Tornadoes
Did you know the costliest tornado in United States history is the Joplin tornado which caused $2.8 billion dollars in damage? Tornadoes are a very serious natural disaster some can be done in 10 minutes but some can last for an hour or some can even last for more. Tornadoes can also unfortunately cause deaths and can very well obliterate buildings in seconds (of course depending how strong the building is and depending the kind of building). Tornadoes kill on an average of 60 people each year. Tornadoes can form without many warning (except if you are prepared), the damage it does is costly, but if you are prepared it’s easy to survive a deadly tornado.
How tornadoes form you ask? Tornadoes form when different winds from different places met and form this giant spinning destructive cyclone which can be powerful or only cause minor damage. Tornadoes form when hot air from different places and cold air from different places collides which can make a tornado at any speed,

Tornadoes can like I said before unfortunately cause the lives of many innocent people. Did you know that the Joplin tornado killed 158 people which is a lot of innocent people lives? Tornadoes don’t only effect humans they can ruin animals shelters which is a very major problem. Tornadoes destroy many houses which people need to rebuild which is a big time consumer and takes many money. Tornadoes also effect animal food chains because tornadoes don’t only kill humans they kill animals too.
Some tornado specifics can be interesting, some can be boring but these are the fascinating ones. There is a part of land in the Midwestern U.s where more than 1,000 tornadoes form. Most tornadoes only stay on the ground for less than five minutes and some tornadoes stand still while others can go on devastating speeds. The destruction tornadoes make is mostly from the debris that it picks up. More than half of tornadoes are weak and don’t cause many
Tornados are one of the most destructive and devastating natural forces on Earth. When a tornado is fully created, wind speeds can reach up to more than 300 mph (483 km/h). Most tornadoes that occur are between the Appalachians and Rocky Mountains, but tornados can happen where ever the conditions are right. 90% of tornadoes that happen in the United States, happens in the Central United States. Even though scientist have not yet understood how tornadoes are formed, they’ve developed a theory that consist of the process and conditions of which a tornado must have to form.
Hurricanes and tornadoes are both severe weather events that can potentially cause a great deal of damage to property. Both of these storms can threaten human life and in severe events with either a hurricane of a tornado there may well be a loss of life. They may be quite different in how they form and what they actually do but on the other hand those storms are both potentially devastating so they fall into the same category of potential severe weather danger. People who live in areas where hurricanes and tornadoes are known to appear during certain seasons of the year are always urged to be alert to weather warning systems. Those same residents know from experience to keep their radios tuned to weather emergency stations and they are in many cases prepared for the brunt of a storm by building basement shelters.
Whenever and wherever conditions are right, tornadoes are possible, but they are most common in the central plains of North America, east of the Rocky Mountains and west of the Appalachian Mountains. Tornadoes can also occur in many other areas of the world as well. They have been recorded in Australia, Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America as well as in North America. They occur mostly during the spring and summer; however, the tornado season comes early in the south and later in the north because spring comes later in the year as one moves northward. They usually occur during the late afternoon and early evening. However, they have been know to occur in every state in the United States, on any day of the year, and at any hour.
The Joplin tornado was the biggest tornado on the record for that year. The Joplin tornado was the most powerful tornado that people have ever seen. After the tornado was over there was no building without debris on or in or by them everything was destroyed. The tornado killed thirty-eight people and over 1,000 people were injured. The cost of everything was about 2.8 billion dollars for stores, houses and even cars. The Joplin tornado was the tornado that caused the most damage that year. Now learning from that I have some tips for you. Some tips for you when there is a tornado in the area: If you see a tornado then run to the lowest area in your house and protect yourself. If you don't have a lower level then go to a room without a window. When the tornado hits keep covering yourself till it
The Joplin, Missouri Tornado included many details common to Tornadoes. All Tornadoes are created by a series of rotating air from thunderstorms. Once a lot a rotating air combines a funnel cloud starts to form from underneath
A tornado is a violently rotating column of air that spins while in contact with both the surface of the Earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or, in rare cases, the base of a cumulus cloud. This is what hit a little town called Greensburg Kansas, no bigger than 785 people. The tornado ripped through the town like a child goes through their present on Christmas morning. From this day on Greensburg will never be the same, dreams and hopes scattered everywhere. But, Greensburg came back and hit the tornado back by trying to become the “Greenest Town in America”.
