“Fear Is a reaction. Courage Is a Decision”- Sir Winston Churchill Noah says his mother as she cried, Where Is my son noah. Noah's mom Saw a letter on the floor that said “mom I'm done with life and people I'm such a burden towards people and the best way to fix this is to kill myself don't come towards the bridge if u dont want to see me in blood”. Noah woke up at his usually time which was exactly 5:30 because his school starts at 7:00, His mom made him really delicious pancakes as that's how he would describe it. He finished getting ready for school and went to eat and his mom saw a bruise on his arm and leg. Noah’s mom said Noah did u get in a fight, Noah had said no and said he was riding his skateboard and hit his self. Noah was done eating and grabbed his backpack and ran off, As Noah was walking someone pushed him and he flew across into the bushes and he saw it was his bullies. Josh, Nate, and matrix were Noah's bullies for a couple of months but noah did not do anything about it. It all started when Noah went to his new school which is called harvey high school, And Noah was just walking gradually and his shoes were untied and he fell pushing the kid in front of him which led Noah to fight that kid and that's basically where it all started. So when Noah got pushed into the bush he got up quickly and ran as fast as he can to his school because they were going to punch him and kick him. Noah's first period was math he hated math so much he fell asleep in that
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” ~ Winston Churchill. This quote defines what it is to be courageous, to be courageous is to persevere even if you know you will fail. This kind of courage is the courage which both Harold Crick in Stranger Than Fiction and Jean Louise “Scout” Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird. In Stranger Than Fiction, an IRS agent, Harold Crick, with a monotonous life learns that you must not only survive, but you must truly live. This lesson is taught through a series of events that lead to his breaking out of his shell and truly living his life. The events are preliminarily put into action through Harold hearing the voice of the author of a book about his life. In To Kill A Mockingbird, a tomboyish six-year-old, Jean Louise “Scout” Finch, discovers the true meaning of camaraderie and bravery. Her friendships are strong but her definition of courage is flawed. In the end, she realizes a great truth, that to really know someone, you have to imagine yourself in their shoes. Courage is important to these two characters, as they both discover what it really means to be brave and what the true definition of courage is. Courage is not always outspoken, sometimes courage is knowing that you will fail, but trying and failing anyway and then accepting your failure.
Throughout history, there have been countless times whenre individuals have courageously fought for change and societal justice. For instance, Gandhi helped India gain their independence, even though the circumstances were extremely risky for him, and could have led to his arrest or even death. However, he continued to persevere through it all, and was able to accomplish great things for his country. Another example is Malala Yousafzai, who promoted the education of girls in her country. Despite the clear threat of the Taliban, she continued to fight hard for her cause. Courage can be defined in many different ways, such as the ability to persevere and accomplish something in a frightening or risky situation. Examples of courage can be seen all around the world. Without courageous people, society would not have been able to improve. Being courageous is difficult, and requires an abundance of dedication and perseverance. It also includes remaining strong, despite the challenges that may occur along the way.
In the literary work, Speaking of Courage, Tim O’Brien highlights the trying struggle of a post-war solider attempting desperately to integrate himself back into American society. Paul Berlin’s trials and tribulations exemplify the “dominance of a citizen culture in the United States,” as mentioned by Dr. Decker in class. American society does not allow for the soldiers we have sent off to fight to return as warriors.
“Courage is not the absence of fear is the ability to act in the presence of fear.”This quote explains that it is an act of bravery when you do something that helpful or valuable to you even if you are afraid doing it. For instance risking your life to stand up for something that you care about or that you believe.
Courage is more than just a gun. In the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, courage is shown in more ways than shooting a rabid dog. During the 1930’s of Maycomb County, courage is seen by taking on a trial that seems useless. It is seen by a woman who gave up the much needed approval of the town to support her brother. It is seen by the willpower of a dying woman to make a change. Atticus Finch, Aunt Alexandra and Ms. Dubose show true courage by doing things that others wouldn’t, even when it was the harder path to take.
The essential question i choose was, what is courage. I choose courage because the story i wrote was about a girl who was not accepted by anyone accept her grandma. The reason this is, is because she smells horrible, and know one wanted to smell like her. She thought know one would accept her. I choose courage because she could of gave up and stop trying. But instead she was going to find someone that would accept her. Her mom did not accept her, or her uncle and aunt. She thought she was going to give up, but then she remembered that her grandma loved her through out anything that can happen to her. When she went her grandma's house she sang a song that she sang to her other family and they did not accept her either, but her grandma did. I
One should not go into battle cowardly, nor rush, but instead one should go into battles courageously, this is the advice Socrates gave to scholars. Courage can be seen as the ability to carry on, despite the presence of fear. This is supported by the views of William Slim (2004, 172) who stated that any man would want to be called brave, someone who is courageous, than be called any other virtue. He also stated that all other virtues for example: Faith, hope, etc. can only become virtues when they are exercised through courage and bravery. Situations cause people to find courage within themselves in order to complete what they went out to do, that is what happens to the characters where they need to find courage to get through the situations
Courage: the ability to do something that frightens one. It is always good to get someone who can help you through what happens to you and what's going on in your life. It all about a girl named Melinda, she is very quiet and doesn't have any friends after what had happened at this party.
