The ancient Greeks lived in the dry, hot mountainous land of what is modern day Italy. The lack of science and technology of the time caused them to believe the gods were responsible for everything around them.In document 2 states,”According to ancient greeks, their gods controlled every part of daily life--the weather, crops, love, money and business, phases of the moon, earthquakes, and even weather a loaf of bread burned in the oven.” So was this more helpful or hurtful? The Greeks not only lived a mountainous area but also an extremely unstable and very volcanic area. Many city states could be destroyed in a moments notice. Document 3 states that,”This got the Greeks interested in a particular kind of religion called oracles. Oracles are

Ancient Athens (800 B.C. - 300 B.C.) is not a democracy. A democracy is a government controlled by the population, whereas the Athenian government was being controlled by only male citizens. According to Doc D, the ancient Athens were in fact an oligarchy, a government ruled by male citizens. The majority of the population does not vote in the Athenian politics.
The ancient Greeks thought the gods affected everything. They believed that Mount Olympus was where the gods lived, earthquakes were a message from the gods, and their first olive tree was a gift from Athena. Mount Olympus was assumed to be home to the gods because the mountain rises 9,570 feet in the air. The entrance to Olympus was a “...great gate of clouds, kept by the Seasons.” (Document 2) Another important geographic feature the Greeks made into a religious belief was the landscape and environment. Greece is “...smack-dab in the middle of a very active volcanic zone,” (Document 3) so the Greeks formed a religion called oracles, and the belief was “Oracles are the gods speaking to people, often in the form of minor earthquakes,” (Document
During the Greek Golden Age, 500-300 BCE, many aspects of Greek life flourished. New ideologies and standards began to emerge and then be utilized as a stepping stone for the future ideas to come. This time period produced new discoveries in philosophy, geometry, architecture and medicinal science. These new discoveries had a huge impact on the civilizations to come and they are still seen in modern life. The ancient Greek philosophers’ practices are what today's education systems utilize, ancient Greek architecture can be seen in many important buildings all over the world and the mathematicians of Ancient Greece proved new theories that future mathematicians then developed even further.
This paper will compare and contrast these two civilizations concerning two of the major elements of society: government and religion. These two areas are important when examining the impact of a particular civilization, because they provide two different perspectives on a particular culture. While the examination of politics allows the power and influence of culture to be understood, the analysis of religion allows the cultural influence of people to be traced. The Oxford English Dictionary defines peace as, “Freedom from disturbance: Tranquility.” The Greeks have not always felt peace and or stableness in their homeland. They had some ups and downs with the land, but they never once gave up on it. They fought through the struggles and ended up making their lands a permanent home. Greece’s geography had both positive and negative effects on their original settlements.
Another difference that they had was their access to resources. At the time, resources defined whether or not a civilization was capable of supporting life. In times like these, if a civilization didn’t have enough resources, they immediately suffered and failed. Greece was unable to grow their own crops due to the fact that they were so far inland. The islands near Greece had fertile lands and they were capable of growing plants. As for Persia, they were also unable to grow crops because such a large part of Persia was a desert. Due to the lack of precipitation, Persia had to create irrigation systems that were capable of providing water for such a large amount of people. Greece had to rely on trade from the nearby islands.Since the distance

The Greeks and easterners made notable accomplishments during this period of experiments, novelties and individualism which influenced the Roman culture.
