Today’s marriage can be viewed in so many different ways. Everyone has a different say on what marriage means to them. Whether it’s said out in vows to share with friends and family on a big special day, simply signing a piece of paper in the courthouse to have a small gathering. For example, even shown in the popular modern television series, Grey’s Anatomy, the two lead characters Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd, write what they promised each other in a marriage on a sticky note and got married in a courthouse. Marriage is the one bond between two people that cannot be unbroken. It’s something that is shared between two people, or two ‘soulmates’ if you prefer. It’s when you have a big day and want to come home to share it with your favorite person. Marriage is like an everlasting friendship. A typical American marriage is usually between a man and woman. Recently, it has been legalized for same sex marriages to occur as well, but that will get explained a little later. The tradition is usually that the man will go to the future brides’ father and ask for his permission to ask his daughter for her hand in marriage. Usually the father will say yes, and following the man will think of clever ways to ask for her hand in marriage. Usually the man will think of romantic sentimental ways and plan it right to a tee. Once figured out, the man will proceed to follow in those planned outlines and when the time is just right he will then kneel down to one knee and pop the big question. Marriage is a significant part of Judaism bringing together a woman and man under God’s reign. It is the mitzvah (122) “To marry a wife by means of ketubah and keddushin” (Deut 22:13), all Jewish adherents see marriage as a necessity in order to obey God and to experience the fullness of life. In Genesis God says: “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” It is a link between individuals and the wider community as it recognises two individuals coming together, celebrated by the wider community. Also the marriage ceremony itself contains symbolic significance to Judaism, conveying Jewish beliefs through symbols, actions and words.
The groom's father provides all necessary arrangements and needs of the wedding day for the bride's family. Relatives and friends of the bride come together in her father's house and bring her out to sit among the women gathered in her father's home and waiting for the groom and his friends to come and take her to her home.

There are no unique practices because most of practices are derived from other cultures.