In the competitive world of business the bottom line is king. Whether it’s increasing profits or meeting organizational goals it’s what drives a company and its employees. Business is a dog eat dog world and because of its competitive nature you don’t want to be caught wearing milk bone underwear. How a company makes or increases profits or even meets its goals is not always on the up and up. Sometimes safety practices go by the wayside putting people in danger of being hurt or even fudging the numbers to keep stakeholders happy. Whether you are a superior, subordinate, or peer you have a moral responsibility to speak up and question such acts. Human nature tells us that if nothing is ever said or done about bad behavior it will continue
“... I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see through it not matter what” (Lee, 11). This book is a story about two siblings that experienced many things throughout the whole book, most of them hard and new to them, but at the end, they assimilated to face these things. Their father, Atticus, was a lawyer who did everything at his hands to always do the right thing, and as a result of that, Jem and Scout met several circumstances that other kids weren’t exposed to and they learned to forgive and and appreciate others the way they are. Compassion and forgiveness are perceptible in this book and appreciable things like Camellias, and Red Geraniums can represent such strong emotions.
The definition of courage is the quality of spirit that allows a person to face difficulty without fear or doubt. This quality is what drives those who have a purpose to survive. In the short story “The Sniper;” By Liam O’Flaherty and, in the excerpt of The Trouble with Geniuses, Part II,” By Malcolm Gladwell courage is displayed as an act of commitment. In the book “Outliers,” Chris Langan had a knack for mathematics and philosophy. Many people described him as being gifted. His younger brother Mark Langan often compared him to Robert Oppenheimer, a physicist famously known for the development of the nuclear bomb in World War II. Chris however, did not have the determination to become a famous physicist. He was kicked out of college more than once for unnecessary reasons and eventually gave up on his education. The sniper however, was a soldier and did not fear death. He used his wits to fool the other sniper and managed to buy time for his escape except it did not pay off in the end as his brother was his enemy. So, in both stories courage is brought up as a description and almost like a goal for both characters. This trait is a prime example of a quality required to overcome adversity in life.
“I dare you and your stupid friends to stay the night in the Manson Mansion,” Josh said, poking me in the chest while his friends chuckled behind him. “Then you won’t have to deal with me for the rest of the year. Deal,” he added, giving me a cold stare. Josh is the school bully, even if you are bigger (muscular), taller, or older he will mess with you. Last year I was shoved in a locker at the end of the day, twice! That wasn’t even the worst thing he has ever done to anyone. Josh is known for shoving people in lockers, but two years ago, he shoved a kid named Frank in a locker over Christmas break and while everyone (even the custodians) was at home celebrating Josh came back and put fish in that locker. Frank was always known as your stereotypical
Courage is a necessity to overcome fears and achieve a desired goal. Fear is something that exists in all of us. There is no hero or any particular courageous figure that is without fear. Being fearless is not required to be courageous, one simply has to look past or overcome their fears to possess this great quality. When overcoming fears and going against the norm, there are always risks involved. There are different types of risks that come about. Someone could risk life or limb, while others risk their reputation. Either risk is serious enough that a person must have courage to endure that particular risk. Courage can occur anytime, anywhere, and often in our everyday lives. Everyone will experience courage no matter how young,
Courage is a cornerstone of wartime leadership. Throughout history, Courage has been the defining virtue of the warrior and for good cause. Warriors face frightening and dangerous situations; and the wartime leader must lead these warriors from the front by displaying the courage they expect to see in their men. Without courage, a leader cannot lead from the front nor do the right thing during unfavorable times.
The Mirabal family, heroes of the Dominican Republic, revolutionized the Dominican dictator by overthrowing him. Minerva, María Teresa, Patria, and Dedé Mirabal were the leaders each putting their life at risk to fight for what they believe in. The four sisters worked together in order to make a difference, all putting a bountiful amount of courage, some more than others, so that they can put an end to the dreaded dictator’s reign, with the help of Julia Alvarez, spreading the word in her book In the Time of the Butterflies.
