Before Jonestown started to fall apart, people actually felt they had a purpose. They felt they had a reason to be living, unlike somewhere else they felt they were useless. Homeless or drug addicts that showed up to Peoples Temple felt it was their home and gave them something to work for. They worked for the idea of making the world a better place, and everybody being treated equally. At the same time, Jones held these gatherings called “white nights” where he would tell people to drink punch. He then proceeded to tell them it was poison and were going to die as a way to test their loyalty in his defense. “They did as they were told and lined up to drink Flavor Aid that was to contain poison. More than once, they did so without question.”
I have lived in Middletown, New Jersey since day one and I hope to after college, till the day I die. No town could ever compare to how great of a town Middletown is. If I wanted to ever live in another town in New Jersey it would have to be so similar to Middletown. I live on a cul de sac and the name of my street is Omega Court. I live extremely close to Middletown High School North, and I will never walk to school, but I have walked home before. Middletown is a great environment, with safe, quiet, and great schools/neighborhoods. I am extremely lucky to live in Middletown, but most importantly have a house that is able to provide me everything I need to be able to live here and continue growing up.
One of the major underlying conventions of punk music is that it tends to reject an association with the mainstream. Punk rock is an all-encompassing out of the ordinary form of music. It goes against mainstream ideals in every possible way, from its grungy sound to the off-putting lyrics and influential ethos. Anti-Flag’s lyrics, message and political/social influences are a perfect example of what the 21st century punk ethos is and means.

Imagine eating only 300 calories per day, that’s only four pieces of bread. Now envision that every day for five years straight. The Jews suffered greatly under the Nazi dictatorship. The Jewish people had limited food and water, their daily lives were controlled and long, and the atmosphere was filthy.

A Boston airport transportation limo becomes witness to many such heated and spirited discussions struck when among the passengers when commuting to or from airport to the university.
The essay entitled “The Beat Generation ans San Francisco's Culture of Dissent” by Nancy J. Peters, talks about the Beat Generation, Bohemianism and other issues in the '90's that affected America's literature and poetry today. The Beat Generation emerged in the 1950's and they were a group of artist's, writer's and poets. The term “beat” was coined by Jack Kerouac, author and poet, who is perhaps the most recognized name and face of the group. There were many recurring topics in the Beats' poetry that later on described their literary characteristics. They wrote about nature and jazz but also focused more on sex and drugs.

Suburbia is America’s number one stable, and it continues to be a vital aspect of the American dream. In the United States, over 90 percent of all residents reside in the suburban areas while only 10 percent live in urban cores. As more millennials get older other options begin taking priority— like creating a family — making suburban living even more desirable. Despite many Americans living in thriving communities, families continue to struggle with housing prices, hardline credit, looking toward bad news of a demise of suburbia. For example look at San Fransisco, there are more dogs than children, or Manhattan which continues to have the lowest percentage of children in the country. Suburbia may be going forward to relative ending if we don’t try to revive some issues.
Montréal’s Chinatown is located in the quadrilateral surrounded by Viger Avenue, Saint-Urbain Street, Boulevard René-Lévesque and Boulevard St-Laurent. It all started in 1860, when the first Chinese came to live in Montreal, to be able to build the railway from coast to coast, and to work in the mines. In 1902, this quadrilateral was officially named Chinatown. The Chinese community wished to continue to carry on its culture and customs, and by 1915, it boasted some 50 respectable businesses and restaurants. The point of having a Chinatown was for them to feel less homesick. Although the Chinese pursued their commercial activities in the district, some of them gradually migrated to the suburbs of Montréal, especially Brossard. Some of them
“If you see me as your friend I’ll be your friend, if you see me as your father I’ll be your father, if you see me as your savior I’ll be your savior, if you see me as your God I’ll be your God” (Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple; hereafter, Jonestown). At one time, these words had power behind them. People would go as far as selling their homes and leaving the lives they once knew to follow the man who spoke those exact words. The man who I am referring to is none other than Jim Jones. To put it at best, Jim Jones was a man talented at making people feel like they had a purpose and were “exceptionally special” (Jonestown). He was a very charismatic man and he would use his charisma to lure people to join his church, Peoples Temple. He watched the church he had founded with less than a hundred members grow

One of the best times to visit Dogtown is - as you may expect - St Patrick's Day, when the town livens up even more with its extensive festivities!
