Cube is a Sci-Fi contemporary horror, which depicts a world where a group of individuals who mysteriously awake in a complex cube. In order to escape this massive cube, characters must work together in order to successfully guide themselves through the death defying traps implemented in designated rooms. The characters in the film are decidedly postmodern in the sense that they have no recognizable history amongst each other. Yet, there are several elements of fear highlighted throughout the film, and is specifically noteworthy, because it is one of the few contemporary horror made directly in Canada to this day, and it allows audience to interpret the ending for themselves. Firstly Cube contrast fear through the “physical” aspects of the cube, this includes the cubes structural features, and the characters theories behind who behind it. Additionally on top of the outer findings of the cube, inside the characters struggle to discern the cubes purpose. This leads to an increasing amount of social conflicts, which over time slowly depletes the character's physical well being. Additionally, the level of paranoia bestilled in the characters suggest this notion of “Big Brother”; who may or not be watching them. Furthermore the film implements many thematic elements that lay …show more content…
The cubes are intended to inflict pain on human bodies (state-of-the-art technology used to produce death by brutal scientific means. It’s designed to devoid the traditional architectural elements like doors, windows, and ornaments. Its simplistic appearance, becomes a maze due to its repetitive nature, as well as lack of spatial references. Thus the shape, material, and composition of the cube correspond neatly to the aesthetic parameters of modern architecture. Enormous, repetitive, and constructed material to the exact proportion symbolizing factory efficiency. From the outside, it looks as though the cube is just composed of several black block

The film “Juvies” really made me think about how the criminal justice system treats young children. Before watching the film, I was under the impression that children were treated fairly and with care when they commit a crime. After all, they are just kids. However, to my surprise, this was not the case. Many children have been cheated by the law because they are put through the adult system and are not given a fair trial. Meanwhile, these children are expected to make the rational decisions that an adult would make. There is biological evidence that kids do not have the ability to control impulsive behavior because their brains are underdeveloped. Thus, I believe this system is extremely unfair because children are not protected in adult prisons, which makes it very difficult for them to succeed once they are released back into the free world.
Throughout the film Do the Right Thing, we continuously observe racial conflict that builds up to such an extreme point that it leads to a fight for power. This movie portrays the struggles and realities of a neighborhood with white and black African American people. This can be seen in many instances for example when Buggin ' Out, Radio Raheem, and Smiley march into Sal 's and demand that Sal change the Wall of Fame. Another vital instance shows the height of power struggle. It is when the huge fight starts in the street and results in Raheem being killed by a white police officer.
For the second film assignment, I decided to pick Higher Learning as my movie to analyze. Higher Learning follows the journey of Malik, Kristen, Remy and their group of friends at Columbus University. Malik is an African American student joining on a partial track scholarship, while Kristen is a young lady entering the college from California. Lastly, Remy is a disordered young fellow from Idaho. Each student faces their own individual, political and racial dilemma at the university as the campus life causes problems for everyone.
In the movie Higher Learning many characters face different situations, and the character that appeals to me, or that identify myself as, would be Fudge. The reason why Fudge is because; he encourages his friends to not look at a book for just an assignment, but to look into the book, and learn from it. I read books from time to time, and I read it to analyze its not just for an assignment, and I try to encourage friends to read it. Another Reason why I consider myself to be like Fudge is because, he looks out for his friends or like, he considers it his “homies” I would look out for my friends, and only they earned it I just won’t look out for a friend who fools around all the time. However I’m not fully like Fudge because, he would deal
If I was going to college next year I would want to have a personal class about sports and athletes. The video made Monsters University look like a good college. It looked like the students had a lot of freedom when it came to choosing classes and clubs .I think a lot of people should go here because of they much more choices. You could probably even create your own club if you don’t like the choices
The text, or more so the movie about the text, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, does a good job of portraying race, class and gender. During the setting of the book, many people looked at white Americans to be superior to the Black, African American race. With this being said, the successful white families hired in the African American women to cook, clean, and in most cases, take care of the children. They were known as the help. Throughout both the book and the movie, the African American women experienced many forms of gender, race and class inequality.
Eric’s son plays with Nan’s granddaughter in the yard. Eric and Nan’s son and James are trying to shoot some wild dogs that have been eating James’ elk. Nan is watching the children play from the kitchen window. The film ends with the children playing in the snow over the sound of guns shoots. Their laugher builds over the sound of

The focal point of Old Market Square is “The Cube” which was designed by local architecture firm 5468796 who won an invited competition. The design is a stark contrast from the historic buildings in surrounding the square. The form of it is a 28’ by 28’ cube comprised of a skin made of 20,000 diamond shaped aluminum links all hung from the concrete structure. As shown in the drawing above The Cube was designed as a beacon for the area that contains exhibition and stage space surrounded by a glowing interactive envelope that can be opened when the stage is in
(A) During the encoding face of memory these presentations of products in the movie would only be briefly stored in your short term memory, therefore when you see these images in the store they feel familiar but you cannot recall or fully recognize where the products have been seen before, they just have a feeling of familiarity. Because you didn’t “review” the products that you used in the movie they would not be stored in your long term memory so you forget where you have seen them. This happens because source confusion is more likely to occur the more time passes. Attribution would be involved in your desire to purchase this product because the product feels familiar to you but you cannot fully remember why, tying together cause and effect
Throughout this class, various discussions and blogs have been used to analyze the different elements of films such as theme, cinematic techniques and genre. It is time to bring all of these separate elements together in the analysis of one specific film, according to class text, “analyzing levels of meaning below the surface story can greatly enhance enjoyment as well as understanding of a film” (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2014. p. 10.03). There are several different approaches to film analysis including formalist, auteurist, and generic or any combination thereof. Utilizing a genre theory lens, the 1956 film The Searchers will be analyzed addressing contextual information, story/plot, aesthetic choices, social/personal impact and how these areas come together to develop the film.
Part 1 - In American author's 2009 book, The Help, the primary thesis is the relationship between Black maids and white households in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960s. The story is really told from three perspectives, Aibileen and Minny are Black women, both maids, and Skeeter is the nickname of Eugenia Phelan, daughter of a prominent White family. Skeeter has just finished school and hopes to become a writer. In general, the relationship between the Black maids and the White employers is six sided: On one side we have the White employers who have three views: 1) Their personal and private beliefs that can range from extreme scorn and bias to kindness regarding race; 2) Their public persona that must have the "proper" attitude about Blacks and "the help," and 3) Their employer attitude, which is condescending and parental. The Black view also has three segments: 1) Their personal and private beliefs that usually range from understanding not all Whites are the same and an extreme love and empathy for the White children for whom they care; 2) The public persona that is deferential, polite, and stoic to their White bosses; and 3) Their attitude and view among the Black community, which usually separates the "poor and ignorant but rich" White souls from the Black view of family and common sense. All in all, the relationship is contentious, phony, and based on economic advantage.
