Culture Essay There is no specific definition when it comes to the term “culture.” Culture refers to the cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, religion, notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual and group striving. Culture is the sum of total of the learned behavior of a group of people that are generally considered to be the tradition of that people and are transmitted from generation to generation. Culture is a collective programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people

As I began to grow older, and I became more capable of making my own decisions, I kept most of the traditions that my family had passed onto me, but became open to different cultures knowing that being in the health care field, I was going to have to be more accepting of other possibilities and other cultures. Luckily, my family also taught me to be open to other cultures and to not judge people based on their different backgrounds. I believe that any health care provider is going to have to be accepting of other people’s culture and respect their beliefs and traditions when it comes to their health and how it is managed. If health care providers were to only take their culture and beliefs into consideration, the patient’s care become the least important, which in fact, could jeopardize their health, and the level of respect goes down. My views, when it comes to health care, have not necessarily changed, but have led me to become more open to natural remedies, and to not rely on the use of medication. Working in an ER, I see people everyday that cannot live without the use of narcotics, or other types of medication; I try not to judge, but I wonder that if they were brought up the way I was, they would not have to rely on narcotics.
