The rush and bombardment of anticipation and the urge to rebirth and strengthen the colorful culture of the Philippines. Work, work. Please and appeal. Sit still and look pretty for me please. The fear of inaccuracy and miscalculation because disappointment and distaste does not fit the exquisite and alluring faces of my parents. This overwhelming entity should not be the catalyst to my desires, my parent’s expectations, and the world’s binding decree, but it was obligatory, unavoidable, to formulate and forge the almost perfect “me” that everyone wants to visualize and observe. The stereotype of Asian parents has never been so livid and legitimate as it is today. An old generation dies, but a new one arises with much more ferocity and clout than the last. Yes, it's undeniable that all people of all colors have their horrendous and strict confinements in their culture that are quite similar, but the difference is the impact and effectiveness of the rules that differentiate the cultures. If discipline, chastisement and efforts fail to forge the ‘almost perfect image,’ you are looked at as a disgrace and soon following, the corruption of your family's image. The hustle of my parents led to I, the only girl, taking up the position as the ‘second mother’ at the tender age of six. It wasn't a choice, it was expected for the girl to take the position, regardless if she's the youngest or oldest in the family. Cleaning, cooking, folding, babysitting, I was a one-for-all

Cultural Comparison Culture, is known to define a group of people by their language, religion, and their lifestyles; yet, they are learned, shared and adaptive throughout the world (merriam-webster, 2018). For instance, there are many diverse cultures throughout the world, in the Ottoman, Chinese, and Ghana African civilizations there are many similarities and differences. In these early civilizations their cultures were driven by various factors that made up their overall civilization such as their social, cultural, political, economic, diplomatic, and military which all played a very important role in their civilization. Socially, the role of women in societies throughout history of these civilizations held women at a lower standard as

Asians culture has a collectivistic orientation, hierarchical and patriarchal in structure, have a more authoritarian and directive parenting style, do not show emotions in public, believe that the mind and body are connected and the children have immense pressure to succeed academically and in their career (Sue & Sue 2013). Asian families are family orientated, as children are taught to be polite and respectful, to strive toward family goals, and place family needs over individual needs (Sue & Sue2013). Even as adults, Asians are still having to take care of their parents (Sue & Sue2013). Older Asian Americans and males have a higher status in the family, communication is passed down from parent to child and the and males carry the family name (Sue & Sue2013).

For my second culture immersion project I went to eat at a Mexican restaurant. I went with my group members Ryan, Brian and Brian's girlfriend. I went this pass Tuesday after we had our group meeting. I don’t recall the name of the restaurant but I know it was downtown Appleton near by the Walgreens. . This was good choice for the project because I never have eaten at an actually Mexican restaurant before.
Just walking through the courtyard of Brigham Young University, you are surrounded by outstanding, intelligent students who were leaders in their communities and are firm in their faith. Students hail from all four corners of the world from the diverse United States to blissful Asia; yet, only 1.4% of BYU students are of Asian ethnicity. The Asian population may be small at the university; but, Asian stereotypes continue to permeate all forms of media coloring our perception of our classmates from the East. Have you ever wondered why are they so smart at math? How do all of them know how to play the piano? Why does receiving anything less than an A grade brew feelings of failure? Many Asians attribute these stereotypes to their upbringing and parents’ expectations. In The Wall Street Journal article “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior”, Amy Chua presented her viewpoint that the Asian parenting style to raise successful children outranks the Western ideals for parenting. But, are Asians really more superior than Westerners at parenting? Through personal vignettes and poignant diction, Chua builds logos, pathos, and ethos to write a convincing article on how Asian parenting styles are effective. So what is like being an Asian parent?
My cultural background is American, Jewish, Israeli. My grandparents are from Austria and Romania. Times were tough for the Jews living in Europe, so fortunately my father's parents came to America in time for a safe haven, while my mother's parents had to bear the holocaust. After WW2, my grandparents would rotate between living in America and Israel, which is why I was born into a Zionistic and modern orthodox family. Years ago, an American living in Israel lived a pleasant life. I remember them telling me they once got around 100 shekels for the American dollar and now you only get maybe 4. My parents sent me to the Hebrew Academy of New City in order for me to learn American and Jewish values. Even though I was barely exposed to Austrian
In the beginning of the observation I noticed the small food and liquor stands that, thirty people at a time, were gathered around of. The subjects were all socializing with other members of the town like how a Wine Festival normally goes but, I noticed something very odd about this particular festival, live music. At German Festival, such as Wine Festival, there is no music because it causes people not to socialize with each other, which it did. The songs that the local band sang American songs such as, “Dream On” by Aerosmith. I was greatly shocked about the lack of German songs that were sung at this cultural event. My Aunt Manuel was talking to her friend and stated, “Germans are scared to admit they have pride in their country and
Ten-thousand years ago, during a cold and snowy ice age, a land bridge between North America and Siberia arose from the sea's. This land bridge was the beginning of the Native population in the America's. The Natives continued to pour into this empty country for 250 centuries until the ice age came to an end and the bridge fell back into the ocean. Throughout this period of time the travelers continued migrating South and to all parts of North,Central, and South America. The travelers would settle in four main different places. These places would be the most populated and famous in history. The travelers who settled in Peru would be known as the Inca's, and the travelers who settled in Central America would be called
One’s culture shapes their beliefs, values, and goals. Although I am very prideful in my culture, I don’t believe I celebrate it quite like Ola. Two times a year I celebrate being Serbian.“Slava” is a Serbian Orthodox Church tradition involving the ritual glorification of one's family's passed down saint. This holiday involves pouring red wine in the cracks of Serbian bread and slowly turning it around while your family kisses it, as well as a home cooked meal. The next fascinating celebration I participate in is Serb Fest. This is a three-day festival that people come from all around Chicago land to eat Serbian food and dance to our cultures music. Although I feel like a “normal” American the rest of year, I am very prideful of where my ancestors have come from.
