DACA is deferred action for childhood arrivals, it’s relief from deportations and work authorizations which is renewed every two years for those brought to America as children illegally. DACA recipients are often called, “dreamers”. Those who fail are eligible for deportation. Trump ended the DACA program leaving millions of undocumented people to lose their privilege in working and going to college to end up deported. Recently in the U.S., President Trump and his administration announced plans that could lead to end of the DACA Program. As part of the wind-down, no new DACA applications will be accepted. Those currently enrolled in DACA can continue working legally until their permits expire. Senior officials said they don’t plan to share …show more content…
Immigration hardliners in Trump’s administration said DACA was illegal. They, including Sessions, urged him to end the program. Some other advisers, including chief of staff John Kelly, reportedly did not want him to terminate DACA. Many GOP congressional leaders signaled to Trump not to end the program either. There’s a proposal in Congress to provisionally protect dreamers. Sessions said DACA’s wind down gives Congress time to address dreamers’ immigration status.
It was his decision to announce, on September 5, that his administration would be winding down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, a program he didn’t mention outright, that many people didn’t know about and even fewer understood. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, which has protected nearly 800,000 young adult unauthorized immigrants from deportation and allowed them to work legally since 2012. The immigrants protected through DACA grew up in the US; people might not assume they are unauthorized immigrants, and they might not have even known it themselves until they were teenagers. The program was supposed to give them a chance to build a life here. Now, DACA is on the chopping block. Trump, under pressure to make a decision about it’s future before September 5 (the day a group of Republican state officials were set to sue over its constitutionality), has decided that no one new will be protected under the program and that those currently covered will start to lose
Besides deferring deportation, DACA provides the holders or “Dreamers” to work and study the United States legally. Those who are eligible for DACA, are not able to take any federal funds, in contrast, they are obligated to pay taxes and provide the United States with their services through profit. Since Donald Trump has shown to be very Anti-immigrant, his decision to end DACA is purely based on his political and personal values, leading to believe he will not approve anything that improves the conditions of immigrants like Bill 3923, regardless of its costs or profits for the United States.
On September 5, 2017, Michael D. Shear and Julie Hirschfeld Davis wrote the article, Trump Moves to End DACA and Calls on Congress to Act. On this day, President Donald Trump said that he would be putting an end to the DACA Program that was created during Barack Obama’s Presidency. President Trump is now discussing the issue of revoking DACA due to his early comments in the election about immigration laws, “The announcement was an effort by Mr. Trump to honor the law-and-order message of his campaign, which included a repeated pledge to end Mr. Obama’s immigration policy, while seeking to avoid the emotionally charged and politically perilous consequences of targeting a sympathetic group
To keep with being an educated citizen of the United States, I did some research so I could properly inform myself on the issues with DACA, or the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals”. I had no idea what this program was before writing this reflection. DACA was put into place by former President Barack Obama through an executive order. It provides young immigrants, those who came to the United States as minors, with protection from immediate deportation. It has been available for any immigrant minors under sixteen years of age for nearly ten years. Each two-year period can be renewed. Those who receive support from DACA cannot have a criminal record, according to an article from Fox News. DACA is a support program for young immigrants, also called DREAMers, in the United States.
DACA is an acronym for Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals and it allows the children of undocumented immigrants to attend school and work in the United States while Congress gets its act together to reform our dysfunctional immigration system. But DACA stands for
Daca enables young people to follow their dreams and with trump trying to cancel daca it has devastated the nation, yet he says we have 6 months till Congress makes a decision on either to legalize Daca, or to cancel it , it should not have to be a decision to make.So many children and teenagers are getting their lives torn apart, all accomplishments and achievements, all their effort they put into their lives, jobs and education, would be for nothing. He's taking jobs and educational opportunities away from innocent people who are the ones that are “making america great” again, then the ones that are living in america, not even taking advantage of the opportunities they are given in this country. Most teens who do have the opportunity to get a good education and a good job, usually end up taking it for granted, they don't appreciate what they have, and don't see what others would do to have what they have.
