Ever since I was a little, I always wanted to be a doctor and with that vision it required a lengthy preparation and a lot of studying . For my intended major, Molecular Biology, I took all the required classes for transfer in addition, studying my medical/Mcat books on the side. Right after high school, I completed my certification of nursing aide. This allowed me to venture into the medical field early on and attain experience. I applied at Creekside Convalescent Hospital and became a well oiled nursing aide machine. After recognition from upper management I transitioned into a leadership role with included overseeing a restorative care program. This included overseeing and redeveloping a not so well structured restorative care program. I was in charge of setting the schedule, dealing with issues among employees, improving collaboration, improving work conditions, re-training the new curriculum of the program to the employees, and changing their way of charting . After making a lot of changes to the program, some employees quit and some stayed. After I while ,with my ideas and with the help of my supervisor we have improved our restorative care program drastically. In the beginning, we had a chaotic program without order and now, we still have some minor issues to work out, but it has improved. The leadership role I’m most proud of is my participation in two mission trips. Growing up in a community near the largest city in Iowa, my first mission trip was in an impoverished area of Wyoming, the Wind River Indian Reservation. My second mission trip was in the underprivileged areas of Nashville, Tennessee. During these two trips, I learned how to give more than to receive by painting houses for those unable to, distributed food at a food pantry to those who don’t have the means to purchase food, listened and brought cheer to those injured or ill at a hospital, and read and played with children at a daycare. In all of these activities I gained the experiences that it’s always best to put others needs before my own, give back and to take action when not asked
I have had many accomplishments and times of leadership. Some leadership roles I have participated in are: being Deacons Quorum President, Senior Patrol Leader, Band, Cross Country, “Teacher’s PET” in 5th grade, and Basketball. Some achievements I’ve accomplished are: being #1 on the reading hall of fame in 5th grade, had 4 Band concerts, gone to Scout Camp and helped with eagle projects, been to 7 Cross Country meets, and been on 3 Basketball teams.
Blistering heat, rushing adrenaline, and a lost voice are all ways to describe one example of a leadership experience that I had was during my junior year at my second CBL Cross Country race. I remember that at this time, instead of putting in our top seven runners at this varsity race, we actually instead put in our number eight through 14 runners on the team due to our coach playing a gamble and seeing if we could still possibly win the League Championship while sitting out our top racers.
I have demonstrated leadership in a several different ways. During middle school, I was a member of the National Junior Honor Society. In fact, I gave up a majority of my study halls to help out the advisor. I am currently a captain of my fall sport. Because I hold this position, I help the underclassmen during games, encourage them, and resolve conflicts. In addition to that, I used to be a teacher’s assistant to a second grade religious education class. Next year, I plan to join student government and maintain leadership positions.

Throughout my high school years, I gave myself many opportunities and challenges to demonstrate my worth as a leader. Of all these positions, the one I take pride in the most would be taking the lead role of directing a non-profit ACT organization. Together with my classmate, we had founded the organization to which I took charge of after he left to attend college. During my role as president of the ACT organization, my responsibilities included tutoring, finding teachers, organizing sign ups, as well as procuring space to hold classes.
I have had many different situations in which I was a leadership role for many people from different backgrounds such as, Relay for Life, high school football and basketball captain, and little league baseball and softball umpire. From those experiences, I have gained the knowledge that being positive is very important.
