Sometimes you have to have courage and stand for what you believe in. In Mildred Taylor’s book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, she uses the character Cassie to do exactly that! Cassie is a brave young girl, with only brothers. Cassie had to show courage when she stood up for little man and when she beat Lillian Jean up! Cassie showed courage when she stood up for little man. Little man is a clean freak. So he didn't want the dirty book. ¨ Miz Crocker,¨I said ,¨I don't want my book neither¨(Mildred, 26) Cassie was courageous to stand up to her teacher knowing she’ll get spanked for it! She still stood up for her brother. One of my favorite time she stood up for herself, by fighting Lillian Jean! Lillian Jean is a white girl, even though she has

In life, being courageous means you have to stand up for your convictions and beliefs. In the novel Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry written by Mildred D. Taylor, Stacey consistently shows gigantic amounts of courage throughout the book. Stacey shows how courageous he was when he chased after T.J. to find the truth for his mom; when he confronted T.J. about his lying and tells the kids he wouldn’t stand for it; and when Stacey stays behind during the big explosion of violence at the end of the book. The events all demonstrate Stacey’s courage and willingness to help his family.
In the novel Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry, Cassie Logan shows courage at the beginning of the novel when little man gets in trouble when he throws his book on the floor and stomps on it because of what was in it. When the teacher says he is going to get a whipping, cassie looks in her book and understands why little man did what he did. In the condition table, whites got the books when they were new, then the condition went down but the whites still used them, and when the condition was very poor, they gave the books to the black and instead of putting colored or black for the race, they put an offensive name. Cassie argues with the teacher and stands up for her little brother. Another act of courage is when cassie is at strawberry and is at the barnett mercantile.
Standing up for what you believe in isn’t always easy, but if you have the courage, you can do anything you put your mind to. Throughout the book, “Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry”, by Mildred D. Taylor, I feel that Cassie Logan showed the most courage. Even though she didn’t quite understand why her family was treated the way they were, she knew it wasn’t right. She showed courage when she stood up to Mr. Barnett, when she stood up to Miz Crocker because the “new books” were dirty, and also when she had to stand up to Lillian Jean. For a girl Cassie’s age, she had a deep respect for not only herself, but also the others around her.
Throughout Mildred D. Taylor’s book “,Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry,” Cassie Logan shows courage and bravery by standing up for little man, helping TJ after he stole a gun, and facing her rival, Lillian Jean Simms. Cassie stands up for what she believes is right. She fights for what she believes in and is not afraid to speak her mind.
Courage is hard to have. Especially when there are people judging you. In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry, there are many great acts of courage shown. In the book, Mildred Taylor writes many times when a character has to show courage. Stacey had to show courage when Papa was gone and he had to step up and be the man of the house, when, the night men attacked them, and when he had to help TJ get home and help the Avery’s.
Cassie Logan: A Brave Young Woman Courage is when you are scared to do Something but you do it anyways because you know it is the right thing to do. In Chapter 5 of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, Cassie’s innocence causes her to find herself in frightening situations. Cassie, the black female protagonist of the story, lives in 1933, in Mississippi, where instances of racism happen daily. However, Cassie, because she is 9 years old and her family wants to protect her from the injustices of the world for as long as possible, doesn’t have a clear understanding of why the white people in her life are doing bad things to her or knowledge as to why her actions create disruption within the white community. In fact, “a lack of understanding and knowledge” is a definition of the word innocent (Dictionary.com), which describes Cassie perfectly in Chapter 5, although she may appear mischievous to others.
The first lesson Cassie learns is to do what the white folds want and that will keep you safe. For example, Big Ma forced Cassie to apologize for something Cassie did not mean to do. Next, Cassie learns that there is a big difference between blacks and whites. When Lillian Jean bumped into Cassie, Lillian forced Cassie to apologize to her for something that Cassie did not mean to do. Finally, Cassie comes to understand that blacks are just as good as whites. Uncle hammer has a car just as nice as Mr. Granger who is a white man that is known as rich and has wanted to take the Logans land for a long time. Big Ma, Mama, and Uncle Hammer taught Cassie different lessons in Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
The Use of Cassie as the Narrator in Taylor's Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry
Since the beginning, humans have enslaved or mistreated their fellow humans. Whether it is a matter of race, gender, religion, or otherwise, humans commit horrible crimes against each other simply because they are different from one another. However, throughout history, humans have also protested this abuse. Over time, the mistreatment stops if enough people protest it. This cycle of injustice and protest becomes a recurring theme in Mildred D. Taylor’s historical fiction novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. [Needs summary] In the novel, the nine-year-old African-American narrator Cassie endures injustices such as racial epithets in her textbook, a racist bus driver, and a sadistic twelve-year-old white girl. But there will be protest against all of these, and Cassie will learn valuable lessons from each of them.
This is an essay on the short story “Soldier’s Home” by Hemingway. Will the life of a soldier ever be the same after returning from war? Many generations of young adults have gone from their homes with tranquil settings to experience war and come home to a different world. Many have witnessed the devastations and atrocities that occur with war. Harold Krebs, a young man from a small town with a loving family is no different from those before him and those to follow. The anguish of what war is however cannot dispel the thoughts and memories of what many young men come home to face in the real world. Many have trouble coping in the new world known as home.
Little Man, Cassie, and T.J. learned multiple life lessons in the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by experiencing and suffering. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a wondrous book with many different characters that have their own unique traits. One of the characters in this book is Cassie, who is a nine-year-old girl living in Mississippi during the Great Depression. The trait that best describes her is being courageous. The denotative definition of courageous is. “Not deterred by danger or pain; brave.”
In Edgar Allen Poe’s short story: “The Fall of the House of Usher”, Poe perfectly exemplifies his main principle that everything in the story must contribute to a single effect. As a result of this method, everything in the short story is specifically chosen to develop fear and terror in the minds of the reader through the use of mystery and gothic writing. The narrator’s initial reaction to the house of Usher introduces an eerie, gothic mood to the story as Poe is trying to develop a setting of mystery and fear. As the narrator approaches the house, it’s evening time and he feels a strange atmosphere developing around him.
