Abstract
Although I have always liked to use authentic materials in class, I had never had the opportunity to make a survey and find out if there were real benefits in the ESL classroom. This research was aimed to find out how learners accept authentic materials and the benefits obtained in their learning process. The results of the investigation

All these strategies gives all students an equal opportunity to practice English, participation and involvement. ELLs students when it’s time to read or participate in class they may be reluctant to speak because of their lack of proficiency in English or feel uncomfortable in an environment where they have to share their ideas. ESL teachers must provide a positive and supportive environment that offers significant influence on student comfort level, success and participation that requiring ELLs to use the language in front of class without force them
ELL continue to rise year after year. In EDUC 628, the class delved into the rise of ELL in America and how the best teaching methods to approach each learner with. Every ELL student is unique and has different learning process. Although the semester covered a wide variety of topics ranging from dialects to teaching methods, every module served its purpose in providing a framework for future ELL teachers. Learning about how to teach ELL was significant to me because when I first entered the school system in America, I was placed into ESL and I have gone through the process of many of these teaching methods. EDUC 628 main focus was preparing students whose goal in the future was to educate ELL. The articles and readings assigned in the class provided a funds of knowledge going into each new lesson. Coupled with the readings, hands on activities such as the mini lessons and designing lesson plans provided each student with experience that will reflect on their teaching abilities in the classroom. In my paper, I will be provided a step by step synthesis of what was learned and accomplished every week along with a brief summary of the readings. I will probe deeper into the modules and lessons that piqued my interest the most and that also challenge my mindset.
Reflecting back on my field experience, I was able to gain quality insight as well as a better understanding of the teaching and the learning process of ESOL in a mainstream classroom. My experience in Mrs. Little’s classroom has shown that the role of the ESOL teacher is to educate students in functional language skills, offer content that is academically challenging, and helps students acculturate to the new language and culture.
S. school system despite speaking, reading and writing English. The classroom environment was foreign. Not only did I need to learn academic content, I had to learn the cultural nuances as well. I remember feeling overwhelmed and sometimes overburdened. The use of pictures, artifacts, diagrams and video clips during lessons help to some extent, even so, the study “suggests three ways that teachers can enhance knowledge construction of ELL students: (1) Teachers should take time to understand the cultures of their ELL students, (2) Teachers should be open to new possibilities of meaning, and (3) Teachers should take time to listen to the storylines each ELL student brings into the classroom learning environment” (Strickland, 2012, pp.
In 1995 Barack Obama released his emotional memoir, Dreams of My Father. The novel reveals profound stories on how the current U.S. President faced endeavors in order to acknowledge and comprehend the efforts that structured the man he is today; a man who is the son of an African American male and the son of a white American mother. The death of his father elicited recollection, thus motivating the powerful journey toward the truth about his father and for a feasible significance in his life as an African American male.
Within this paper we will take a brief look at the Language Acquisition Principles and how they work on the behalf of ELL students. We will see how these principles can be applied within our own learning environment. There is much information from Walqui article that gives a brief overview of ELL students and how things looked in the past for these students. Now that times has change we will see how educators can make the requirements for ELL students better and more effective for teacher and students. Hopefully, as we look at ways of changing learning for our ELL students we must remember that every student learns differently. Even if you follow the principles from
In the beginning, my thesis was about to compare both tyrants, but you advised me to add David Irving in my thesis to disprove his assumptions. Then, I added it into my thesis, too. Now, if it looks irrelevant, let me change it? Otherwise, I would like to show that the discrimination of one care or religion is not limited to a leader, and people and even scholars support their ideas, after even the leaders died.
I will say that this is the cleverest diction that I ever hear. It is very accurate to say that reading to write a dissertation is a hardest thing. At the beginning of my doctoral journey, I quickly understand that I need to be able to produce a dissertation free of errors. This evidence put me in the situation where I have to master my grammar skills, my sentence structures, my English vocabulary and my spelling. In addition, I have to be able to avoid plagiarisms, use voices and tone that are proper to doctoral level writing. I also need to use proper citations and references. In brief, I need to be able to identify and create a unique academic English writing style that follows accepted norms and languages at the doctoral level. The work
When she was in her young age living with her grandfather and her cousin. Every day she would get up and work for her grandfather and at the end of the day she would go play with her cousins. Then Henrietta and her cousin came to a liking with each other. I have been raised to know that having a liking for your family member is just wrong and you should not do it. So I feel that Henrietta should fall in love with someone who is not related to her.
This program is designed for the unit of HSC English Standard which aims to develop students understanding, competency and appreciation of the English language. In studying this unit, students will be provided with the opportunity to explore various textual forms so as to become reflective, insightful and effective communicators in an ever-changing society. It is becoming apparent that our classes are now more culturally diverse, thus our teaching practices should reflect those changes. The demographics of this English class is made of up 24 male students of mixed academic abilities from multicultural backgrounds. It is single-sex public system school, located in Western Sydney. This has influenced the selection of texts, supplementary content
The five-paragraph essay Main article: Five paragraph essay Some students' first exposure to the genre is the five paragraph essay, a highly structured form requiring an introduction presenting the thesis statement; three body paragraphs, each of which presents an idea to support the thesis together with supporting evidence and quotations; and a conclusion, which restates the thesis and summarizes the supporting points. The use of this format is controversial. Proponents argue that it teaches students how to organize their thoughts clearly in writing; opponents characterize its structure as rigid and repetitive. [edit] Academic essays Longer academic essays (often with a word limit of between 2,000 and 5,000 words) are often more
The professional development of a teacher can be a challenging task yet not impossible. During the process of this course I have learned how to face this challenge. However developing my own ideas and style of language teaching is still a work in progress. As a prospective language teacher I take in all methods and principles this course as given me. In doing so I believe it will make me a better professional. This course has presented me with some thoughts ELT teachers need to have once the period of formal training is over.
The previous paragraphs have discussed differences in role which were shown to be ones of emphasis rather than approach or exigency. However, and here I wish to move to the EAP context, there are certainly distinct differences between the roles of General English and EAP teachers when it comes to their place in an institution. While it is true to say that in the wider societal scheme of things it is very rare for any teacher to be accorded due respect, it is the case that an EAP teacher will have to strive more strenuously to negotiate a position conducive to effective work. Tim Johns adduces five common complaints : “low priority in timetabling; lack of personal/professional contact with subject teachers; lower status/grade than subject teachers; isolation from other teachers of English doing similar work; lack of respect from students.”
Development of an individual economy passes through different economic phases. Sometimes it is booming and sometimes it suffers from recession. This phenomenon can be viewed as projection of consumption and investment strategies of the individuals and the government of the country. Interest rate, being a major factor of economics, plays a great role in economic activities carried out by nation and the nationalities. A change in interest rates may affect other factors of the economy. For instance, investment strategies of the investors, consumption strategies of the individuals, foreign exchange, imports, exports etc. are affected by the interest rates. An increase in interest rates may decrease the investment, decrease the
