Crime victims can be defined as people who have suffered physical or emotional harm, property damage, or economic loss because of a crime (Government of Canada, 2016). The individual needs of crime victims are helped by law enforcement through keeping people safe. For example, if an individual’s home is robbed, he or she needs the criminal justice professional to file a report, further investigate, and apprehend the guilty.
Next, an individual need that is addressed by criminal justice professionals are individuals seeking justice. Individuals seeking justice include victims of crime who need representation. For example, if a person’s family member has been murdered, he or she needs criminal justice professionals such as Crime Scene Investigators to find clues from the crime scene to aid in solving the murder and eventually bringing justice to the individual proven

In response to this movement, more support services were established for victims and measures were provided allowing victims greater involvement in the criminal justice process through a variety of means. 1. Purpose: This paper provides information on the Special Victims Counsel Program. This paper describes the intent behind its establishment and the intended outcome of its implementation.
Explain in detail why is it critical to work with the victim to solve a crime? In my opinion, it is critical to work with the victim to solve a crime, more importantly, a particular crime the victim have endured in because they will be able to provide you with a detailed explanation of the situation; the official can receive an understanding of the story which most likely should be the true if coming from the victim. By communicating with the victim officials might receive more information than needed. First off the victim was physically there to experience and deliver the story correctly and honestly; secondly, the victim can help the officials by testifying in court or providing any evidence such as DNA or their offender's semen from sexual
I believe that it is dire for criminal justice professionals to know and understand the history of the field of corrections to promote progressive change and enhancement. It is simply impossible to progress without knowing where the system has failed or faltered. I find this essential in a field that directly influences and affects humans. Professionals in the field of criminal justice are not only responsible for meeting the needs and desires of law-abiding civilians, but they are, more critically, responsible for responding to and reprimanding lawbreakers.
Throughout every state and county across the United States there are various means for offering assistance to victims of crime. Each municipality has its own victim advocacy program. For smaller areas such as rural counties they use the next organizational level up as their victim advocates. For the purpose of this paper I sat down with Ms. Mari Dennis of the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). Ms. Dennis is employed as the Victim Advocacy Unit Coordinator and is embedded within the Investigations division of the department. CSPD employs four staff victim advocates and around 35 volunteer advocates.
All the components of the criminal justice have the same goal in mind: preventing and fighting crime. Preventing and fighting crime also includes providing services for the victims of the crimes. Although the main focus on the criminal justice system is to arrest, prosecute and rehabilitate the criminal, many forget to focus on the victim. The National Organization for Victims Assistance was found in 1975 and is the oldest national group providing assistance to victims of crime and crisis. The Law enforcement community needs to ensure the safety of the victim before, during, and after a conviction. Many times the victims of crimes are forgotten or left out of the notification process when the criminal has been
Criminal justice practitioners are necessary for a civilized society. Without those who form boundaries to our freedom, and the ones that reinforce those laws, our community would be chaos. Some of the main social issues our society faces are drug abuse, gang violence, child abuse, and terrorism. The criminal justice practitioners face these types of issues daily. These professionals must act on the morals and laws stated by society rather than their own opinions, sometimes facing hard decisions. The criminal justice field is always active and busy, dealing with countless amount of criminal activity throughout the country.
Have you ever sat back and thought of the multiple different people that need the criminal justice professionals? A lot of people think that the police, child protection and probation officers are a waste of time but they actually save lives. Adolescents who can no longer live with their parents are placed in others home until it is safe to go back home, homeless people without homes are placed in shelters as well as women that are abused in domestic violence situations. People from every walk of life, race and culture experience these situations. People within the criminal justice profession protect these individuals and help them find a way out of the environment they are in.
I have come to the conclusion after reading this article that the intended audience is anyone involved in the criminal justice system. Police officers, lawyers, judges, probation officers and everyone in between can find use in the article and its comparing and contrasting of the crime control model and due process model.

A criminal defense attorney is a lawyer that is specialized in the defense of those who are charged with criminal conduct. Defense attorneys deal with the surrounding issues of an arrest of their clients, and the substantive issues of a crime that he or she is charged. In the United States, each individual who is brought to trail is eligible for a defense attorney, according to the sixth amendment. If an individual cannot afford an attorney, one is a pointed by the courts; these individuals are called public defenders who are employed by the government. The duties of a defense attorney, is to advocate and advice. In order, for the defense attorney to work effectively, the defendant must supply all the facts and information surrounding the case. Moreover, the defendant is protected by attorney- client privilege. Thus, any exchange information concerning the case is private and protected under the law. The criminal defense attorney role is to assist the courts with the truth-seeking process by presentation an oral argument in favor of defendant innocence. The average case calls to “advocate with courage and devotion and to render effective, quality representation” (Flower, Page 650, paragraph one). The misconceptions of a defense attorney are that she or he performs duties begrudgingly whether or not the attorney believes in the innocents of the client. The writer considers the availability of an exchange of
Like the media, the criminal justice system and organisations in and around the criminal justice system play a major contribution in the construction of an ‘ideal victim’. As stated by ‘….Rock (2006), Institutional practices shape the public representations and private understandings of victims of crime’. For instance, in Australia there are many organisations that help victims and their families of serious crimes. Although on the other hand, there are limited or no services available to victims of minor crimes.
Outline and explain the three key goals victims can pursue through the criminal justice system.
It is through the Criminal Justice System’s close collaborations with like-minded agencies such as the Police, Prison and Courts Services, that the public’s concerns and worries are resolved, in order to bring about justice in our communities (Cavadino and Dignan, 2007 as cited in Fox, 2014). With that in mind and out of the way, this essay will aim to explore some of the strengths and weaknesses, which are prominent within the Criminal Justice System. To do this successfully, the Police and the Courts Service will be the key agencies that will be explored in relation to the key Models that shape the whole Criminal Justice System. These Models were founded by Herbert L. Packer (1968) and Michael King (1981).
