Two Years Are Better than Four by Liz Addison is a fervently written article which argues Perlstien’s apparent bias towards community colleges and the fact that higher education does still matter. According to Addison, community colleges are a public service “gem” (p 257) thriving with successful students of all backgrounds. These scholars are able to experience the beginnings of “an affordable future, accessible hope, and an option to dream” (p 258) through these institutions. Community college is a place for all. Anyone can “pop their head in” (p 256) and will be invited with open arms to discover who they are as an individual and where they would like to go.
