Saints Michael and Theresa Youth Ministry of the combined parishes: Saint Theresa’s in Kenilworth, NJ and Saint Michael’s in Cranford, NJ has been the epitome of good and positive in my life. The program itself along with all who have gone through it, have taught me how much difference one person can bring into the world, and how much stronger that difference can be with a team of believers.

I was always the kid in my family that enjoyed philosophical debate, and now with my recent love for African-American culture and history, I feel that the Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar would be just up my alley. Sitting in a room with a handful of other African-American high schoolers that have the same fire for learning and discussion as I would be wonderful, and possibly would foster a plethora of great new friendships. The workshops lead by the adult professionals would also serve as a good networking opportunity as well as the chance to understand what career opportunities would possibly available to me. I am a young intelligent poor African-American that has Haitian heritage living in Orlando, attending a predominately caucasian school on a magnet.
The Udall S.U.N Club is an amazing organization that focuses on the community’s needs. Every first Saturday of every month they meet in a local spot in our town and cook a community breakfast for the whole town. This organization is a non-profit organization because every penny they make goes into the groceries they get once a month to feed the community. Their mission statement includes “serving Udall’s needs” and that is exactly what they do each month. I have had an amazing opportunity to be able to provide my services to this amazing organization for the past few months and it has been an eye-opener to see how these people dedicate their time and hard work to see a smile on someone else’s face. I have learned so much through this organization.

Athens and Sparta were two of the most powerful city-states. They were similar in the way that they both feared revolt and civil war. But how they dealt with it was different. Sparta, concluded that the only ways to survive was to create a strong city state and they adopted a strong set of laws where boys had to leave for training at the age of 7 and stayed in the service for many years. Athens dealt with the fear of civil war by making timely reforms, creating a democracy. Sparta and Athens also differed in the way that Sparta may have had the strongest army in Greece, they lacked excitement of the mind and Athens educated people and raised them to act as free people. The Golden age came about after the Persians were finally driven out of

Satirical works are meant to ridicule aspects that are often seen as controversial or unfavorable in society. In the book The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer uses irony, humor, and satire to reveal how rampant the corruption of the Church was during medieval times mainly in the Pardoner's tale. Along the way to Canterbury, the Pardoner discloses corrupt secrets about himself to everyone else in the group. In a way, these secrets represent how dishonorable the Church was during the middle ages.
In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, an unjust society is working to imprison a wrongfully convicted African-American, apart from a few citizens and lawyers yearning for a ‘just’ conclusion to the case of Tom Robinson. This novel encourages the reader to admire Tom Robinson for his determination to help someone in need, regardless of the black/white divide that has brought him scrutiny. It also persuades the reader to pity Tom, because of the sad, yet inevitable end to the case. Tom was “… a dead man the minute Mayella … screamed.” It can also be noted that the reader should admire Atticus, for his willingness and determination to help Tom in his case, although, he knew it would never be possible to save him from his inevitable end.
I wouldn’t really say my community as a whole has an impact on me as a person but people in around me have had a huge impact on me for who I am today. The people who have the biggest impact on me is defiantly my family and friends, I have done so many things with them that made me the person who I am today.
