Title: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime Author: Mark Haddon Text Type: Novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time is heartwarming and enlightening murder-mystery novel told in first person narrative by the protagonist, 15 year old Christopher Boone who has Asperger’s syndrome. With a vast knowledge of math’s and science and minimal understanding about other people, he embarks on a journey to discover who murdered his neighbor’s dog and in doing so meets new people, has new experiences and discovers the truth about his own family. I found it interesting how this novel explored the idea of being different and seeing the world differently rather than what its like to live with Asperger’s or other forms of autism. This provided me with an enlightened view to never judge someone else on how they appear just because they are different …show more content…
I was exposed to a unique way of processing thoughts through Christopher “I think prime numbers are like life. They are very logical but you could never work out the rules, even if you spent all your time thinking about them”. This novel showed me that some people just think differently to others and this isn’t enough to cast them out from society and put labels on them. Chirstopher feels that noone can relate to him and these feelings of isolation are shown in his dream where everyone else in the world is dead to him. I found this to be interesting because it contrasts societys idea of people suffering from types of autism to be the isolated ones when in fact it is our lack of understanding that makes people like this pull away and isolate themselves. I have come to realise through this novel to be more accepting and understanding of other peoples thoughts and opinions, and to welcome their differences rather than cause even deeper feelings of
Thesis: Interestingly, Chris puts the practice into action when he embarks on an adventure in spite of his Asperger's.
Viewing this documentary, opinions of this individual with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) did, in fact, change the opinion of who they are. ASD can start from when they were born to a mature adult. This film presented lessons on how families and the individuals have gone through a daily lifestyle. One lesson that shown in the movie is that they understand going on however it may take the time to process through their brains.

Not only does Christopher encounter the stages of pain and hurt, his father goes through the process of contemplating the implications of his lies as well. When the truth comes out, it can unintentionally cause pain, but can create new possibilities and opportunities in life. The text ultimately showcases the process of dealing with the truth and the aftermath of persevering despite the difficulties and complications one encounters.
One night 15 year old Christopher Boone finds his neighbour's dog dead in her front yard. Christopher wonders who killed it, and decides to write a book in which he tries to figure it out, like a murder mystery novel. Although it’s not directly stated, the narrator's text implies that he has an autism spectrum disorder called Asperger’s Syndrome. We can infer this because he displays traits of the disorder. For example, it’s difficult for him to understand social norms like body language and other forms of human interaction. He is, however, tremendously good at math and more logic-based skills. Christopher is an unreliable narrator because he has an extremely skewed and biased perspective cannot communicate properly and is only capable of extremely limited emotional interactions.
Every individual faces obstacles that are necessary to overcome, whether it be for equity, justice or honesty. However, one of these sources is directed more towards readers with Asperger’s syndrome. The other two pieces are more directed towards parents of children affected by autism. In Robison’s memoir, he strives to teach those with Asperger’s how to make their way through the maze called everyday life. “I hope readers- especially those who are struggling to grow up or live with Asperger’s- will see that the twists and turns and unconventional choices I made led to a pretty good life, and will learn from my story,” (Robison 5). Throughout his story, he speaks through the pages and connects with his readers. In contrast, Cukavac’s article reaches out to parents and reassures them with the positives symptoms of autism. The author informs readers about advanced skills that people with Asperger’s develop in science, music, and art. Similarly, the medical encyclopedia has information regarding Asperger’s that is aimed mainly at parents. The article explains behavior difficulties in children with Asperger’s and programs that are available. It educates parents with the correct information to make the best decision for their
It is okay to abuse your kid if they have autism because they need to learn how to behave and act normal. Often parents will think this and callously discipline their kid due to the fact they just want them to be normal. Frustration and stress can lead them to going over the edge and start an abusive cycle with their child. This cycle can have a drastic effect on the child and usually just escalate and make the situation worse. Discipline is usually not the answer when dealing with a child on the autistic spectrum, love and encouragement can be bigger motivators for making the child behave. Children with autism often take abuse from people as a result of the their social awkwardness.
