Besides prosperity, EU citizens reap the benefits of social values, democracy and a healthy environment. The EU strives hard to bring its influence to the rest of the world through investment and trade, by maintaining diplomatic relations and by providing humanitarian aid to many developing countries. EU is one of the major political, economic and diplomatic forces in the world today, with the ability to have a major impact on global affairs.

EUROPEAN UNION INSTITUTIONS

The tasks of EU are managed by a number of key bodies, which include:

Five institutions The European Commission (EU’s executive body) The European Parliament (elected by the citizens of the Member States) The Council of the European Union (representing the governments of the Member States) The European Court of Justice (ensuring compliance with EU law) The European Court of Auditors (ensuring sound and lawful management of the EU budget).

These institutions are advised by the European Council (Heads of State and Government of EU Member States) and assisted by two advisory bodies: The Committee of the Regions (expresses the opinions of regional and local authorities) The European Economic and Social Committee (expresses the opinions of organised civil society on economic and social issues)
