The intended program of study I chose is Criminology, Law, and Justice. Also, I am interested in pursuing a preprofessional study in Pre-Law. I chose this particular major because I am interested in pursuing a career in law. In the future, I would like to become a lawyer, specifically in relationship to civil or human rights, and a major in Criminology, Law, and Justice would be beneficial to that goal. Also, there are certain topics about the criminal justice system that I would like to learn more about, such as race, gender, and socio-economic standing in relationship to biased prosecutions. I think that the Criminology, Law, and Justice major at the University of Illinois at Chicago has certain focuses on those particular topics, or similar
y work and personal experiences have influenced my decision to go back to college and my degree choice greatly. I would like to attain my degree in Criminal Justice to further my goals in the career I have already begun. Having over 8 years of experience in the youth correctional field, I am confident in my decision to further my education in criminal justice. I started working for the Division of Youth Corrections (DYC) in 2007 as an Administrative Assistant and through training and dedication to the victims I served, became a Certified Victim Advocate through the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance. Part of my responsibilities included assisting victims through the critical stages of the adjudication process. I attended court hearings,
Coming into Westfield I was convince that criminal justice was the major for me. Starting off my freshmen year I took an intro to criminal justice class and it was that class that made me realized criminal justice wasn’t for me. Once I dropped criminal justice I became undeclared I kept taking class in different area studies to see if I enjoyed any type of major. It was hard on me at first because I struggled so much trying to find a major that I truly thought was good for me.
The major I will be pursuing is Criminal Justice with Pre-Law classes. My main academic goal is to become the best in my class and to learn complex strategies that the justice field offers. The reason why I want to pursue these academic goals is that I seek change in this world and I believe that I can help make it a better place. I would be able to use these courses to impact other lives. Basically, I want to question the nature of authority and understand who and how someone might be chosen to be in a position of authority. I believe there should always be a system for redress, a way to appeal, within the court
My mother has always asked me what I wanted to be when I get older. For so many years I was not able not able to answer this question. She is not the only one that have asked me this question. I have found that this question has become to be common to many of us. On the other hand, after working for fifteen years as a security officer, I know exactly what I want to do with my life. I want to further my education and skills to pursue my career. I have chosen Criminal Justice as my choice of studies. I have already obtained an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Ashworth University. As a criminal justice and psychology major, my primary experience has involved extensive research related to both fields. During the course of my undergraduate work I spent a good deal of time considering exactly what I wished to do after I received my Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and my Bachelor of Science degree in Justice Studies. Ever since I was a child I have had an interest in law enforcement in some way or another. Having spent a good deal of my childhood fishing and hiking I was always interested in environmental conservation, so with that in mind I always had an interest in becoming a game warden or a forest ranger. As time has gone on I still hold on to the ideas and the ideals that I held when I was younger, but now I also would consider a career in a federal law enforcement organization such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Security Agency (NSA), or the like. Ultimately I
My future career goal is to become a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Bethel University’s Master in Criminal Justice program is a perfect fit for me, as It allows me to continue my education while maintaining a full-time career. I sought a program that was flexible with my shift work, and I was impressed by the accreditations and educational philosophy. The courses offered in this program will help me grow as a professional and advance in my
Receiving a Master’s degree has always been on my list of goals and criminal justice has always been one of my peak interests. I am currently employed as a caseworker at the York County Assistance Office. I have been employed through state for the last three years and recently have been promoted to a caseworker position. While searching for a criminal justice online program, I came across different colleges and universities. Saint Joseph University has become my top pick.
As a child, I always wanted a career enforcing the law. Weather it was with the police department or criminal justice was undecided at that time. As I grew older I pulled more to the fence of criminal justice. Simply because I do not like the way the system is set up.
Before the days when I had a confident mind about what I wanted to achieve in life in order to fulfill lifelong goals, committing to a career in service to criminal justice and law had always intrigued me as a way to earn a living. In high school there was an extracurricular Criminal Justice class that I remember having a profound impact on my life. The lessons of how the structure of the system worked as well as the importance of an honest and honorable way to earn a living played to a keen and personal interest I had in the field. At the time it was a very new post-9/11 world, and departments such as Homeland Security and other federal sectors of government were on my radar as possible outlets for a potential career. The outset of my young,
My interest in criminal justice goes back to when I was child. Growing up in the South Bronx seeing my people getting arrested for petty or serious crime, not only inspire me to help my community but to help make the criminal justice system better for everyone. I know that John Jay College will be the school to enhance my knowledge in justice and crime. I remember taking SAT pre classes in John Jay College when I was I high school. Looking at the classroom seeing the professor engage with the students and the diversity in the student body helped md understand that this is the environment I want to be a part of.
In a study done by Mustaine and Tweksbury (1998), over a thousand college students in criminal justice/sociology courses in
Figuring out why people commit crimes is one of the central concerns of criminology. Do most criminals act rationally after weighing the costs of crime? Is society ever to blame for an individual to commit a crime? Do mental diseases or even genetics factor into whether a person will live a life of crime. Over the years, many people have developed theories to try to answer these questions. In fact, the number of theories of why people commit crimes sometimes seems to equal the number of criminologists. I explore these questions and much more in the paper that follow.
I have a deep desire to understand and relate to the criminal mind. That being said, I dream of getting a Bachelor's or a Master in Criminology to become a criminal profiler or behavior analyst. With the help of the University, I would like to be able to build a profile from physical and behavioral, reconstruct the entire course of the crime, and come up with the best possible explanation from the information I am presented. I believe that the criminology courses and related internships the school provides could help me achieve my long term
