Can you imagine living in different foster homes since you were a baby and staying outside in the yard like a deranged animal for the entire weekend at a very young age? Well consider yourself lucky because that is exactly what Hollis woods life is all about. Hollis woods is a character in a book titled “pictures of Hollis woods” by Patricia Reilly Giff. There are three main elements that stood out to me the most. They are mood, theme, and foreshadowing.

The book Crank sure of course does have a lot of poor judgement in it, but I think it could be a great book for a kid around my age to sit down and read. When I first picked up the book and started to read to read it I never thought I would end on the mind frame that I did. It for sure is a long book, and does contain some graphic material, but it is for sure worth reading in my opinion, and I think you should definitely keep this book, for all you know, it could be the best book a kid has ever picked up and read, I know it was for me.

Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons is the story of a young white girl, Ellen, who shares her life experiences over the course of two years. In that time, both of Ellen’s parents pass away, she moves multiple times to temporary homes until she finally finds a safe welcoming place in a foster home. Ellen’s story is rich because it is told in first person narrative and the readers are given context not only to what Ellen is experiencing, but context of the environment she is experiencing it in. To better understand and analyze Ellen, we can view Ellen, and everyone and everything in the novel from a biopsychosocial and systems perspective.

At the age of ten, most children are reliant on their parents for everything in their lives needing a great deal of concentration and concern. However, Ellen, the main character and combatant of the novel Ellen Foster, demonstrates a significant amount of self-reliance and mature, impartial thought as a ten-year-old girl. Ellen is a bantling even though she was not deserted, she was impoverished of a normal childhood. Her life as a child was immensely hard, physically and emotionally. She never had a mother or father take care of her through her entire youth. The Lifeboat, by Charlotte Rogan, explains that no matter what challenges life brings, there are always ways to make it through a tough time. The novel tells a story about Grace Winter and her husband, Henry, traveling across the Atlantic in search for a better life in America. When their ship goes down, Henry forces Grace onto a lifeboat with 39 other people. While on the lifeboat, Grace has to go against her morals and kill others in the lifeboat to improve her chances of survival. In The Lifeboat, Rogan uses imagery and Grace’s point of view as she struggles through a difficult period of her life and to show that there is always a way to make it through hard times.

People who enjoy realistic-fiction novels that include sibling rivalry, sports, making life changes, and the tension of a dysfunctional family environment will be interested in reading this journal writing from the first person perspective of Paul Fisher. Based on a true story, the movie Antwone Fisher starts by going through his adulthood suffering from childhood trauma. Antwone Fisher was born in Cleveland Ohio. From the day he was born he was unwanted. He was born in a prison institution, to a single mother. His father was killed by another girlfriend just two months before his birth. His mother showed little to no interest in him, and searches for foster homes for him to live in. He is sent to live with Mrs. Tate family in Glenville, Ohio, and that’s where the nightmare of an upbringing begins filled with constant abuse. Antwone Fisher in my point of view points out realization to the whole adulthood how childhood plays a big role towards the older you. Throughout the essay I will explain why I believe Antwone Fisher is Diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Dyslexia, and childhood trauma through step to-step process of Antwone Fisher abused as a child, sexual, physical, and emotional rollercoaster.
