Thinking Critically “What do you think you will learn in this class” is a commonly asked question among teachers. It’s an important question, it helps teachers know what to focus on in class, and what the students are interested in. it’s always been a hard question for me because I used to think “duh, I think I’ll learn about ethics and religious culture, what more do you need?” or something along those lines. But recently I’ve learned the deeper meaning of questions like this. It’s meant to teach kids that their education is in their hands, whether they like it or not. Sure, you have to expect something from your teachers, they have a responsibility to teach you, but you can’t expect them to know what you need. You need to help them
Critical thinking is being able to think clear and rational, having skillful judgement on complex issues, and being able to analyze or evaluate information gathered by using a person’s whole brain. Thinking is being able to take in and process information. Critical thinking helps us understand how others think, learn, act towards other’s etc. “However it is also true that our individual brains td to favor certain types of thinking and learning over others (Abitheira, 2014 p. 2). Critical thinking can be defined in many different ways, and being a problem solver is one definition of critical thinking. Being able to solve problems makes us responsible for our reasoning and critical thinking skills to brainstorm
“Most: Conger (1991) states in many instances an executive will overtly or covertly influence a team’s proposal, perhaps by picking team members whose opinions are already known, making his or her preferences clear in advance, or signaling opinions during the recommendation phase. If that is the case, the decision maker becomes a de facto member of the recommendation team and can no longer judge the quality of the proposal because his or her own biases have influenced it”
In chapter 2 the book takes about how positive emotions can impact positive critical thinking, furthermore positive emotions can also impact relationships and your ability to make reasonable decisions. The chapter also followed up on how negative emotions can lead to negative critical thinking. I agree with this, I've had past experiences were I took a positive approach to the situation and they way I thought affected the situation enormously. In high school my history teacher also told us about how her father had cancer and had at least two years. When he was told that he didn’t take on a negative and sad approach like many people do when they find out something as crucial as having cancer. Unlike others he took on more of a positive approach

Although octogenarian Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of Swedish-based IKEA, is one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, he nonetheless lives quite frugally. Kamprad avoids wearing suits, flies economy class, takes the subway to work, drives a ten-year-old Volvo and frequents inexpensive restaurants. “It has long been rumored in Sweden that when his self-discipline fails and he drinks an overpriced Coke out of a hotel minibar, he will go to a grocery store to buy a replacement.”
In our classroom text, the authors Chaffee, McMahon, and Stout highlight four key factors that we as writers and readers should include in our thoughts. “1. Thinking actively, 2. Thinking independently, 3. Viewing a situation from different perspectives, 4. Supporting diverse perspectives with evidence and reasons” (2008).
You are one of the 4 candidates for the position; and everyone regards a lot from you. So, you must be ready for the speech, and show the knowledge of how the school’s system works. You are walking to the stage and the only thing that came to your brain is What should I say.? This kind of situations required us to be critical thinkers. Many people want a way out of their skin and a way into a new look. The wants of people worldwide varrie and always will be different, depending on the person and their taste. Where there are people worldwide who worry about their complexion and how other people think of them, there are companies worldwide who have a profit to gain. No matter what our make-up might be, we want something better. I can’t stress enough about this subject because I am the same way. I believe there will always be room for improvement. This is something in the human genes that I believe will never change.

Select one of the readings mentioned in the syllabus for the Critical Analysis essay. What is one point the author works to prove in the essay you are analyzing? What does he say to prove his point? Does he use facts, evidence, statistics, graphs, deductive or inductive logic, emotion, satire? (See Chap. 3 of Current Issues or Critical Thinking.) Now make a critical statement: If the author uses facts, does he or she use facts in such a way that he or she convinces his or her audience the author is right? If statistics are used, are they relevant statistics; do they help show the validity of the author’s argument? If deductive logic is used, show that logic and then explain how it does or does not clarify the writer’s argument.
