Costco Wholesale Corporation (NASDAQ:COST) is a membership wholesaler retail club that provides a diversified selection of consumer goods. Mainly under the "Costco Wholesale" name, the company is known for carrying top quality products at substantially lower prices than what is typically found at conventional wholesale or retail sources, with 100% satisfaction guaranteed in the products and membership (Costco, n.d.). Products offered at Costco includes, but not limited to, groceries, paper goods, electronics, health and beauty products, hardware, and garden and patio, jewelry and vacation packages and others. History and Financials The first Costco location was open in 1976 under the name Price Club, which was dedicated only to small-business. In 1983, the first Costco warehouse location opened in Seattle open to the general public. Throughout Costco’s main philosophy, to keep costs down and pass the savings on to their members, the company became the first retailer to reach $3B in sales in less than six years since its debut (Costco, n.d.) and in 2014, according to National Retail Federation (2014) the Company was the third largest retailer in the United States, behind Wal-Mart Store and The Kroger Co.
