Critical Thinking According to Chen (2009), babies who are kept warm have a higher chance of surviving when born prematurely (1:13). However, there are many areas located in other countries that are not able to supply this type of medical need, which results in the young patients passing away. A case study that was conducted in West Africa involved caregivers who took an inexpensive approach in an attempt to help save the premature babies lives. One method involved swaddling the infants in foil to help them maintain their own body heat, and another method required the aids to provide skin-to-skin contact with the infants (Harris, 2007). As with anything, new procedures that prevent the patient from having to undergo a surgical procedure will allow a patient to heal quicker however, the side effects that may occur many years from now remain unknown. According to Hynynen (2010), A successful treatment results in a non-perfused tissue volume that slowly shrinks, resulting in a decrease in the fibroid volume. Symptom relief was shown to be significant in approximately 80% of the patients in the first studies, with significantly better results in fibroids that received a larger coagulated tissue volume. Unfortunately, this is the sad reality. Having the technology to utilize a 3-D printer to reconstruct a patient’s organ would prevent patients from having to wait for a donor organ. Being able to use the patient’s own cells to build his or her new organ would decrease the chances that the patient’s body will reject it.
