To begin with, her own brother turns on her by making that post which overall creates the drama in the first place. This puts a strain on their relationship, as well the mothers. The mother is kept in the dark about what her daughter is going through. Taylor rather hide what was happening and pretend everything is fine just so that she could keep her computer and know what everyone was saying about her. When she needed her friends the most that’s when they turned on her. They didn’t want to be associated with the outcast. The one friend is even the one who created the fake profile as James, and created the rumor the two had slept together just to hurt Taylor even more. And to impact her relationship status, the boy she had a crush on and was going to the school dance with, change his mind and said they could no longer go together. No one wants to be friends with the outcast, so he moved on. Basically, because of the media site Taylor didn’t want to delete she suffered from the loss of family and especially friends and

Taylor took her car and promised herself that she would drive as far west until her car broke down and this is where she would stay. Taylor set out on her journey as an immature young girl who had never experienced hardships, had never worried about the well-being of others, and had never experienced life outside of the walls of Kentucky. As Taylor was driving west a woman came to her and told Taylor to take this baby with her. Taylor reluctantly agreed and brought the baby, whom she named Turtle, on her journey with her. From that point on Taylor realizes that it was not just her anymore, she was now responsible for another human life.
A lot of it has to do with her urge to accomplish her goals. At the pep rally when Melinda was confronted by the other girls, Heather did not defend her.“For a minute, she looks like she’ll defend me. No, no, she won’t. It might interfere with her Plan.” (p.28) A good friend would stick up for their friends when everyone else turned against them. But Heather decided to not get involved with the event at the pep rally because she did not want to make it harder for herself to fit in. When Heather was having trouble with “The Marthas”, she said, “I was going to ask you to help, then say I did it by myself...” (p.80) Heather said that she considered taking the credit for herself even when she didn’t do anything just to make the other girls like her. When Heather said she didn’t want to be friends with Melinda anymore, Melinda’ reaction was, “I was the only person who talked to you on the first day of school, and now you’re blowing me off because I am a little depressed?” (p.106) Melinda, given that she is so quiet stood up to Heather because she was leaving the first person she was friends with at Merryweather, to join the most popular group in school. Even Melinda thought that was pretty harsh. Given that she has so much purpose, she will stop at nothing to get what she
Because Jared?s father walked out on the family it has always been Jared and Dianne, before the party they seemed relatively close enough, but after the incident Jared couldn?t care less about anyone especially Dianne. This was so obvious when Jared wouldn?t even give her the time to let her tell him that she had breast cancer, not even a week before the operation to have her breast removed! Dianne tries to talk to him on many occasions but Jared always has more important stuff to do than to listen to his mum tell him she might die. And because she wanted Jared to know first she couldn?t tell anyone else til he knew, so when the girls wanted to go out they couldn?t understand what Dianne ment when she said she didn?t want to go she ?had some stuff happening?, ?im not in much of a party mood? and ?I?ve got worries of my own?. This makes it really tough for Dianne, all because Jared was too busy with himself, he was too selfish to see that other people had problems too.
By fighting to save the most important part of her life, Taylor shows that she has realized what is truly important. When she decides not to discuss Turtle’s future in front of her, as though she simply property, Taylor’s renewed belief in small acts of kindness and the effect they can have on people, is shown. Once more, she knows that even small acts of compassion can have large impacts on the lives of others. The effects of Taylor’s epiphany are illustrated again when she agrees to drive Estevan and Esperanza to Oklahoma. Even though she does not want Estevan to leave, Taylor drives him and Esperanza to Oklahoma, risking fines and jail time in the process. When Mattie warns Taylor of the dangers of her plan, Taylor says, “Just stop it, okay? Estevan and Esperanza are my friends. And, even if they weren’t, I can’t see why I shouldn’t do this.” By saying this, Taylor’s belief in the importance of doing the right thing, even when it is dangerous, is displayed. Taylor’s morals have been transformed: bravery and integrity are now more important to her than safety and realism. She no longer withdraws from her friends and loved ones like she did after
