Family is “a group of people who are related to each other: a social unit consisting of parents and their children” (merriam-webster.com). My family has had a very positive influence on my development. I was always taught family comes first and my sister was my best friend. I happen to have lived with my extended Italian family for most of my life. When I was younger, my Nana lived with us and after I was married, my parents moved into the in-law apartment in my house. My family was and still is a very important part of my life. We are always there for each other and still are very active in each other’s lives. For me, personally, it is hard to talk about family without mentioning my Italian culture. Being from an all Italian family and since I am only the second generation born in the United States, I am quite certain that culture has had a major effect on my development. …show more content…
I assume, that there were things that happened in our house, that were a direct result of our Italian culture. For instance, I thought all kids lived with one or both of their grandparents, had a giant picture of “The Last Supper” on their dining room wall, and ate meatball sandwiches for lunch instead of peanut butter and jelly. Also, on Sundays, after church, we would come home and make the gravy (sauce) for dinner later that day, with the ENTIRE family, which you were not allowed to miss. As chaotic as dinner would become, with every one talking with their hands and all at once, it was the best part of the week. I would like to think I have done a good job on passing the Italian culture down to my children and hope that it has had a positive effect on their
My family plays an important role in my life. I have a strong relationship with my parents, three sisters, two older brothers and my husband. My younger brother left the home when he was 12 years old and the family has no contact with him. My family strength is our support system and helping each other out. The other systems education, work, social interaction and health are also important in my life.

The world is made up of over one hundred countries. Those countries are what make the world a melting pot of diversity, creativity, productivity, and fun. Of all the countries a person could explore, one would like to present an introduction of Italy. This paper is intended to give the reader insight on the culture, business, and international relations of Italy. Those International relations are specifically in comparison to the United States. Both countries rely on one another. For instance, it is common to see Italians sporting their American made clothing, and it is common to see Americans admiring their Italian made art. Their codependence of one another is
I am an Italian-American, two very distinct cultures that have shaped me throughout my entire life. My father is a full-blooded Italian and my mother is American. They met when my mother moved to Italy for business and about 13 years later I was born and 2 years after me, my brother. We all moved to California in 2001, when I was almost 4 years old, because my mother is from California.
The center of Italian life is encircled around relationships. Italian families widen from aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins. Italian families also form strong friendships with neighbors and people across their community. Italian people do not focus on the factor of being Italian, but more on the further linkage with a hometown due to the merger of Italy throughout history. The north of Italy mainly has a household made up of just the nuclear family with the help of grandparents. The south of Italy has a household made up of the extended family as well as the nuclear. Each Italian family relies on each other for stability in economics, emotions and growth.
Italians take great pride in social interactions. Humor, agreeability, reliability, and success in business and in social life are valued over assertiveness, and health, family, serenity, and financial security are the highest valued attributes to Italians.
A family is seen as a group of people who are biologically or psychologically related. They connect on historical, emotional
Family is a word that cannot be defined by a dictionary but only by the person who experiences their own deeper meaning of the word. My family’s culture is one of many but unique nonetheless. The typical loud mouth Italian family is a stereotype mine fits perfectly, although some stereotypes are perceived negatively some are quite the opposite. My Italian family is based off discipline, respect, and religion, all of which are a popular stereotype I’m all too familiar with. Learning appropriate manners and acting mature was a priority since the youngest age in my family. There were no excuses for childish behavior or any acceptable reason why my chores weren’t done without any punishment involved. This mindset applied to more than just
Ever since I was a little boy, the Italian culture and heritage flourished in my household and me. I was raised in Yonkers, New York, in a city that is filled predominately with Italian - Americans. Every street has an Italian family, an Italian delicatessen, and an Italian based pizzeria. I can just say that I lived in a Little Italia. As an Italian, being able to embrace my culture was my passion. I would have flags from Italy in my room, Italian style music playing on my phone and computer, and every Sunday my entire family and I would have a traditional Sunday dinner, which always featured pasta. Being Italian, I always felt that I needed to make my ancestors proud, I always did everything to the best of my ability because I know that’s
The purpose of this essay is to explain the function of the Italian family. Italian families are the center of all government structures and the major influential to all of the society norms. From religion, family life, and work, the Italian family stabilizes every aspect. In government and business affairs, Italians typically only do business with people that they know or their own family members. In the government, officials are commonly used to the way things are that there is rarely any change to policy because of the “family way of thinking”. “The electorate no longer believes that any of the candidates will make much difference, not least because there will be another election soon enough. Everyone promises reforms and fresh air,
Before referring to the impact of culture on families, I will say that culture is known as knowledge, art, beliefs, law, morals, customs and all habits and skills acquired by man not only in the family but also to be part of a society as a member that is. It is also defined as a set of ideas, behaviors, symbols and social practices learned from generation to generation through life in society. The family is defined as a group of people linked by blood, marriage, or adoption; usually centered on a married couple, their dependents, and relatives. Although there have also been non-traditional families made up of people who are not linked by blood or marriage and are now found more frequently in many regions of the world.
I’m an Italian. I was not born and raised in New York. The only person that likes pizza in my family is my Irish mother. My entire family doesn’t gather on Sundays and eat a four-course meal—we are lucky to get a home cooked meal on Sundays. The only family that comes over on Sundays is my Irish family. I’ve never had a cannoli (I’ve heard they are incredible though)(parenthesis) and Frost Gelato is the closest I’ve come to real gelato. The only word I know in Italian is mangia, which means eat. The closest I’ve come to being in Italy is Little Italy in New York. My definition of quality Italian food is Buca Di Beppo in Gilbert. My definition of a romantic date is a Disney movie and hot wings on a Friday night. I’m an Americanized Italian.
Broadly discussed, Italian culture entails, arts, family issues, food, architecture, and music. Although other ethnicities live in this country, it becomes known that about 96% of Italy is composed of Italians. Most dwell in extended families rather than the nuclear family who are only composed of father, mother, and children. Four of the Italian immigrants that sailed across the Atlantic Ocean from Italy to embark on their journey to America, existed as my great grandparents. Being a full-blooded Italian means that I still have some family members living in Italy. Having the cultural heritage of an Italian has had a huge influence on my life due to the fact that I’ve stayed surrounded by the culture ever since my childhood. Some traditions of a normal Italian family consist of food, rituals, religion, affiliations, and more food.
