Just assuming, when most people think of logo design, the image probably goes something like this. A scruffy man, with a graphic T-shirt is sitting in front of a Macintosh computer monitor, with Photoshop open and putting the final touches on the changes of a logo he found in Google images. This scenario, however plausible sounding, is usually incorrect. There are many different and complicated steps that go into creating a logo, and even more steps that go into making a good one. They could fire up their laptop and Google, ‘steps of designing a logo,’ and they would be faced with a promising list of results, where one of the results possibly being, ‘Get Started with Logo Design – Creative Blog.’ On the webpage there is a brief explanation of what a logo is followed by some simple steps and guidelines. There are some helpful tips such as “a logo must be simple, … memorable, … enduring, … versatile, … and appropriate” (Cass), and these are all aspects that graphic designers consider in the first drafts of a logo. However, if the business owner doesn’t understand the reasoning and intentions behind certain decisions that designers make, then it is unlikely that an effective logo will be created. Keeping with the business owner’s journey to create a good logo, the owner would probably unintentionally create a logo that fits in perfectly with the current trend of their culture, but that would be a mistake. The outcome of a company’s popularity relies heavily on how well their logo can stand the test of time. If the logo doesn’t need to be changed every couple of months to keep up with the trends, the easier it will be for the logo to become easily recognizable.
