On August 31, 2015, this investigator was assigned an internal investigation to review the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) domestic violence investigation and arrest of Officer Johnn “Jason” Scott from an August 26, 2015, incident at his house at 6140 S. Franklin Rd. in Marion County. The allegation is Officer Scott strangled Lola “Courtney” Everette during a domestic dispute. The officer’s actions scratched, bruised and caused pain to Ms. Everette’s neck. There were four juveniles (Aubrey Everett – 16, Jason Scott – 17, Bryanna Fields – 8, and Carly Fields – 6) in the house during the altercation. Below is a synopsis of SIU Sergeant John Green’s probable cause that led to three criminal charges filed against Officer Scott. The charges were: Strangulation as a Level 6 Felony; Domestic Battery as a Level 6 Felony; and Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury as a Class A Misdemeanor. On August 26, 2015, at 3:51 a.m., Officer Greg Bowels and Lieutenant Steven Ferklic responded to 6140 S. Franklin Rd. on a report of a domestic disturbance involving IMPD Officer Johnn “Jason” Scott. Officer Scott immediately volunteered a statement to the detective without any questions being asked of him. Officer Scott stated he was lying in his bed asleep in the master bedroom when he heard Ms. Everette arriving home between 3:00 to 3:30 a.m. from Brad’s Brass Flamingo adult entertainment business on Southeastern Ave., where she waitresses. Officer Scott said Ms. Everette was intoxicated when she came into their bedroom. Officer Scott stated Ms. Everette got into the bed and lit a cigarette.
