The Kite Runner focuses on the Afghan peoples struggle in recent history through the eyes of Amir, the son of a rich man in Kabul named Baba, the story also focuses on betrayal and cultural assimilation. Khaled Hosseini writes about Amir’s life being born rich in Kabul but being best friends with Hassan, a Hazara, which is an ethnic group that is heavily discriminated against by the ruling Pashtuns. However this friendship is ruined by Amir’s decisions and Hassan and his father Ali decide to move away, this is followed by the Russian invasion of Afghanistan and Amir and his father are forced to move to America where Amir lives the rest of his life until an old friend from Afghanistan calls back in need.