On May 22, 2011, Joplin, MO was hit by one of the deadliest tornadoes recorded since 1947. Growing to a category EF-5, and tearing a path of nearly a mile wide, the tornado claimed 161 lives, and roughly 7,500 homes and 500 businesses were either damaged or destroyed. The estimated damage was nearly $3 billion, the highest ever for a tornado in the United States. Lives were lost, many people lost everything they had, and yet they would still stay to pick up the pieces and rebuild. The area of tornado alley in the United States expects this type of natural disaster, and is always prepared, however predicting tornadoes intensity can be extremely difficult since one can never tell what a tornado is going to do next.
2011 contained one of the deadliest and costliest tornado seasons the United States has ever seen, leaving 550+ dead. In one year alone, 1,692 tornadoes touched-down, primary in the area known as “Tornadoes Alley” (extending from Texas to Minnesota). April had the highest amount of reported tornadoes for the year, totaling 875.
Tornadoes are created in many shapes and sizes, but they are typically in the form of a visible condensation funnel whose narrow end touches the earth and is often encircled by a cloud of debris and dust. Most tornadoes have wind speeds less than 110 miles per hour (177 km/h); have length about 250 feet (76 m) across, and travel a few miles (several kilometers) before dissipating. The most extreme tornadoes can attain wind speeds of more than 300 miles per hour (483 km/h), stretch more than two miles (3.2 km) across, and stay on the ground for dozens of miles (more than 100 km) (Bluestein, 2013). A visible cloud is not needed for disbursing tornado. Some tornadoes may not appear to extend to the ground but are causing considerable damage (NOAA, 2014). Tornadoes can be occurred with various shapes and sizes, and most produce winds less than 120mph.
Hurricanes and tornadoes have a very similar formation process. For one, both hurricanes and tornadoes form when warm and cold air mix (“Storm Chasing”). The Coriolis is the effect that comes from the Earth’s spin. When the effect affects the hurricane it causes it to spin, since it is not strong enough to spin as fast as a tornado the hurricane has a slow rotating motion (“Storm Chasing”). With a tornado, a storm has to go to a warm, dry place.
On May 22, 2011 the city of Joplin, of Missouri, was impacted by an EF-5 tornado. There were 158 deaths with over a thousand injured because of the tornado. There was also an EF-2, EF-3, EF-4, and EF-1 at the same time as well. The tornado was on the ground for 22.1 miles and lasted 38 minutes from start to finish. EF-5s have been reported as having mini tornados inside the EF-5 tornados. EF-5s are the powerfulliest and biggest tornadoes in history. Even though they are big and powerful, they travel very slow, so it will be very easy to possibly outrun one in a car. Tornadoes will sound like a loud roar, or a freight train. To know when a tornado is coming, the sky will turn dark, or sometimes a greenish color and as I said before, you
The strongest tornadoes come from the kind of long-lasting fierce thunderstorms known as supercells. As the name implies, these are intense thunderstorms, which can produce large hail and downbursts in addition to tornadoes. Supercells are most common on the Plains in the Southeast and across the Midwest, but do occur elsewhere.
A tornado is a swirling funnel that goes hundreds of miles per hour. They include lightning, damaging, straight-line winds, heavy rain and hail. They damage houses and towns. A tornado can happen any time at any day. Humans and animals can die if they don’t take the right procedures. Some animals have been reported to survive living through a tornado.
Tornadoes can form anywhere. But they usually form around warm, moist air and cool, dry air. Also most tornadoes form from thunderstorms. According to www.weatherwhizkids.com
Beginning, I have been in a tornado and it wasn’t fun, it was very scary. Firstly, tornadoes and hurricanes cost over millions of dollars to repair for a house or a garage. A hurricane can cost up to 15 billion dollars to put into repair and tornadoes can cost up to 500 million. Secondly, according to "Hurricanes in the U.S," hurricanes killed over 1000 people and roughly 100 billion dollars in damage. In Hurricanes in the U.S over 1000 people in 2005 were killed and over 100 billion dollars to repair in damage. Next, tornadoes are very
