Diagnosis: Clinical manifestations / Signs & Symptoms Linked to THIS PATIENT Clinical Manifestations The diagnosis may be made without recourse to radiographic or laboratory investigations in the at-risk age group with typical symptoms and signs. (8) Initial diagnosis of osteoarthritis was symptom-based. Signs and Symptoms • Pain.(8) • Stiffness especially at rest.(8) • crepitus,(8) • hard or soft swellings on joint (8) Patient has unbearable pain in knee. Difficulty sleeping most likely due to stiffness at rest. . C. Diagnosis: Abnormal results Linked to THIS PATIENT Osteoarthritis can be clinically diagnosed without investigations if a person: • is 45 or over and • has activity-related joint pain and • has either no morning joint-related stiffness or morning stiffness that lasts no longer than 30 minutes.(5) Atypical features, such as a history of trauma may indicate alternative or additional diagnoses. (5) Initial symptom-based diagnosis of osteoarthritis confirmed by MRI scan of knee No additional or alternative diagnoses as atypical features where not present. U&E’s normal Section 2.
