In the earliest centuries of art entertainment, music was considered an expensive form of art exclusively for the upper class. As the art progressed, materials that were used for centuries in other ways became common in the musical profession. From the beginning of time to modern day music, the cymbal has progressed and improved to become one of the most versatile yet simplest instruments in any band. The progress of cymbals lies in part in the hands of those who create it as well as the materials and techniques they choose to make it. The cymbal as the world knows it today began thousands of years ago with multiple different uses and has evolved into its own art form mastered by few to invent thousands of cymbals seen in multiple music scenes across the world.
The cymbal, a common percussion instrument, varies both in style and use simply by how it is constructed and the materials used to construct it. While the common person would easily mistake a cymbal to be a very simplistic and elementary instrument of the percussion family, a cymbal’s size, weight, and even indention pattern can impact not only the type of cymbal, but also the sound it creates.
