Personal Log Entry: 2920 - Gemma Roberts, Chief Engineer for the City of Daedalus “It was an ass-kicking Venusian storm that snapped one of our city’s anchoring tethers; a tether that keeps our floating city from drifting away. I immediately sent my COGS down to the surface to make repairs. The planet’s surface temperature at the time was 462 degrees Celsius and pressure at that altitude, 90 atmospheres; that gave my COGS about seven hours before being crushed. And this gave me just enough time to calibrate the city’s massive Stirling engines. My engine readings revealed that power output was below 100%, so the loss was possibly dew to the city’s drift. These engines can generate a googol-joule of energy, and the excess we beam to an array

Plants are important and critical facets of our environment that provide us with cleaner air, water, food and other resources. The ability to increase height growth of various kinds of plants, economically and simply, could be beneficial to everyone. Based on prior research and past evidence, sounds play a role in plant development and how they respond speaks volumes about what plants may possibly be able to hear or sense about the environment around them. From previous studies, plants responded to a range of sounds that included catepillars chewing and flowing water. The response observed was that plants were able to hear or sense
Before I red the nutrtion chapter, specifically the MyPyramid section, I never payed much attention to the food pryamid. I was not aware as to how in depth the illistration was. I believe the pryamid is a great outine for a healthy diet. If people need guidance as to how to lead a healthier lifestyle, the pryamid is the perfect example. It not only explains how much of each food group you should eat, but also explains excercising, which I believe is just as important. Although I do think the pryamid is a good guide for people who may not know a lot about diets, I tend to eat more proteins and fruits than reccomended. As an athlete I find I need more proteins to keep my energy level high. I also drink a lot of water.

I wanted to know if women in other countries have the same benefits that women here in the United States have in education, I have found a news article online that 100 Women: The jobs Chinese girls just can’t do. That in other countries have more women entering university than men. In China, the possibility that young girls can’t or shouldn’t do the same jobs as boys is passed on early. It’s a lesson that extends into university and beyond. The China Mining and Technology University is one of the China’s so-called “green card majors,” to be able to come to America, but the program has one clear entrance requirement; men only. Even the China’s education ministry bans girls from studying a variety of subjects across
Carnival Cruise Line is one of the best cruise brands, but one of its ship faced severe voyage challenge due to the fire on its largest vessel splendor weigh 113,000 ton and 952 feet long. On the early morning, November 8, 2010, thick smoke and smell was reported by the ship crews and the guests, later on inspection, the smell was reported to come from the engine room, the most-critical part for any ship. The fire accompanied with electrical failure, and all other contingency arrangements catastrophically failed, and that resulted in complete blackout in the ship. The probable cause of the fire was ignition in the diesel generator, which spread. Usually the seizure of one engine does not result in complete disability of ship propulsion; however, this incident resulted in overall failure of propulsion and movement in the ship when the ship was 200 miles away from the coast of San Diego, dead in the water.

This recipe, like many of those found in The Book of Apicius, is vague because it does not describe in detail how this dish is prepared, nor does it give exact quantities of the ingredients used, therefore it is open to interpretation. The notes that accompany this recipe state that it may be a type of oysters stew and after doing some research I agree with this assumption. I learned that soups and stews are made by thickening a seasoned liquid and cooking meat, vegetables, or grains in said liquid. In this recipe, egg yolk would be the thickening agent that turns the wine, vinegar, broth, and other ingredients into a stew. From the Book of Apicius and my research I also learned that the ancient Romans made numerous types of stews and soups

Daoism is a philosophical theory developed by Lao-tzu advocating a simple honest life and noninterference with the course of natural events. There are some images that come to mind when one thinks of Daoism, such as simplicity, nature, and harmony. When I think of Daoism I think of Winnie the pooh, Ying Yang, and the painting of the 3 sages. These images are the epitome of Daoism, and replicates what Daoism is all about.
