World War II, also called Second World War, a conflict that involved virtually every part of the world during the years 1939–45. It was the most global war in history; it directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. Canada was one of the many countries that were involved in World War II. They were involved in an event like the Battle of Dunkirk and the battle of the Atlantic that impacted other countries. In Canada event like the D-Day through militarism, The of the Scheldt through Canada efforts and the War Measures Act to try and protect their citizens. These three events impacted Canada.

“D-Day”, is considered one of the most significant battles of World War ll. D-Day is also known as the “Battle of Normandy”, or, “Operation Overlord”. The Battle of Normandy began in June 1944, and ended around August 1944. By the end of the war around August 1944, all of France had been cleared of Nazi forces. D-Day is considered a huge factor with the end of World War II and the Nazi Party due them having to push out of France and back into their initial land of Germany. Later on as the Nazi Party was pushed back into Germany, more allied forces collaborated to officially wipe out the Nazi Party in Germany. D-Day was initialized as it was approved by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. After the approval of the general, troops landed on the French coasts to neutralize the Nazi Party and to recover the land.

The invasion of Normandy, also known as Operation Overlord or D-Day, was perhaps one of the most important battles in the human history. The invasion took place on June 4, 1944, at the Coast of Normandy in France. Troops from over twelve countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America participated in the fight against Germany. Although the battles were enduring and hard-fought, the Allies achieved the final victory; the Allies were finally able to set their feet on the European soil again. The Allied invasion of Normandy was a major turning point of the war that led to the ultimate liberation of Europe from the Nazi forces.

Initially, Canada would have preferred to keep itself away from other countries’ affairs. Canadians still remembered the horrors of WWI and did not want to risk their lives for the sake of other nations. Things took a turn later on however, on September 10th, 1939, Canada officially declared war on Germany under the decision of the Canadian Parliament. Throughout the war, Canada had a great amount of contributions - both on the battlefield and homefront, and it is an undeniable fact that the battles would have turned out differently without Canada’s help and support.
One of the reasons that the battle of Dieppe was a defining moment, as it showcased Canada's commitment to the war. Canadian soldiers were in England waiting for their next mission to contribute to the war after a period of inactivity and Winston Churchill, the prime minister of Britain committed the Canadian troops to lead this particular invasion. In World War II we could notice how Canada began to shape itself as an independent country. Therefore, World War II had a positive impact on Canada due to the political policies, military policies and battles, and additionally social policies. The political policies were effected positively due to Clarence Decatur Howe war economy along with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Military policies and battles were issued positively because of the Canadians at D-day including the Italian Campaign. Lastly the social policies were impacted in a positive way as a result of the women in the armed forces, furthermore the women in the home front.

The reason the French attacked the Nazi Germans on the 50 mile stretch on the coast of Normandy was because the Germans invaded and occupied the French in May of 1940. The beginning of D Day which was in 1942, the French were planning an attack on the Germans. By November 1943 Adolf Hitler knew about the attack on France's northern coast, but he nor the Germans knew exactly where the attack would be.
