This video is about a man named Morgan Spurlock, who spent 30 days on a Native American reservation. The reservation that Spurlock lived on was the biggest Indian reservation called the Navajo Indian reservation. Just before Spurlock got to the reservation his thoughts of how the Navajo people looked and lived were similar to mine. Looking back on all of the images and how the Native American culture is showcased on TV, kind of planted this image in our minds. We both thought that Native Americans wore these huge headpieces made of large colorful feathers, beads, and face paint. The people living in Navajo did not look like that unless preforming some type of ritual.

My parents are the epitome of the classic tourist archetype, and forced my siblings and I on many a road trip in our green minivan at least twice a year during my childhood. I have spent time in forty five of the fifty states, experiencing museums and tourist traps galore, but one of my favorite sites to see as a child was the Crazy Horse monument in the side of South Dakota’s Black Hills. The face of a Native American chief, memorialized in mountainside, is incomplete, but taking shape to pay homage ____. The overwhelming fascination and curiosity with Native American culture has caused a rift between the Native American community and the archaeological community; the paths of tribes and scientists have converged messily in the past century as sacred burial grounds have been transformed into excavation sites. This convergence caused the passing of the Native American Graves and

Native American, or American Indians, have a rich culture comprised of struggle, strife and success. For this paper, i will discuss the Native American Culture and it's history.
Culture, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary is stated as “The integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief and behavior that dpends upon the capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations. The customary beliefs, social forms and material traits of a racial, religious or social group. The set shared attitudes, values, goals and practices that characterizes an institution or organization. The set of values, conventions or social practices associated with a particular field, activity or societal characteristic.” Of these four definitions, I shall be focusing on the second one to discuss what makes up the culture of American Indians. The culture of the various tribes that made up the Native Americans is one of close knit families, highlyspiritual peoples and living together as one with the land they lived on. They believed in spirits, worshiping and honoring them. Some settled into single locations while others were nomadic, but all had a focus on working with the land around them. Because there are so many varying tribes that make up Native
Native American culture originated in some parts North America. These countries are known as the United States of America and some parts of Canada. In the United States, there are 6.6 million Native Americans, which form about 2.0 percent of the population (Bureau, 2016). Europe had realized there were about 50 million people already living the “new world” and these people were called Native Americans. Native Americans were originally called Indians, but later through history they formed a new name. These people were called this because of them being native to the “new world” and the American part came after the colonist named the United States. Throughout history, Native Americans believed that using raw material in nature was the best way to provide for their people. Their culture thought no part of an animal should go to waste. They would eat the meat, use the skin for clothing, and make jewelry from the bones. Over the years a lot of their culture and customs were lost due to conforming with society. Their languages were referred to as “Indigenous Languages” because of them being extremely complicated and diverse. Some important factors that help understand the foundation of Native American culture are their rituals/practices, death ceremonies, holidays, family, and stereotypes.
Native American Culture needs to be portrayed authentically. In order to respect Native American traditions and practices the media needs to provide a sense of teaching through humor and a circular perception of time. In order to do so instead of the classic scene of a Native American dancing around a fire speaking “tanto”, allow for the mocking by an elder of a child who was misbehaving around the fire instead. In many tribes this is how the children are taught what behaviors are acceptable. The problem is as a viewer that kind of reinforcement has never been represented on screen. As Rod Rondeaux said from Reel Injun “we are starting to not recognize ourselves.” The protection of authentic native american traditions through film is not only
This approach can be subdivided into cultural and social aspects that were affected by disease and conquest, and linguistically as impacted by the Spanish inferior influence of conversion. In the field of archaeology, these changes could be seen in pottery styles and technology, which was attributed to the influence made by the Europeans. The abandonment of sites and shifts in settlement patterns were associated with depopulation, which resulted from contact and diseases. The theory that most historians and archaeologist accept is the ethnohistorical approach because it clearly shows the historical archaeology of Native Americans depopulation and must be studied as a form of cultural change. The Spanish affected the native’s socially by kidnapping
You hear yelling, someone shouting for help. Looking around you see many people talking to themselves, many even hurting themselves who are rubbing against each other's sweaty unwashed bodies as they walk by. No room for privacy, no room for living. The attitude towards the mentally has changed drastically throughout the years. Before the asylum movement, many mentally ill were imprisoned with rapists, murders, and many other dangerous criminals. Though the mentally ill did commit horrendous crimes it was because many had a disorder that affects the mood, thinking, and behavior. Consequently, the asylum movement was a big turn in America because it created better opportunities for the mentally ill on getting the attention they sought for.
“My people are few. They resemble the scattering trees of a storm-swept plain...There was a time when our people covered the land as the waves of a wind-ruffled sea cover its shell-paved floor, but that time long since passed away with the greatness of tribes that are now but a mournful memory.,” Chief Seattle Speech of 1854. The culture of the Native American people has been deteriorating ever since the Europeans arrived in the Americas. The impactful and immense loss of lifestyle that they faced is one that can never be recovered, what the United States has given them are generations of trauma and blatant suffering. However, the U.S. did not stop there, a multitude of cultures have been broken to help keep America pure. For instance, one of the most significant cultures that have been dismantled by the U.S. other than the Natives and their music were the languages and music of the African slaves. The apparent likeness of these two cultures in the ways in which their deconstruction impacted them is in more of an abundance, such as the dominating influence of the Christian religion and the gravely vital role of maintaining what little heritage they could through language. In contrast to this, the two groups had an opposing difference pertaining to how the Natives and slaves tried to compensate the immense loss of their culture through the generations.
Culture is the shared values, norms, language, customs and practices of a group. It also refers to different sub-groups within society. It is important to understand how culture affects our behaviour in order to gain a full understanding of the people we encounter and those we work with. Watson found that the average amount of eye contact made varied between countries, with high degrees of eye contact being seen as insolent by some Africans and East Asians, whereas among Indians and Latin-Americans this was seen as desirable.
Have you ever wonder how the world was created from another culture’s perspective? Native Americans used creation myths to explained to their people how the world was developed overtime. Creation myths are a big part of the Native American culture. they have been passed down from generation to generation. In the creation myths, harmony with nature, rituals, and strong social values are shown in each myths. The purpose of having strong social value in these myths is to teach younger Native Americans valuable lesson if they ever do something bad. These myths reveals how the rituals were created and their intentions for doing it. Creation myths has harmony with nature in it to show a very close kinship between them
Cleopatra is said to be the most beautiful woman in the history of human race, who successfully ruled the hearts of the most powerful men during her time. One article states,” Ever since the age of women-worship and chivalry the Egyptian queen has been one of love’s martyrs. She is a good woman to Chaucer and figures in his Legend. Being all save dull and stupid that a loving woman ought not to have been, having loved and been loved until death. That was the medieval cardinal virtue; without in holy writ, it was the saving grace”(Stole). She was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a Greek family of Macedonia origin. She ruled Egypt after Alexander the Great’s death during the Hellenistic period and was the last pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. The Ptolemies spoke Greek throughout their dynasty, and refused to speak Late Egyptian. This is why Greek and Egyptian were used on the official court document, such as the Rosetta Stone. Cleopatra learned to speak Egyptian and represented herself as the reincarnation of the Egyptian goddess Isis. The BBC episode of Cleopatra discusses her time as the Pharaoh of Egypt. It also talks about her relationships with Julius Caesar and later Mark Antony. In this essay, I will discuss Cleopatra’s early life, her complications with her brother and being the last Egyptian Pharaoh as well as the roles of Julius Caesar and Mark Antony during her ruling, and her death.
