Walking outside Titus saw the mule standing by the water trough, he already had his bridle on his head, and the blanket across his back, but there was no sign of Hootie. “I wonder where the bird is?’ Titus asked, as the farmer helped him up on the back on the mule. “I am sure he is close by and will join you soon” the farmer said as he patted the mule on his butt to get him started. Leaving the path that led to the farmhouse Titus turned the west on the main road in the direction of the village. Turning his head when he heard a familiar squawk he could see Hootie flying nearby. Twisting his body, so he could see the bird better Titus patted the blanket behind him and called out, “Come on Hootie, let’s go home.” Another squawk and the …show more content…
Lee said, as she crossed her arms across her chest. “It was my pleasure to have you stop to visit and have lunch, and for what you did to the dragon, you will never have to pay for food here." ‘You have done this village a great service, and this is my way of thanking you.” Titus stood facing Mrs. Lee “Your food was delicious.” Bowing in her direction, he said, “Once again, again I thank you.” As he straightened up, he held out his right arm and in his hand was a bouquet of flowers. Exiting his arm toward her, he said, “These are for you." Having a passerby help him get on the mules back Titus turned and patted the blanket behind him. Setting in a nearby tree, Hootie flew down to take his place behind Titus. As they started their journey to the castle people would smile and wave as they rode by. From time to time, someone would make the sound of an owl trying to get the big birds’ attention. Hootie enjoyed the trip and would twist his head from side to side look at the people making noise. . The mule seemed to sense Titus desire to get home because he quickened his pace. It was a slower trot that did not cause the boy or the owl to bounce up and down to the point that they may slide off his back. After traveling for several hours, Titus raised his arm and pointing to the castle just over a kilometer down the road. “There, that will be your new home,” He said, as he patted the mule on the

The night was closing in and I have yet to figure out which path I had come from. I stood at the fork staring blankly at the rusty-colored dirt. My first thought was maybe she was sitting under a tree a few feet away from the road. I looked about for her golden hair to peak through the limbs, but I could see no sign of her. I called her name, and again, no sign. I thought to myself, “perhaps she had gone to look for help at one of the nearby farms,” but that seemed fairly unlikely. My wife was not of Dutch origin, and her tongue for the language was fairly unintelligible.
Will did as suggested, fitting the bedroll into a nice folded padding as Mr. Goodsby kept the wagon rolling over well traveled ruts and dips, eyeing the reins of the mules as pots and pans beat against each other in a steady rhythm with the clopping of the mules’ hooves.
