“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are” This quote to me means that if I have courage when I want to get A’s and B’s or if I want to make the cross country team then I will be able to grow up and know I did it. My goals are to get A’s and B’s on all of my report cards this year because I want to make my family and myself happy, also to make the cross country team because I want myself to know that I’m a fast runner.
I want to complete my goals and make people happy. My first goal is to get all A’s and B’s, I want to do this because I want my parents to be proud of me and I want to set a good example for my sister for when she comes to Nagel. How I want to accomplish this goal is to write in my planner every time a teacher
Not only is courage an important life skill, it is also needed in growing up. The quotation, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are” by E.E. Cummings is illustrated in both the novel Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey and the film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty [2013] directed by Ben Stiller. Throughout the novel Jasper Jones, Charlie Buckin, the main character learns how to become courageous through his role models, Jasper Jones and author Mark Twain. Similarly, Walter Mitty, the main character in the film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, learns about courage through his role model, Sean O’Connell and lady friend, Cheryl Melhoff. Both of these texts have shaped my own ideas of what courage is and how it is needed to grow up
It is important to be courageous to show people the true braver and how far people will go for something. In the book Jasper Jones. Charlie and his friends had several courageous acts. One these courageous acts that stood out to me the most was when Charlie decided to help jasper so he wouldn’t get into trouble. This is courageous because it shows the risk that Charlie is willing to take for someone he doesn’t even know.
In the novel The Survivors, by Will Weaver, Miles Newell displays a constant mood of courageousness. One time in the novel, Miles takes the time to walk Sarah to the bus stop, even though she could've walked herself. (19) Another time Miles shows courageousness is when he shoots at that couple near the river. They could’ve been psychopaths and murdered him with axes. They were pretending to have a baby after all. (55) The last way Miles was courageous is when he and Artie tripped Danny off his motorcycle, at Birch Bay to get their old cabin back. (288) Danny could have also tried to kill them with his guns and stuff but they didn't they just left without a fight, which is kinda weird. Courageous means not being afraid to do whatever it takes
E.E. Cummings explained “It takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are.”
In the classic movie, The Wizard of Oz, the cowardly lion was a symbol. Literally, the lion was a coward; he was not brave and did not have any courage. The figurative symbol was the big beast was actually a gentle giant with his tail between his legs. This same description can be used to describe Henry, the main character, in the novel, The Red Badge Courage. Courage is defined as mental or moral strength to venture or persevere. While Henry desires to be courageous, Henry wonders deep inside if he is capable of such bravery when faced with battle. Henry is a coward as portrayed with his lack of courage when he flees from the scene at the start of the second battle. When the novel begins, Henry is not sure what to think about war; he fears he will run like a coward during his first battle.
Nelson Mandela once said, “I learned that fear and courage was not in the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.” This quote relates to Harper Lee’s Atticus Finch. In the novel, Atticus Finch is a symbol of bravery in Maycomb. His children, Scout and Jem, learn from him, and that is what causes them to lose their innocence, and focus on how people are acting in Maycomb towards racism. Atticus defends a black man, named Tom Robinson, even though people that supported his opponent, Bob Ewell, were mean to him. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus portrays the theme of courage in the face of evil through defending Tom Robinson, the confrontation with Bob Ewell, and when the men came to hurt to Tom Robinson in his jail.
Lee and Conolly shows the audience that courage tend to come in diverge forms. One form is physical courage. In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus demonstrates courage in a physical sense as he finds himself in a face off with a loose rabid dog, only armed with a shotgun. " For God's sake, Mr. Finch, look where he is! Miss and you'll go straight into the Radley house!
“To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is a novel that explores the theme of courage throughout key events and through character. The novel is narrated by Jen-Louise Finch over a two year period revolving mainly around the trial of Tom Robinson.

What is courage? Is it bravery, or is it something that keeps you going? For my parents, courage was just to survive. Being born during a war torn economy system is difficult, but you wouldn’t know until you’ve experienced it. Starting out from absolutely nothing then working your way through life. There was no hope, no goals, nor any ambitions. Giving up was one of the options, but that never occurred in their minds.
Harper Lee’s definition of real courage “Is not a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do” (Lee 149). This book is built around courage, many characters help explain Harper Lee’s definition of real courage. The ones that really stick out to me are Walter Cunningham, Atticus Finch, and Mrs. Dubose.
Courage tells us a lot of things and makes us think because without courage we shouldn’t live and walk around others with our full emotions and not been not bad and nice but normal “courage is what it takes to stand up and speak courage is what it takes to sit down and listen” (winston churchill). And I think it is the best behavior that a human can have in his life. And there is more good things that we write or learn.
Aristotle once said, "Such then is the character of true courage...though it never provokes danger; [it] is always ready to meet even death in an honorable cause." I believe this means that one has true courage when, in a situation, no matter what the outcome will be, one is ready to accept their fate, even if it means death. During the tragic event that occurred on September 11, 2001, almost three thousand people lost their lives. On that day, we were able to hear stories of many people, who would be considered couragous by Aristotle.
Courage is a necessity to overcome fears and achieve a desired goal. Fear is something that exists in all of us. There is no hero or any particular courageous figure that is without fear. Being fearless is not required to be courageous, one simply has to look past or overcome their fears to possess this great quality. When overcoming fears and going against the norm, there are always risks involved. There are different types of risks that come about. Someone could risk life or limb, while others risk their reputation. Either risk is serious enough that a person must have courage to endure that particular risk. Courage can occur anytime, anywhere, and often in our everyday lives. Everyone will experience courage no matter how young,
Courage can be ordered as physical, social, moral, and inventive. Physical bravery, for instance, can be shown by firefighters. Fire fighters chance substantial damage and perhaps their lives to spare someone else in risk. Social bravery is important to fabricate solid connections and helps support certainty when working with people in general. Social strength can regularly be perceived in a secondary school environment. Building up an association with an understudy that has couple of companions and isn 't thought to be a piece of the "prevalent group", is a case of social bravery. The third kind of courage is moral. At the point when a man battles for a reason in spite of the results, they show moral mettle. In
