My family plays an important role in my life. I have a strong relationship with my parents, three sisters, two older brothers and my husband. My younger brother left the home when he was 12 years old and the family has no contact with him. My family strength is our support system and helping each other out. I am an Italian-American, two very distinct cultures that have shaped me throughout my entire life. My father is a full-blooded Italian and my mother is American. They met when my mother moved to Italy for business and about 13 years later I was born and 2 years after me, my brother. We all moved to California in 2001, when I was almost 4 years old, because my mother is from California.

Before referring to the impact of culture on families, I will say that culture is known as knowledge, art, beliefs, law, morals, customs and all habits and skills acquired by man not only in the family but also to be part of a society as a member that is. I’m an Italian. I was not born and raised in New York. The only person that likes pizza in my family is my Irish mother. My entire family doesn’t gather on Sundays and eat a four-course meal—we are lucky to get a home cooked meal on Sundays. The only family that comes over on Sundays is my Irish family.
