Cosmic Creation Myths Across Cultures
Purpose The purpose of this assignment is to compare and contrast the creation myth in two different cultures. Select two creation myths one from each of two different cultures. Use myths only from our course materials (these must be complete stories in our materials, not parts of stories used as examples in the primary texts). Make sure you choose myths that allow you to answer each part of the prompt.). If you use any of the Big Myths, be certain that you can explore a fuller version of the story in the course readings, so you can respond to the prompts thoroughly. Avoid using a story you are very familiar with to avoid introducing elements that are not in the version of the story in our reading. Write a response to each of the prompts, not as an essay, and number each response to correspond to the prompt. Write in complete sentences and full paragraphs so that your points in each prompt stand on their own (that is, do not assume your reader has read the assignment directions), but do not write an essay. The biggest one might have been the fact that water was mentioned in the very beginning of each myth. Each world had oceans, or waters as they were called. These waters both played a part in the creation of each world. For one, if there had been no waters in the Iroquois myth, there wouldn't have been the fish hawk, or the sea turtle, nor the muskrat. In the Aztec myth, if there hadn't been waters what would have been before time?

Evolutions of civilizations can occur because of differences in people’s religion, culture, or geographic setting of the settlement. The relationship between the world of the gods and that of men was perceived differently by the Sumerians, Egyptians, and Hebrew ancient civilizations. This is demonstrated by the way each group viewed the process of creation. They had different thoughts on the creation of their gods, the universe and of man. This essay will discuss the relationship between humans and their gods in three different ancient civilizations: Sumerian, Egyptian and Hebrew.

The creation myths/stories from around the world such as the stories of Genesis from Christianity, Prometheus from Greek myth made in the attempt to explain their unknown origin and Mary Shelley’s story of Frankenstein express cultural values from the society they originate, some of which show similarities. In addition to these cultural values these stories set up a relationship between the creator and the creation, and with it their views and obligations to one another. Furthermore, these myths establish characteristics on the nature of man, their creator and humanities condition.
