Outcome 1 - Understand how to plan and provide environments and services that support children and young people’s health and safety
These are the following principles to consider when you are planning safe environments or activities with children. Most of them are just plain common sense, just remember though everyone is an individual and may have particular needs.

The Internet is a very good source of information, with sites that are specific to children and young people. I have already covered and explained how current H&S legislation, policies and procedures are implemented in our setting in previous units, so I will briefly run through them in bullet points: 1. The Health & Safety at Work Act, 2 parts: Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 2. COSSH – Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1994 3. Accidents – Accident books etc 4. Risk Assessment – 5. Good Hygiene Practice – 6. Security 7. Regulations covering manual handling and risks associated with lifting and carrying children
Outcome 2 - Be able to recognise and manage risks to health, safety and security in a work setting or off
