consider law as a career. The documentary ‘Common’ for example opened my eyes to the controversy surrounding the law of joint enterprise. I particularly enjoy watching such documentaries and following current affairs and my interest in contemporary issues led me to take Law as one of my AS subjects. I live in a rural, agricultural area and land law is an area I would like to study further and having studied Sociology for GCSE, I am also particularly interested in family law.
This past summer, I got the best experience of my life and, that was an opportunity to work with the Honorable Judge Fanon A. Rucker, and the Summer Work Experience in Law Program in Cincinnati, OH. I say this was the best experience, because, I got to experience the legal world which was amazing to me. I always wanted to work in the legal field hints why I choose to pursue bachelors in Criminal Justice. I choose to complete my 90 hour internship to graduate from college with Honorable Judge Rucker just to experience what court life was like, and I applied to the SWEL program to experience the typical day for a lawyer and to learn more about the legal field. I also had to complete my internship with Judge Rucker before June 9th and I did not get into Cincinnati, OH until May 12th so the pressure to finish in time was on.
I specifically chose this internship experience because previously, I held internships at Flood Law, a defense law firm, and the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office and I figured this internship is a progression. I was definitely interested in exploring the different areas in law to figure out what it is that I wanted and did not want to do and this internship, by far has helped me do that. This internship experience has shaped my career ambitions, as I will further go into detail during the duration of this paper, by allowing me to be exposed to the different areas of law, which then made me decide on what I found to be interested in and areas I did not so much
From when I was ten until I was fifteen, I wanted to become a lawyer. I’ve always had impressive public speaking skills, a persuasive personality, and a knack for debate, so it seemed like the perfect fit for me. However, upon a taking a law class my sophomore year, I realized that lawyering might not be exactly what I expected it to be. As I learned about the different laws and the complexities of the court system I was
now. The only thing I can do now is pray and hope. To pray that I will
I shadowed a barrister for two weeks after which I began to understand that skills such as organisation and teamwork are as important as the detailed knowledge of the law. In addition to this, my work in Jackson's Solicitors during June 2008, gave me insight into conveyancing and commercial law. By shadowing a District Judge at the Wigan County Courts, during summer 2008, I gained an insight into the Civil Court System, and found out more about sensitive and challenging cases, such as child abuse, domestic violence, immigration and asylum. I noted how decision-making judges have to separate their emotion from their conclusion, knowing their decisions will have a very significant impact on
My interest in forensic psychology goes back into my early elementary years. As a child, my main dream was to become a profiler or a crime scene detective. I loved reading crime books and watching shows about it. I wanted to be like the people I read in those books and the people I saw on television. However, when I got to college, my mindset changed, but not for long. During my freshman year, I was a biology major wanting to be a Veterinarian. My passion at that time in my life was to help animals.
The criminal justice system has so many areas that interest me. The area that interests me the most is homicide. The reason being is because growing up I use to watch TV shows such as the first 48, Law and Order, and New York City Undercover. These TV shows showed how the criminal justice system works. Some of these shows accurately tell stories of homicide and how law enforcment officers handle the case. I have always been interested in becoming a homicide detective simply so that I can help victims and their family has justice. I feel like the death of a loved one or friend is even harder to deal with when the person who murdered them is still walking the streets. I hope to one day show people that even though the

Law is of fundamental importance to our country, as well as shaping our modern evolving society. I felt that doing a Law degree can be both satisfying and help society in the future by
My ambition has always been to work in Criminology.