Everyday on the news you hear a new topic that refers to something President Trump wants to do, has done, or is doing at the moment. Half of the country seems to either be with or against him on choices he makes or the way he addresses things. One topic that is being discussed and talked about greatly is DACA. DACA was a policy made by Barack Obama back in 2012 to provide temporary protection to illegal immigrants, primarily focused on children. DACA means “deferred action for childhood arrivals” and it provides the option for a renewable 2 year period of deferred action of deportation. This gives eligibility for a work permit in the states. The united states president, Donald Trump, wants to terminate this policy.
On September 5th 2017, the current president of the United States of America, Donald Trump destroyed the lives of a generation of immigrants by deciding to put an end to DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). DACA is an American immigration policy that allows some individuals who entered the country as
President Donald Trump has stated that DACA is being eliminated because it is unconstitutional. Grizzlies who are DACA are afraid that going to college will cease to be an option since most do not have money to pay for college themselves.
Immigrants within the DACA program do pay taxes, the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy estimates the amount paid in taxes by immigrants to be around 2 billion dollars. Being in the DACA program also does not qualify this group of people for the same benefits as citizens. For example, DACA recipients do not qualify for Medicaid or the Affordable Care Act. There should not be worry about the participants benefiting from the U.S. without giving to society. The concerns about crime and violence coming with the recipients of DACA are wrong because the regulations and checks each recipient must follow. Referring to the previous sections where I discussed the regulations, each immigrant wishing to benefit from the program must prove
According to CNN, on September 5, US Attorney General Jefferson Sessions gradually terminated Mr. Obama’s policy of “Dreamers”, which is DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and will be completely terminated in six months. This policy was introduced in 2012 to allow illegal immigrants who, under 16 years old enter the United States to apply for two-year repatriation and to allow them to apply for a work permit. As this policy allows renewal, it essentially allows illegal immigrant children to live permanently in the US. Based on DACA benefits for thousands of children, I think the government should keep DACA because terminating the policy and evading nearly a million young people who come to
The DACA program is a policy, which is abbreviated for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. DACA is administrative relief from deportation. The purpose of the act is to protect eligible immigrant youth who came to the United States as children from deportation. The Deferred act gives young undocumented immigrants a work permit and protection from deportation. DACA increased the wages and labor force participation of DACA eligible immigrants.
About 400,000 illegal immigrants come to the United States each year, each one with their own story and reasons. These illegal immigrants often have sorrowful stories that make you want to sympathize with them, but these immigrants never think about how their presence affects the United States. On September 5th, “President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the end of the DACA program; they contended that undocumented immigrants took economic opportunities away from citizens and lawful permanent residents” (DREAM). The DACA program was created in 2012 by President Obama and allowed illegal immigrants to stay in the United States. Recently, President Trump ended the program, but gave Congress a window to formulate a better plan
Trumps decision to end DACA was based that his administration was being threatened by states like Texas, Arkansas, West Virginia and Kanas, that they will sue if they do not take steps to end the DACA program by September of this year. If we look at how many people will affected by this which is 800,000 young adults. These people will be in threat of being deported to a country where they have never been to. Majority of these kids have been here since they were new born to toddlers. They don’t see what kind of damage they will be causing not only to them but also the
On June 15, 2012, President Barak Obama gave a brief speech on a new Department of Homeland Security Immigration policy. This new policy will benefit thousands of undocumented students living here in the United States that were brought by their parents since they were young children from their native home. A policy called the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. As President Obama mentioned in his speech about what undocumented students are, he mentioned part of a sentence that got to me. President Obama stated the following, “They are Americans in their
On June 15, 2012 President Obama put in an executive order called DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) which cancelled or delayed any form of punishment to these migrants from deportation of their children if their
